In ARC Raiders' Trials challenges, players often face powerful enemies like Queen or Matriarch. With the third Expedition now live, the pressure to maximize weekly trial scores has never been higher, making the choice between Wolfpack and Deadline even more critical.
Wolfpacks emphasize safe, long-range throws, while Deadlines rely on precise, targeted strikes. These two approaches differ significantly in resource requirements, risk levels, and final score performance.
The following analysis will examine cost-effectiveness, practical score, and risk control, providing objective recommendations based on the current version of ARC Raiders.
Cost-Effectiveness
In ARC Raiders, the viability of any tactic depends primarily on the amount of resources a player can carry or acquire. Wolfpacks and Deadlines present drastically different requirements.
The core of Wolfpacks tactic is to throw many Wolfpacks to inflict cumulative damage on Queen or Matriarch from a safe distance. Theoretical calculations show that at least 40 Wolfpacks are needed to achieve the maximum kill count and the highest score.
This number far exceeds the single-player carrying limit, meaning players must coordinate with squad members, with multiple players throwing simultaneously to achieve the desired effect.
When operating solo, the number of Wolfpacks that can be carried is extremely limited. Even with a good start, opportunities can easily be missed because other players intervening first.
In contrast, Deadlines tactic only requires 6 Deadlines to pose a lethal threat to Queen or Matriarch - provided they are precisely attached to the enemy's core. This number requirement is far lower than Wolfpack's, making it easy for a single player to carry and execute independently.
The overwhelming advantage in resource costs makes Deadlines the preferred choice for solo players and small teams. In ARC Raiders' economy, the difficulty and cost of acquiring 6 Deadlines are far lower than 45 Wolfpacks, resulting in a significant difference in resource efficiency.
In-Game Scores
In-game data best reflects the true value of the two tactics. By observing the kill process and final score of the same target under different tactics, a clear judgment of superiority or inferiority can be made.
The biggest advantage of Wolfpacks is their safety - players can throw them repeatedly from a distance with no need to get close to the enemy's melee range. However, this advantage comes with a significant drawback: slower damage output.
When facing Queen, without a perfect spawn point and a sufficient number of Wolfpacks, they are easily stolen and killed by other teams or lone wolves.
Even if you arrive on the battlefield early, Wolfpack's explosion takes time to accumulate damage. If someone uses other methods to quickly reduce the target's health, the points earned by Wolfpack user will be significantly reduced.
Moreover, this tactic is almost ineffective against Matriarchs. Matriarchs continuously generate many Arcs and have their own shields. The scattered damage of Wolfpacks is difficult to penetrate the shields and accurately hit the core, further reducing scoring efficiency.
Deadlines, on the other hand, show a completely different performance curve. Against the same target, only 4 to 6 Deadlines can cause damage efficiency dozens of times greater than Wolfpacks.
More importantly, Deadlines have extremely strong core suppression capabilities against Matriarchs. Even if the enemy possesses shields and the ability to summon Arcs, as long as the initial wave of Arcs' interference is broken and Deadlines are applied to the core, a significant amount of their health can be quickly reduced, triggering a paralyzed state.
Even with unexpected interference, a successful core strike still yields a significantly higher minimum score than Wolfpacks.
Risk Control
The two tactics have drastically different risk profiles.
While Wolfpacks avoid direct confrontation and appear to have tiny risk, in the multiplayer environment of ARC Raiders matches, low risk often comes with low control.
Wolfpacks cannot quickly end the fight; the prolonged kill window gives other players the opportunity to intervene - they may use more efficient Arc Raiders Items to steal the lion's share of the damage.
Furthermore, against Matriarchs, Wolfpacks cannot handle shields and periodically spawning Arcs, instead forcing players into a passive retreat situation. Therefore, the so-called safety only holds true in idealized solo or squad-based scenarios.
The risks of Deadlines are obvious: players must find a core attachment point within enemy melee range, facing attacks from multiple Arcs along the way, and exhaustion or mis-positioning can lead to immediate death.
With the third Expedition now underway, the meta is shifting toward faster, more resource efficient clears. Many players in Expedition have already abandoned Wolfpacks for Deadlines due to tighter spawn windows and increased player density.
However, most of these risks can be mitigated through pre-planning: lure the first wave of Arcs away from the target area, use Snap Hook and Zipline to quickly approach the core, and attach to Deadline when enemies are in a vulnerable state, such as when they unleash missiles.
When executed correctly, Deadlines actually offer a higher margin for error than expected - even in case of an unexpected failure, the cost is far less than the economic cost of losing 45 Wolfpacks.
In conclusion, Wolfpacks are safer but have a lower score ceiling and are more wasteful of resources; Deadlines are riskier but offer superior resource efficiency and scoring potential. In the trials of ARC Raiders, choosing the latter allows for a higher score at a lower cost.
