Spiritborn

Spiritborn sits at the top of S Tier. During leveling, Stinger or Rock Splitter Thorns can be used. Both offer fast leveling, good mobility, strong survivability, and sustained combat performance without relying on specific Diablo 4 items.

Once entering Season of Hell's Legacy Endgame, Spiritborn's advantages become even more obvious. For speed farming, Counter Swarm uses swarm effects to deal continuous AoE damage and is effective for quickly clearing large groups of enemies. Rake provides continuous close-range damage and is another strong option.

For D4 boss fights, builds such as Evade, Touch of Death, Thrash, Crushing Hand, Quill Volley, and Stinger can be considered. Evade focuses on dealing damage while moving, Touch of Death focuses on spreading poison, while Crushing Hand emphasizes powerful gorilla melee attacks. All of them can handle bosses effectively.

Rogue

Rogue enters S Tier mainly because of its strong selection of builds. For speed farming, Death Trap and Dash are both highly efficient, allowing Rogue to move quickly through enemy groups while maintaining damage output.

In Diablo 4 S15, Bow Rogue has more advantages in boss fights and The Pit pushing, especially Poison Rain of Arrows and Cold Rain of Arrows, which can deliver extremely high damage in endgame.

If you want to reduce the number of build swaps, Dance of Knives is a more balanced option. Although it may not be Rogue's strongest choice for maximum speed or single-target burst, it can handle both clearing and damage output.

For Diablo 4 leveling, Dancing Ice or Barrage Rogue can be considered, using Freeze, crowd control, and AoE attacks to improve clearing and leveling efficiency.

Necromancer

Necromancer has several good fast-leveling builds in D4 Season 15. Blood Wave and Bone Spirit are both suitable for the leveling phase. B Tier

Paladin

Paladin has several strong Speed Farming Builds in Season of Hell's Legacy, including Fists of the Heavens, Wing Strikes, and Blessed Hammer. For boss fights, Shield Charge and Shield of Retribution can be considered.

However, for Diablo 4 The Pit pushing, Shield Charge and Shield of Retribution, while being Paladin's strongest options, still struggle to reach the damage levels of the top builds from other classes. The class lacks an all-around build that can cover all endgame content without frequent build swaps.

Paladin is slightly ahead of Druid for leveling. Shield of Retribution can handle early content relatively consistently, making it a solid leveling build and putting Paladin slightly above Druid in the final ranking.

Druid

Druid is one of the more notable speed farming classes in Diablo 4 B Tier. Cataclysm and Lacerate are both competitive choices, performing well when clearing overworld content while also offering enjoyable gameplay.

For boss fights, Storm Strike and Landslide provide solid damage output. However, Druid begins to fall behind other classes during The Pit pushing. These builds remain usable, but it is difficult for them to reach the damage ceiling of the top builds from other classes.

Another issue for Druid is the lack of a universal build that works across different types of content. Lacerate, Storm Strike, Cataclysm, and Landslide each perform better in different activities, creating a clear gap between speed farming and high-difficulty D4 pushing and requiring build changes depending on the goal.

Warlock

Warlock is one class that changed the most in Diablo 4. During S15 PTR, it was once considered significantly stronger than other classes, but nerfs in the patch notes caused its ranking to drop. Warlock has still improved significantly compared to last season.

Warlock's main strength is The Pit pushing. Apocalypse and Blazing Scream are both powerful options. Apocalypse combines high-level The Pit and Boss performance with strong sustained damage, making it one of Warlock's more versatile General Endgame Builds.

Blazing Scream is also suitable for high-difficulty D4 endgame content, but it is less effective for speed farming. Speed farming is Warlock's main weakness. Apocalypse and Blazing Scream offer consistent damage, but their clearing speed is relatively slow.

Lunatic Warlock and Tyrants Gras are more focused on fast clearing and can make up for Warlock's weakness in speed farming. If only one build is going to be used throughout Diablo 4, Apocalypse has broader coverage.

For leveling, Apocalypse, Minion, and Dread Claws can all be used. Minion is relatively easy to play, Dread Claws focuses more on active melee combat, while Apocalypse can transition into endgame after leveling. However, none of the three has particularly fast leveling speed, and the early game also requires some Diablo 4 gold investment.

Sorcerer

Sorcerer sits at the bottom of B Tier. In Season 15, Firewall remains one of the class's strongest overall builds. It can push deep into The Pit and perform well against bosses, giving Sorcerer relatively stable D4 endgame performance.

