Before understanding how to craft it, let's review the main function of Dusk Ring. While regular rare rings in Path of Exile 2 can have a maximum of 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes, Dusk Ring's inherent attributes change this rule: it has 4 prefixes and 2 suffixes.

Prefixes are generally used by players to place the most important attributes for their build, usually powerful offensive attributes such as percentage damage, maximum life, or critical strike chance. Suffixes are generally auxiliary defensive attributes such as resistances and attribute points.

Dusk Ring directly adds a core offensive affix to the build, making it highly sought after by many offensive builds.

However, at the same time, losing a suffix also means a reduction in its defensive and resistance attributes. This is why it is best suited for use in the late game, when your gear is already complete and your defensive and resistance attributes are generally sufficient.

Therefore, to obtain a perfect Dusk Ring, you not only need to acquire the base material, but more importantly, you need to imbue it with the six most powerful affixes.

Base Material Acquisition

Currently, there are two main ways to obtain base materials in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients:

1. Challenge Fractured Lake

2. Marketplace Trading

This is also the fastest method. If you can't guarantee a consistent number of runs of Fractured Lake, you can trade with other players on the in-game marketplace. Clean Dusk Rings generally cost tens to hundreds of Divine Orbs, while higher-tier base items will fetch even higher prices.

Affix Crafting

After obtaining Dusk Ring base item, the next step is to craft top-tier affixes. The four prefixes should primarily focus on offensive attributes, while the two suffixes should primarily focus on support attributes.

Prefixes

First, use Orb of Annulment to remove all affixes from Dusk Ring except for the target affix. Next, use Chaos Orb to repeatedly reroll the remaining affix until you get a Tier 1 (T1) bonus damage affix, typically an attack bonus such as frost, lightning, fire, or physical damage.

Once you get this affix, you can use Divine Orbs to optimize its stats. Of course, this step is not necessary; you can do it if you're aiming for perfect stats, or skip it if you're satisfied with the initial stats.

Next, use two Exalted Orbs to randomly add two more affixes to Dusk Ring. After obtaining three affixes, use Deafening Essence of Scorn to defile Dusk Ring, preventing it from being fractured later when using Fracturing Orb. Using Fracturing Orb has approximately a 33% chance of successfully fracturing a Tier 1 affix.

After obtaining this, you will have four affixes. Use two Orbs of Annulment to remove two affixes from the ring, leaving only one fractured affix and one regular affix.

Use Chaos Orb to repeatedly reroll the regular affix until you get another Tier 1 affix. Therefore, I say that crafting a perfect Dusk Ring is very costly. At this point, you have obtained three fixed-value prefix damage affixes. For the last one, you can use Reaver Catalyst to forcibly improve the ring's quality, guiding the fourth prefix to an attack attribute affix. Remove the lowest-value affix from the prefixes and use Desecrated Currency to fill the remaining prefix slot.

Suffixes

Ideally, the last two suffixes should be item rarity and all resistances.

Use Orb of Annulment to remove unsatisfactory suffixes, control the effect with Omen of Dextral Annulment, and then consume Divine Orbs until you get the two suffixes you want. If you've already obtained a satisfactory suffix and want to reroll another, remember to use Omen of Dextral Erasure simultaneously. This allows you to reroll only the unsatisfactory suffix without affecting other existing affixes.

Where do these frogs come from, and what is their purpose?

Doedre's Undoing, a special Lineage Support Gem, summons thousands upon thousands of frogs, dealing massive explosive damage to enemies. You hardly need to do anything yourself; the constantly spawning frogs are the best weapon.

However, in PoE 2, there are usually only four frogs at most. How does this effect occur?

Core Mechanics

The core mechanic of Frogmancer is to stack curse effects, summoning many Witchtoads that automatically jump to the target enemy, creating a high-damage chaos explosion. Of course, you can simply call them frogs.

While by default, each cursed ground can only harbor four Witchtoads, you can use Blasphemy in conjunction with regular curses, or specific mechanisms (such as Stormweaver), to continuously replace and refresh old curses with new ones.

