Diablo 2 Resurrected Patch 3.4 is an interesting update that introduces almost no nerfs. Instead, it improves several previously overlooked Unique items, giving players more options for endgame builds.
Eternity, in particular, receives a substantial upgrade, opening up more endgame possibilities for Amazon players. However, this does not automatically make it a BiS item. With D2R Ladder Season 16 set to begin on November 13 at 5:00 PM PST, let's take an early look at which classes might stand out.
Patch 3.4 Changes Overview
Since D2R Patch 3.4 primarily buffs off-meta equipment and does not weaken any mainstream builds, its overall impact on class balance is relatively limited.
The strongest builds from Diablo 2 Resurrected Season 15 will retain their positions, which has led some players to complain that this patch does little to address the game's balance issues.
Caster classes have clear advantages when it comes to leveling, mobility, and farming. Meanwhile, physical melee classes generally need better weapons to achieve comparable efficiency.
This patch mainly expands the options available to melee classes during the leveling process. By improving items such as The Atlantean, The Tannr Gorerod, and The Grim Reaper, it gives melee characters more alternatives during the early and midgame.
Tier S
Sorceress
Sorceress remains a dominant class, as always. She excels at leveling, farming, and endgame content.
Although this patch does not provide any direct buffs to the Sorceress, other classes still struggle to surpass her.
While Sorceress cannot withstand much incoming damage, unlocking Teleport at level 18 gives her exceptional mobility and makes her surprisingly difficult to kill. The resulting efficiency when navigating maps is something other classes simply cannot match.
Skills such as Blizzard and Frozen Orb require relatively little equipment investment during the early game while providing excellent area damage and fast clearing speeds. This allows Sorceress to outperform most other classes in the early farming stages.
Paladin
Fist of the Heavens Paladin is extremely strong during leveling, while Blessed Hammer Paladin and Smite Paladin remain top-tier endgame options.
Hammerdin benefits from one of the most reliable damage types in the game: Magic Damage. Very few monsters can effectively resist it. Combined with Concentration Aura, this gives the build consistent performance against both large groups of enemies and bosses.
Veil of Steel buff in D2R Patch 3.4 introduces another helmet option for certain setups, but Paladin's core strength does not depend on this item. Although Paladin cannot level as quickly as Sorceress, it becomes one of the most reliable all-round characters once fully developed.
Warlock
Like Sorceress, Warlock is largely unaffected by this patch. Echoing Strike and Fire Warlock builds remain dominant in the endgame.
However, Warlock is somewhat less efficient during the early stages of a new season. Although several buffed items provide some benefits, it is still difficult for other builds to overcome the mobility advantage granted by Teleport.
Tier A
Amazon
Amazon is already a top-tier farming class, particularly in densely populated areas such as Cow Level, where she can clear enemies extremely efficiently. She is also one of the biggest beneficiaries of this patch.
The most significant change involves Eternity. It can now be crafted in ranged weapons, and its enhanced damage has been increased to 300–390%, alongside a newly added 30% Increased Attack Speed modifier.
Following its rework, Eternity has become one of the best bow options available to Amazon, providing Physical Bow Amazon builds with another viable weapon choice.
However, keep in mind that Eternity requires runes such as Ber, Mal, Ber, Ist, and Sur, making it far from an ordinary leveling weapon. You can buy D2R runes to craft Eternity for your Amazon, but this weapon does not fundamentally transform the class's damage potential.
Necromancer
Pure Summon Necromancer is one of the most comfortable leveling choices in the game. An army of skeletons can safely handle most content, although its clearing speed is relatively slow.
Necromancer's endgame options remain largely limited to the traditional builds. Poison Nova is better suited to players seeking efficient farming, while Summon Necromancer is ideal for those who prioritize safety and consistency. Most other builds perform considerably worse.
Tier B
Barbarian
Barbarian is another beneficiary of Patch 3.4. Demonhorn's Edge, Ethereal Edge, Executioner's Justice, and Eternity all provide additional weapon options.
In particular, Whirlwind and Berserk builds may now have good reasons to reconsider some weapons that were previously overlooked.
However, Barbarian's main weakness remains its heavy equipment dependence during leveling. Its early-game efficiency is generally lower than that of Sorceress.
Barbarian's endgame performance is relatively average. Nevertheless, alongside Berserk Barbarian, Gold Find Barbarian provides another useful option for farming D2R items, giving the class a slight advantage over the two classes ranked below it.
Assassin
Assassin's main advantage is her ability to deploy traps from a relatively safe distance without having to remain close to enemies like traditional melee classes.
Her main weakness becomes apparent in Hell difficulty, where Lightning Immune monsters can cause problems. Dealing with them requires alternative damage sources, mercenaries, or equipment that can break immunity.
Mosaic Phoenix Strike Assassin is extremely powerful. However, Mosaic runeword was disabled after Season 13 and remains unavailable in Season 16.
Tier C
Druid
Druid is generally a weaker class, particularly when it comes to endgame PvE farming efficiency. This does not mean the class is unplayable, but rather that it lacks a defining strength capable of competing with the top-tier classes.
Fire Druid can perform reasonably well in the endgame with a fully optimized setup. However, Druid's summoning system falls behind Necromancer, its elemental damage builds cannot compete with Sorceress, Paladin, and Warlock, and its shapeshifting melee builds lack efficient area-clearing capabilities. Furthermore, without Teleport, its mobility and overall farming efficiency are also limited.
Overall, Diablo 2 Resurrected Patch 3.4 is a decent update. Although it does not fundamentally change the class balance hierarchy, it gives players an opportunity to experiment with several newly improved items during their Season 16 progression.
