In Diablo 4's Lord of Hatred expansion & Season 13, Horadric Cube was introduced as a brand-new core crafting system. This mechanism not only greatly enriched the depth of equipment crafting but also allowed players to shift from passively relying on random drops to actively crafting their ideal gear.
Whether you're a hardcore player striving for perfect Affixes or a casual Wanderer looking to easily boost your combat power, mastering Horadric Cube will be key to your success in Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred & Season 13.
The following will provide a detailed breakdown of Cube's various functions and practical applications.
Basic Affix Operations
Horadric Cube provides players with precise control over their equipment Affixes, which is the foundation for crafting Ancestral Items. All operations require specific materials, including Horadric Resin, Primordial Dust, and various Tuning Prisms.
Add Affix
Any equipment placed in Cube can gain new Affixes through Add function. Each piece of equipment can have a maximum of four Affixes. This is precisely why some Legendary gear only has three base Affixes; the developers expect players to use Cube to acquire a fourth.
To further target specific Affixes, Tuning Prisms can be used: for example, using Aggressive Tuning Prism increases the probability of acquiring an attack Affix, while using Adept's Tuning Prism precisely targets Skill Rank or Core Stat Affixes.
With this mechanism, a previously unobtainable Greater Common Item can be gradually imbued with four ideal Affixes, becoming a Rare Ancestral Item.
Affix Reroll
Cube offers two reroll options. Chaotic Reroll randomly selects an Affix from the gear and replaces it with another category. When used in conjunction with Tuning Prism, you can first specify the category of Affix to be replaced, and then randomly replace it with something else.
Focused Reroll offers greater control: it replaces the selected Affix with another Affix from the same category, and the category selection can also be guided using Tuning Prism. These two methods provide flexible strategies for fine-tuning Diablo 4 Items.
Remove Affix
When redundant or inefficient Affixes exist on equipment, Remove function can strip them away. By default, the removal target is randomly selected, but Tuning Prism allows precise specification of Affix to be removed. This clears the way for adding ideal Affixes later.
Advanced Modification
After adjusting basic Affixes, Horadric Cube also provides powerful means to change the nature of equipment, especially suitable for scenarios in the later stages of Season where players pursue ultimate attributes.
Transfiguration
Transfiguration is considered the final step in the entire crafting process. When players have already optimized equipment to its limits through other means, they can try adding a random bonus effect.
However, transfiguration also carries risks - it may randomly remove or replace existing affixes, and most likely render Diablo 4 Items unmodifiable. In rare cases, with enough luck, the same item can be transfigured multiple times; using Tuning Prism can slightly increase this probability.
Unique Item Reroll
For Greater Unique Items, Unique Power Reroll in Cube can re-randomize the percentage value of their effect. If you already have a Unique Item with a satisfactory affix but a low-value effect, this is a low-cost way to improve it.
Even more impressive is Upgrade to Unique option: with just one Greater Common Item, combined with Enhanced Primordial Dust and Raw Primordial Dust, it can be directly converted into a Unique Item with a Greater Affix.
Upgrade to Legendary
Upgrade to Legendary requires using Legendary Items as materials to randomly convert them into a Legendary item. The strategic significance of this feature lies in helping players fill gaps in key aspects. This method can also be used to find Greater versions of Aspects, simply by using Greater Legendary Items as a base.
Set Charms and Runecrafting
In Diablo 4 Season 13, Set bonuses provided by Set Charms are a crucial pillar of character strength, and Horadric Cube offers an efficient way to acquire and optimize them.
Reroll and Transmutation
Reroll Set Charms: Regenerates any Set Charms into another Charm within the same Set. When you have extra Charms from the same Set, you can use this feature to try to complete missing pieces, quickly activating Set bonus.
3 to 1 Transmutation: Input three Charms of the same Rarity to obtain a random new Charm. For Set Charms, three Charms from any Set can be transformed into a random new Charm from any Set. This means that even if you only have duplicate Set Charms, you can continue to transform them until you have the required five pieces.
Crafting Unique Charms: Transmutation a Unique Item into a Charm, allowing its effect to take effect without equipping it. The cost is three any Unique Charms, the target Unique item itself, and an Enhanced Primordial Dust. This recipe is expensive, but allows players to precisely obtain key Unique effects.
Runes Crafting and Targeted Crafting
Runes can also be upgraded using Cubes in Season. Amalgamation options support: five Magic Runes to craft one Rare Rune, and five Rare Runes to craft one Legendary Rune.
Additionally, Runecrafting provides a fixed recipe for each Legendary Rune: it requires a specific Magic Rune as the core, plus five Rare Runes and five other Legendary Runes. While costly, this is the only way to bypass random drops and directly obtain the required Legendary Rune.
Other Uses
Amalgamation also allows players to exchange five Boss-exclusive loot for a random Unique Item from that Boss's loot pool. This is a stable farming method for specific boss Unique gear.
Material Acquisition
All materials required for Horadric Cube operations - including various Primordial Dust, Tuning Prisms, and Horadric Resin - are primarily obtained from the following sources:
Disenchanting: Disenchanting Sigils and Charms yields Horadric Resin.
Loot Sources: Elite monster drops, War Plans Cube loot, and Tree of Whispers chests. Tree of Whispers chests offer a Material Gathering option for targeted Cube material acquisition.
Dungeon Kurast Undercity: Using Tribute of Ingenuity grants a significant amount of additional Horadric Cube materials upon completing a Dungeon. Combining this with the rightmost final node in Dungeon Skill Tree further amplifies the gains.
Difficulty Impact: The drop rate of Rare materials is significantly increased in higher difficulty Torments.
In Diablo 4 Season 13 & Lord of Hatred, Horadric Cube transformed gear crafting from a passive gamble to an active process. From base gear to Legendary Aspects, from Set Charms to Runes crafting, players simply invest resources step-by-step to significantly shorten endgame cycles.
Once you master all these recipes, the core gameplay revolves around a virtuous cycle: farming materials - using Cube for targeted conversion - perfecting gear for multiple characters.
