Diablo 4 Season 14 Mythic Gear Guide: How the New Mythic Unique System Works?

Diablo 4 Season 14 transforms Mythic Uniques into a new item quality that can apply to over 100 items through drops and crafting. While the rework promotes build diversity, increased RNG and iconic item nerfs have divided the community.

Jun 02, 2026 Author: EZG

The official announcement recently revealed a complete overhaul of Mythic Unique item system in Diablo 4 Season 14, launching on June 30, 2026. These changes will be tested in Public Test Realm from June 2nd to 9th, fundamentally redefining how rare items work in the game and sparking heated discussions within the player community.

This article will delve into the changes to Mythic Unique item system in Diablo 4 Season 14.Diablo 4 Season 14 Mythic Gear Guide: How the New Mythic Unique System Works?

Core Changes

The most significant change to Mythic Unique item system is that Mythic is no longer a separate rarity level. It has now become a modifiable item quality, applicable to almost all unique items in Diablo 4: Season of Pandemonium.

Previously, only about a dozen specific named items could drop as Mythics. In Season 14, all Ancestral Legendary gear has a chance to drop as Mythic, dramatically increasing the number of Mythic gear items from approximately 12 to over 100.

When a legendary gear drops as Mythic or is later upgraded to Mythic, it gains two fixed bonuses. First, all affixes will be randomly generated at their highest values. Second, the gear's unique strength will be increased by 30%. This makes any Mythic version of a legendary item significantly more powerful than its regular Ancestral version.

However, this power comes with a significant drawback: random attributes. While older Mythic Uniques had fixed and predictable affixes, allowing players to confidently build gear around them, Mythic Uniques have largely random attributes and affixes, much like the regular Uniques introduced in Lord of Hatred expansion.

This means that even if a Mythic Unique drops, it could be virtually worthless if its attributes are undesirable.

Acquisition Methods

The developers are adding more acquisition methods to make Mythic gear more easily obtainable in Diablo 4 Season 14: Season of Pandemonium, while preserving its rarity and sense of accomplishment. Currently, there are several methods:

  • The first method is through natural drops. Any Ancestral Unique that would normally drop in Seasonal or Eternal Realms has a very small chance of dropping as Mythic.
  • The second method is crafting. Players can use Horadric Cubes, consuming a new seasonal currency called Pandemonium Fragments, to upgrade any common Legendary item to Mythic. Players can obtain Pandemonium Fragments through Seasonal Reputation Board and Resplendent Caches.
  • The third method is challenging the new Seasonal Lair Boss, Corrupted Soul Reaper, which has a higher drop rate than other monsters.
  • The fourth method is through Seasonal Rank rewards, which guarantee one class-specific Mythic Unique.

It's important to note that players can only equip one crafted Mythic item at a time. Naturally dropped Mythic items are not subject to this restriction.

What Happens to Existing Mythics?

Existing Mythics, such as Harlequin Crest, Grandfather, Heir of Perdition, and Ring of Starless Skies, will be reclassified as Iconic Mythic Uniques, and they have also undergone significant adjustments in this rework.

Most gear affixes have been significantly changed from fixed to random, meaning each piece of gear will retain only one fixed affix. Furthermore, some iconic items have been directly nerfed to reduce their prevalence in almost all late-game builds.

For example, the damage bonus of Heir of Perdition has been drastically reduced from 80% to 15%, retaining only the movement speed affix. Harlequin Crest now provides a level 6 bonus to all skills, instead of the previously stronger bonus. These changes aim to break the current season's dominance of a few items that are almost essential for all high-end builds, encouraging players to make more diverse and creative gear choices in Diablo 4 Season 14: Season of Pandemonium.Buy Diablo 4 Items from EZG.com to Craft Mythic Uniques

Community Opinions

These changes have sparked heated debate within Diablo 4 community, with players deeply divided, primarily focusing on the following aspects:

Criticism

  • RNG Problem: Many players are dissatisfied with the added layer of randomness to the game, arguing that Uniques, especially Mythics, need a certain level of stability. One player stated, "I was already betting on whether they would drop, and now I have to bet on whether they'll be usable when they do. It's a disaster."
  • Value Dilution Argument: Many players prefer the excitement of seeing purple gear drop to the current uncertainty. Players now need to consider whether the acquired gear's stats meet their requirements and whether it's even useful. Critics believe this fundamentally undermines the illusion of obtaining Mythic Uniques.
  • Class Balance: The changes to Mythic gear, coupled with significant nerfs to class skills, have further enraged players. The popular Whirlwind Barbarian build has been particularly hard hit, leading many players to claim that Barbarians are being destroyed, not just adjusted.

Support

However, not everyone opposes these changes. Some players believe the old Mythic system had significant flaws, and this reform aims to address them. In the old system, approximately 70% of Mythic Uniques were considered junk, while the remaining few items were almost essential for every endgame build. This created a stagnant game environment and severely limited build diversity.

Supporters also point out that the ability to reset Uniques using Horadric Cube gives players greater control over their gear. While finding a perfect Mythic item might be harder, crafting a usable Mythic item becomes much easier.