Because the system determines that the cursed ground is constantly being reset, the old frogs won't disappear, thus exceeding the limit and instantly creating an army of dozens of frogs on the screen.

One of the core components required for this is Doedre's Undoing.

Core Configuration

Doedre's Undoing

Doedre's Undoing's underlying code logic changed in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients. It transforms cursed abilities aided by it (such as Despair) into Cursed Ground. Enemies standing within its range are cursed, and the ground continuously generates Witchtoads at fixed time intervals.

These Witchtoads automatically pounce on nearby enemies, creating chaotic explosions with a radius of 1.6 meters - Dark Consequences. This is Frogmancer's primary damage source. It's Int Stacking mechanism in patch 0.4 has been changed to a system where damage is proportionally copied and amplified based on the level of the affected curse skill:

• Level 14: Base damage 95-177.
• Level 20: Base damage 217-404.
• Level 30: Base damage 826-1533.
• Level 40 (Max): Base damage 3325-6175.

At max level, the curse's damage is almost enough to instantly kill bosses in the late game.

Acquisition Method

1. Trigger an Expedition

By opening higher-tier Logbooks or triggering a Grand Expedition in Uncharted Waters, defeating the four main bosses (such as Olroth) has a very high chance of directly dropping this unique Bloodline Gem.

2. Atlas Endgame

Completing the final boss fights of the six new endgame storylines within Path of Exile 2 will grant access to this gem in their unique drop pool. Placing an Infused Unique Scarab in Atlas significantly increases the drop rate of rare monsters within the map.

3. Gambling Mechanism

Farming in specific maps to obtain Divination Cards that drop random unique and Bloodline Gems allows you to exchange them for gems or reforge them.

4. Market Trading

Next, you should aim for higher levels, which means more frogs and higher damage. Currently, there are two ways to achieve this: one is to increase the level of Doedre's Undoing, and the other is to increase the summon cap (i.e., the number of frogs).

Upgrade Gem Levels

1. Elemental Weakness

Elemental Weakness is the top choice as a curse gem to increase Frogmancer's damage level. Given the strict controls on skill level affixes on equipment and Passives in Path of Exile 2, it boasts four extremely powerful tags: Curse, Fire, Cold, and Lightning.

These equipment affixes all appear on this one gem, allowing players to forcibly boost their Frogmancer skill level to 40, directly stacking the frog's explosion damage to 6175.

2. Sunsplinter

Sunsplinter is a unique array bucketler. Its key function is to directly stack your core curse skills (such as Elemental Weakness) by 6-9 levels, simultaneously increasing all affix attributes. Therefore, it is also an essential piece of equipment for Frogmancer.

Acquisition Method

• Dropped by rare elite monsters with Unique Modifiers and Atlas map bosses.
• Orb of Chance Gambling Upgrade.
• Expedition and Grand Expedition Chests.
• Market trading, requiring approximately dozens of Chaos Orbs; for a fully upgraded version, dozens of Divine Orbs are needed.

3. Apocalypse Chant Siphoning Wand

Step 1

In Patch 0.5 of Path of Exile 2, the damage ceiling of a Summoner build often depends on a high level of attention to detail. Many players hit a damage plateau after gearing up, neglecting the numerous low-cost or even zero-cost synergies between skill gems, support gems, and passive nodes.

PoE 2's damage calculation system is complex, with significant differences in returns between different categories such as percentage-based damage increase, more damage, and increased damage taken by enemies.

Blindly stacking a single attribute often leads to diminishing returns, while proper resource allocation can yield substantial improvements at minimal cost. The following will outline a complete damage enhancement strategy from four dimensions: skill gem adjustments, aura selection, gear optimization, and Minion capture.

Base Damage Boost

Pain Offering is the most cost-effective damage source in Summoner system. This skill sacrifices a Skeletal Minion to provide a massive damage boost to other Minions in the area.

