As a shooting-based game, ARC Raiders focuses not only on gameplay and story but also on weapon design. The game's arsenal includes a variety of shotguns and submachine guns, as well as heavy assault rifles and armor-piercing machine guns specifically designed for ARC units.
Each major update adjusts the weapon system, from system attributes to specific weapon performance. For example, the recent patch 1.29.0 adjusted weapon durability and 8 known weapons, almost all of which were buffs.
One of them, Bettina, has been adjusted twice in just one month. Many players were shocked by this discovery and questioned whether Bettina is now the darling of ARC Raiders.
So what is the truth? How powerful is the updated Bettina? Let's find out together.
Two Updates
Bettina, a heavy assault rifle, initially jokingly referred to by players as a firewood stick with poor durability, has gradually transformed into an excellent PvE weapon. The developers have primarily given it two significant and iconic core enhancement updates.
1. Riven Tides 1.26.0
In this update, the new Bettina arrived along with a new map. It's safe to say that this update was the most crucial turning point for Bettina, as the developers shifted its role from a regular assault rifle to a killer of heavily armored targets specific to ARC.
Specific updates and adjustments mainly focused on increased damage, minor adjustments to rate of fire, improved accuracy, and increased armor penetration.
The armor penetration increase, in particular, was a direct 33% increase. This means Bettina now possesses extremely strong armor-piercing properties, making it more cost-effective than high-value weapons specifically designed for armor penetration.
Furthermore, the stacking limit of its Heavy Ammo per slot has been increased from 40 to 60, significantly addressing Bettina's weakness of not being able to replenish ammo quickly enough during a match.
However, this ARC Raiders update includes an adjustment that has drawn considerable criticism from players: the durability loss of both common and rare weapons during firing has been significantly increased. This has led to numerous complaints that maintaining these rare weapons is even more expensive than acquiring a new common weapon.
2. Patch 1.29.0
This update seems more like an improvement on 1.26.0, particularly addressing player dissatisfaction with the weapon durability adjustments. The developers have reverted the changes, fixing and slowing down the degradation of rare weapons.
The adjusted Bettina can now engage in more prolonged and intense firefights during an expedition, preventing it from becoming unusable as quickly as before.
Furthermore, the 1.29.0 update restores Bettina's previously reduced rate of fire to 250, and refactors Extended Barrel attachment, increasing bullet velocity by 30% and extending damage falloff distance by 15%. A fully equipped Bettina now possesses the tactical capability to act as a DMR at mid-to-long range.
These two updates not only enhance Bettina's performance but also provide special performance bonuses when used with suitable attachments. These adjustments have completely lifted Bettina from its early awkward position, successfully making it one of the top choices for attacking medium to large ARC mechs.
So, how can the updated Bettina be used to its fullest potential?
True Advantages
The updated Riven Tides' 33% damage increase against ARC armor gives Bettina a clear battlefield role: an armor killer specifically designed to counter heavily mechanized enemies.
Large ARC units like Rocketeer, Shredder, and Bombardier have armor that's like paper when facing Bettina. Against Rocketeer, sustained fire provides suppression and slowing effects, instantly disrupting the enemy's offensive rhythm.
The crafting advantages of this powerful weapon are also quite obvious. ARC Raiders Bettina Blueprint required has an extremely high drop rate in Dam Research Admin Building. Some community players have even reported that entering this area in Night Raid mode can yield two to three blueprints at once.
Furthermore, after the 1.29.0 patch, Bettina's durability and usability are a major advantage. In the frequent PvE environment, a weapon that can sustain continuous combat is far more important than a glass cannon that requires frequent repairs, which is another key reason Bettina has become so popular after the buff.
Currently, Bettina's only significant weaknesses are its rate of fire and spread. Fortunately, ARC Raiders Misc can perfectly address these shortcomings: Kinetic Converter.
Top-Tier Pairing
ARC Raiders Kinetic Converter is a stock-mounted plugin that increases rate of fire by 15% and reduces vertical recoil.
Veteran players know that balancing rate of fire and spread is always the most difficult skill to master in gunsmithing. Now, after two buffs, this gun, when paired with Kinetic Converter, boasts an astonishing rate of fire, almost transforming into a true laser gun.
Comparison or No Comparison
So, is it really necessary to equip Kinetic Converter? What's the difference? A comparison with and without the converter might give you a clearer understanding.
Bettina without Kinetic Converter has both advantages and disadvantages.
On the positive side, when engaging Bastion, Rocketeer, or Hornet at mid-to-long range, you can easily use semi-automatic bursts or short bursts to accurately hit their blue weak points or armor plates repeatedly. Ammo utilization is extremely high, and recoil control is effortless.
On the negative side, when facing enemy players using high-rate-of-fire SMGs like ARC Raiders Bobcat or Stitcher, its kill time is longer, making it easy to be suppressed by the opponent's rate of fire during scoped-in firefights.
The effects of equipping Kinetic Converter are also twofold.
On the positive side, it perfectly addresses Bettina's weakness in PvP burst damage. The 15% increase in rate of fire, combined with the high single-shot damage and armor penetration of heavy ammo, allows it to melt a full-health, fully armored enemy Raider in about half a magazine.
Furthermore, with the enhanced Extended Barrel in Patch 1.29.0, you can even instantly take down enemies during mid-range stealth ambushes, leaving them no time to reposition or raise their shields.
On the negative side, because of the additional 20% recoil, bullets are prone to missing their targets at mid-to-long range (over 30 meters) in fully automatic fire because of severe muzzle shake.
If recoil control is lacking, not only will Heavy Ammo be consumed extremely quickly, but Bettina's previously prized advantage of accurate armor-piercing will be diminished.
Therefore, it's clear that Kinetic Converter is a double-edged sword; its effectiveness depends entirely on how you use it.
Addressing Weaknesses
The additional recoil mentioned above can actually be completely eliminated using other attachments.
For example, ARC Raiders Compensator III essentially negates the extra recoil from Kinetic Converter and makes the bullet trajectory closer to a straight line, thus completely addressing Bettina's weaknesses and making it almost a perfect top-tier armor-piercing weapon.
In summary, if you want to unleash the full potential of your Bettina, equip it with Kinetic Converter and Compensator III. These changes will turn your Bettina into an elite weapon in ARC Raiders almost instantly.
With two updates within a month, steadily progressing from usable to powerful, and then to nearly becoming a benchmark weapon in PvE environment, Bettina's transformation is undoubtedly a hallmark of ARC Raiders' recent balancing strategy.
Now is indeed the best time to use Bettina. Players who don't yet own it shouldn't hesitate any longer, as no one knows what Embark's next update will bring; perhaps they will nerf it for the sake of so-called balance?
