Although Diablo 4 Season 14 PTR and Mother's Blessing Event concluded a few days ago, players uncovered a wealth of content worthy of in-depth discussion during the testing phase. From hidden bugs in the equipment mechanics to dramatic fluctuations in class strength, the community's heated debate has never subsided.
Currently, the new season is expected to officially launch on June 30th, and before then, no new limited-time events have been launched in the game, resulting in a brief period of calm. However, what's truly unsettling is the continued activity of players on forums and social media.
Based on current feedback, the most controversial issues focus on several serious bugs exposed in Season 14 PTR and the recalibration of the overall game difficulty and character strength. This article will explore these adjustments that could determine the direction of Season 14.

Low-tier Gem Crafting Reopens
The good news is that Low-tier gem crafting, which was unavailable in PTR, will be reopened when Season 14 officially launches! Of course, it wasn't completely unusable before the fix. Some players discovered that the problem seemed to only exist in the crafting interface; gems already socketed into equipment worked normally.
Therefore, players suggested in the community that they could use Transfiguration to randomly obtain the desired low-level gems for reuse. Currently, this only affects low-level players in the early and mid-game stages, so fixing it in Season 14 is essential.
Gem Fragments Rewards Are Too Few
The above problems only apply to low-level gems, but the creation of high-level gems also presents its own challenges. Players who experienced Diablo 4 Season 14 PTR reported a severe imbalance between the availability of high-level gems and Gem Fragments.
For example, a single Legendary Horadric Gem requires a whopping 25 million Gem Fragments to craft, while current regular events only award a few hundred Fragments. Even through high-risk gameplay like Helltide and challenging dungeons, the rewards are far from sufficient to support this astronomical consumption.
Worse still, Gem Salvaging system contains a serious bug. The expected return of 1 million Gem Fragments only yields 100,000 (a mere 10%), further amplifying player frustration.
The community believes that, aside from a few exploitable loopholes, it's virtually impossible for ordinary players to consistently obtain large quantities of Gem Fragments without resorting to unethical methods. This makes gem upgrades an ultimate challenge, even more difficult than achieving full gear completion.
Although Blizzard has acknowledged the issue as significant and worthy of attention through their community manager, Season 14 patch notes haven't yet revealed any direct solutions to reduce crafting costs or optimize Gem Fragment drops.
Players are urging Blizzard to re-evaluate this economic cycle. While new features like Pandemonium Ruptures might indirectly improve resource acquisition, the inherent contradiction between Gem Fragment scarcity and high cost remains a key obstacle affecting the experience for ordinary players.
Unique Items Bug Fixes
Besides the crafting inconsistencies, while Diablo 4 Season of Pandemonium introduced a new equipment upgrade system, traditional Mythic Uniques are now defined as an attachable equipment attribute.
This means that any Unique Item can now potentially be imbued with Mythic quality upon drop or crafting through Pandemonium Fragments.
Wendigo Brand
However, many Diablo 4 Items still have inherent problems, such as Wendigo Brand. Players discovered a fatal flaw during Season 14 PTR.
Wendigo Brand's original effect was to increase damage by 2% and maximum health by 1% if the player achieved 15 kills within a certain time, stacking up to 50 times. However, a bug would trigger when the buff began to wear off.
Players reported on Reddit that their health did not decrease as expected with the buff's cooldown; instead, they would suffer a series of large percentage-based true damage reductions. Some players have even described their health bar instantly halving, then plummeting until they are near death, dying suddenly without any combat involvement.
Faced with this bug, most players are pessimistic, as Season 14's overall adjustments lean towards reducing damage and increasing the value of survival-oriented builds. Therefore, a bugged item that provides massive health growth but harbors hidden dangers carries risks far outweighing any benefits.
However, Season 14 patch currently lacks any information on fixing similar bugged items, and players hope the developers will take this seriously.
Affix Reset Bug Fix
Before the item bug was fixed, an affix bug was discovered. This bug is significantly more interesting and controversial. Some players found that when using Horadric Cube to perform a Chaotic Reroll on Mythic Uniques, there's a chance the item will directly gain a fifth affix.
The player community has reacted differently. Some believe this represents the future evolution of Diablo 4 Items system, while others point out it's a serious bug that could cause the fifth affix slot to be blank or prevent the acquisition of crafting bonuses.
Since the issue has been explicitly submitted to the bug report section, it is expected to be fixed or clearly defined before the official release of Season of Pandemonium.
Class Balance
As mentioned when discussing equipment fixes, Diablo 4 Season 14's overall approach is a season of reduced speed, damage reduction, and a re-emphasis on character builds. The class most affected is Sorcerer, which relies heavily on damage output, while melee classes will see a significant rise in status.
Sorcerer
Sorcerer's previous mechanic of relying on Fractured Winterglass to generate an infinite summon loop and gain high damage has been fixed. The damage increase per activated summon has been halved from 3-6% to 2-3%.
Since this damage calculation is multiplicative, this change directly halves Sorcerer's theoretical damage cap, completely shaking the foundation of the entire build.
Melee Classes
Conversely, Season 14 PTR doubled the base damage of Paladin's Shield Charge (90% → 180%). Rogue's Twisting Blades and Combo abilities also received significant damage bonuses. It's foreseeable that in the new season, melee classes will surpass mages in their potential for pushing higher difficulty levels, becoming the new popular choice.
Difficulty Balance
Furthermore, player discussions about game difficulty balance have continued. With the damage reductions for many classes in Diablo 4 Season 14 PTR, players have expressed anxiety about the difficulty curve at Season 14's launch.
However, its endgame gameplay seems to indicate a soft cap after level 150, where monster strength no longer increases linearly.
This suggests that level 150 is the official guaranteed win limit. The developers want players to experience a complete transition from risky wins to extreme speed runs, rather than directly crushing the highest difficulty.
Therefore, the goal for the new season should be to build around Tier 120-150 content, prioritizing smooth gameplay rather than simply exponential damage increases. This also reflects Season of Pandemonium's emphasis on build synergy over pure damage.
In short, Diablo 4 Season 14 is destined to be an extraordinary season. Besides adjustments to the gear system and class balance, many other changes indicate that this will be a controversial but also more diverse and demanding era, requiring greater player skill and understanding of build combinations.