Many Path of Exile 2 players forgo this skill because of reluctance to sacrifice minions. However, choosing Skeletal Cleric, which has the lowest cost, as a sacrifice, combined with multiple minion slots, allows for high uptime without significantly affecting the total number of minions.

The dual-sacrifice approach is also severely underestimated. Enabling both Pain Offering and Bone Offering simultaneously, combined with the 50% bonus from Sacrificial Offering node, results in a substantial overall damage increase.

Damage Bonus Types

Minion damage bonuses can be additive or multiplicative. Testing shows that once Minion Critical Damage exceeds 800%, the marginal benefit of further stacking Critical Damage decreases significantly.

At this stage, percentage-based minion damage increases are more beneficial. Specifically, when the base critical damage is high, a 40% critical damage increase provides approximately 4.4% global damage, while a 40% minion damage increase provides up to 13.3% global damage.

This means that the passive tree selection for a PoE 2 Summoner should be dynamically adjusted based on gear stage. Early game priority should be given to Critical Rate and Critical Damage, while mid-to-late game priority should gradually shift towards additive attributes such as Minion Damage and Attack Speed.

In practical testing, a 12% increase in Minion Damage has proven more beneficial than a 15% increase in Critical Damage, a phenomenon particularly noticeable on endgame characters with high-quality jewels and gear.

Offensive Aura Selection

In PoE 2 Return of the Ancients aura system, Haste Aura and Extra Physical Damage Aura are the preferred choices for summoners. Attack Speed and base damage bonuses provided by these two are applicable to most Minion types and are not limited by Minion's own aura effects.

Vulnerability Methods

Making enemies take more damage is another efficient way to amplify damage. Common methods include:

• Using Vulnerability to reduce enemy physical resistance, or using Elemental Weakness against specific elemental damage types.
• If Minion primarily deals Chaos damage, Withered effect applied upon contact can cause enemies to take up to 50% additional damage.
• Shock mechanic in PoE 2 is also noteworthy. After an enemy is Shocked, their damage taken increases by 20%.

This buff can be reliably maintained if Minion possesses Lightning Damage or gains a global Shock chance through equipment. Furthermore, Mark abilities, combined with specific Scepter affixes, can nearly double the damage taken by Mark targets.

New Support Gem Usage

Her Declaration support gem added in Patch 0.5 provides a unique combined offensive and defensive effect. Consuming 30 Spirit, this gem Intimidates enemies within its aura for 4 seconds, making them take 10% more damage and deal 10% less damage.

Scepter Affix Priority

The value of Increased Damage Taken by Enemies affix on Sylvan's Effigy Stoic Sceptre directly affects actual output. A fully rolled 100% damage increase affix is equivalent to doubling global damage. When selecting PoE 2 Patch 0.5 Summoner weapon, this affix should have a higher priority than Minion level or base damage bonus.

High-Quality Minion Capture

The combination of a minion affixes is fundamental to damage output. During the transition phase, prioritize capturing minions with Critical Rate affix, which can increase Critical Rate from 25% to 100%. In the mid-game, Critical Rate needs to be paired with an additional damage or Enrage affix.

In the endgame, maximize Critical Rate using rings and jewelry, keeping only two additional damage or Enrage affixes on the minion itself. Properly capturing and developing minions is a crucial turning point in PoE 2 summoner, propelling you from millions of DPS to tens of millions.

However, Ascendancy Classes in PoE 2 clearly offer insufficient choice and freedom, and the developers haven't addressed this issue. This is a problem that must be resolved before the 1.0 release.

False Choices

Even though each class in Path of Exile 2 has more than one passive branch, the design of these branches and the characteristics of each class can lead all players to a single, limited choice.

Taking Witchhunter ascendancy class as an example, Concentration and Sorcery Ward are its two core passives, while Obsessive Rituals is a must-have starting passive.

Obsessive Rituals halve Witchhunter's armor and dodge chance. In compensation, it grants Sorcery Ward ability, providing direct damage mitigation against elemental damage.

This involves a balance: sacrificing physical damage reduction and dodge chance from armor gains protection against elemental damage.

This means physical damage will become your biggest threat. Ceremonial Ablution, as another passive branch, can fill this gap, allowing Sorcery Ward to resist not only elemental damage but also all other types of damage.

This is where the false choice begins. You can't just choose Obsessive Rituals; you either need to max out all four, or you don't need to put any points into them.

Secondly, there's an even more obvious example. Witchbane is a method to interrupt monster concentration, reducing the frequency of monsters casting Concentration by slowing down their cooldown recovery.

Theoretically, it seems useful, but in the current Path of Exile 2 Return of the Ancients, you can kill monsters much faster, making this mechanism seem useless.

This is where No Mercy comes in. It directly transforms Witchbane mechanism into a damage multiplier bonus, making it much more useful. Therefore, these two passive branches are essentially linked; you can't just choose one.

Independent Choice

Of course, not all choices are illusory. There's one example that truly represents a choice for the player: Pitiless Killer and Judge Jury and Executioner. Pitiless Killer adds an execute effect to all your attacks, allowing you to instantly kill monsters when their health falls below a certain threshold.

Judge Jury and Executioner provides a special hit mechanic: when attacking a target at full health, it removes 5%-30% of their current health.

These two passive branches clearly have a synergistic effect, utilizing Judge Jury and Executioner to reduce monster health, quickly approaching the threshold for a kill. Furthermore, even used separately, they are both powerful branches in their respective attack domains, representing two very independent mechanics.

Design Space Limitations

Besides certain ascendancy passive branch designs leading to false choices for players, they may also limit the future design space of PoE 2 itself. Currently, there are two most obvious examples in the game.

1. Titan

Titan's Hulk Form increases minor passive skills on Passive Tree by 50%, but it also limits GGG's design of Passive Tree content for all classes. This is because Hulk Form's buff is too powerful.

For example, it could reduce the cooldown time of classes that need to frequently cast skills by half, even approaching zero cooldown in the late game; or it could allow players aiming for high damage to instantly kill bosses after obtaining this buff.

These situations have forced developers to redesign basic nodes, adjust the base values of the buffs, and even rework mechanics altogether. A single ascendancy node can impact the design space for the entire class balance.

2. Unfurled Finger

Unfurled Finger is a special node for Ritualists. The same issues not only arise in passive node design but also affect the choice of Path of Exile 2 Items.

The benefits of Unfurled Finger for Ritualists far exceed those for other classes. It provides an extra ring slot. An extra key piece of item not only directly and significantly boosts your stats but also has an exponential impact on Ritualist stat stacking.

Furthermore, Patch 0.5.4 further amplified the emergence of extreme builds in the game. This node design is not an isolated case; balance design must be redesigned and recalculated around the bonus from extra equipment slots.

Unless players consume significantly more PoE 2 Currency to upgrade and craft items, ordinary classes will never catch up to the stat caps of classes with more equipment slots.

Besides the additional bonuses from passive branches, some Ascendancy classes inherently cause design conflicts. For example, Lich's Eternal Life allows its life value to remain unchanged while an energy shield is active.

This very existence prevents other classes from acquiring a large number of energy-penetrating shield-type affixes. For Lich, this directly provides an additional life protection mechanism, but also makes them directly bound to it.

Changes and Problems

Regardless, while Ascendancy class design in Path of Exile 2 still has many areas for improvement, GGG has shown a clear trend in its Ascendancy design from the initial Patch 0.5.0 to the current Patch 0.5.4.

From simple numerical bonuses and single effect enhancements to the current class-specific passive trees, interactive growth systems, and broader expansion of behavioral logic, all demonstrate that PoE2 Return of the Ancients is gradually improving.

The main problems currently existing can be categorized as follows:

1. Increased Design Complexity

The new Ascendancy class system is significantly broader, offering more gameplay space. This means higher complexity, with various branching mechanisms intricately intertwined and mutually restrictive.

2. Outdated Ascendancy Design

Some early Ascendancy class designs still relied on single-node strength logic, leading to the development of some extreme builds.

3. Node Binding