Its main weakness is speed farming. Firewall is not particularly fast at clearing, while other Sorcerer builds focused more on fast farming lack enough damage to compete with other classes. During Season of Hell's Legacy 1-70 leveling phase, Blizzard Sorcerer is instead the better choice.

By September 16, officials reiterated that restoring SSF was a priority, but noted that the process required more time. However, this update still failed to specify the cause of the malfunction or provide an estimated launch time.

As of September 17, SSF has yet to be restored. While the initial server issues are largely in the past for standard Seasonal players, the wait continues for those planning to push for SSF leaderboard spots or undertake a full solo progression run.

Why Launch Timing Matters?

The first few hours - or even the first day or two - of a season are often the most critical period for rapid leveling, build optimization, and shifting leaderboard rankings. Some SSF players schedule their gaming time in advance, even adjusting work or personal plans to align with the season's start date.

For SSF players, this early progression phase involves building up gear, materials, and Diablo 4 gold from scratch; consequently, the opening days of the season are often when resource gaps begin to form most rapidly.

In community discussions regarding the delay, some players have mentioned taking time off work specifically for SSF launch. Others have stated that a key reason for choosing this mode is the desire to compete on a relatively fair leaderboard under the same set of restrictions.

In community discussions, one player mentioned progressing through some Season Objectives before pausing to wait for SSF; another noted that while they were playing the standard mode for now, they still hoped to return to a solo competitive environment.

Details such as Season Journey rewards and how progress carries over between Realms remain points of contention, with varying interpretations across the community. Until Blizzard provides further clarification, it is premature to assume that standard seasonal progress will necessarily affect future SSF characters.

Yet, the players' concerns are clear: if the ultimate goal is to experience SSF progression journey in full, spending days progressing with a standard character, only to create an SSF character from scratch later, does not make up for the time spent waiting.

The appeal of SSF lies in independently handling leveling, gear acquisition, and Diablo 4 gold accumulation from the moment of character creation; consequently, many players would rather pause their seasonal progress than substitute it with a different progression path.

Players Need a Clearer Timeline

As the wait drags on, the focus of community discussion has shifted toward Blizzard's communication style.

Recent discussions show players seeking details on the nature of the technical issue and whether recovery is likely to take hours or days. Others have questioned why updates from certain Community Managers appear first on Reddit, while the official forums do not receive information with the same frequency.

Of course, the time required to fix technical issues can shift as troubleshooting progresses, and committing to an ETA too early carries risks. However, for players who have already scheduled their SSF progression and leaderboard runs, even a rough timeframe remains highly valuable.

Knowing that the mode won't be restored today versus having absolutely no idea how long the wait will be creates two vastly different scenarios for how players plan their Season 15 experience.

Blizzard has currently only confirmed that SSF fix is ​​a high priority but requires more time. Whether the next update provides a more specific timeframe before the mode returns has become a key point of interest for the community.

The login issues that plagued the launch of D4 Season 15 are no longer the main topic of discussion; the primary challenge facing SSF players now is a wait with no clear end date.

For a mode that emphasizes independent progression and leaderboard competition, the timing of its availability is an integral part of the seasonal experience. The longer it takes to provide clear information, the more significant the impact of this uncertainty becomes on players' plans for the season's start.

Diablo 4 Season 15 brings the focus back to the past 30 years of Diablo history. Pandemonium Ruptures Rifts were only the beginning. This time, Season of Hell's Legacy looks further into Sanctuary's distant past, bringing back souls that had disappeared into the past.

Deckard Cain has returned to Sanctuary, and you will follow the trail of dark wanderers into classic battlefields that once belonged to Prime Evils. In Diablo 4 Waking Nightmares, you will once again face bosses and enemies from Diablo, Diablo II, Diablo III, and Diablo Immortal.

Seasonal Theme

The seasonal story of Diablo 4 S15 begins with the lost soul of Deckard Cain. Although Cain seems somewhat confused by this journey through time, his return also allows us to encounter some of the most familiar characters in Diablo history once again.

Three dark wanderers have returned to Sanctuary. You will need to track down Echoes of Prime Evils Mephisto, Baal, and Diablo and return to the classic areas they once left behind. 

Worldstone Chamber, Durance of Hate, and original Diablo's Tristram Cathedral will all become part of your Diablo 4 journey, bringing you back to battlefields that once belonged to Prime Evils.

After completing the related content, you can obtain Splinters of Evil and unlock different Prime Evil Reputation Tracks, gradually unlocking new Diablo 4 items and powers. The classic zones and bosses returning in Season of Hell's Legacy will also be presented through Waking Nightmares activity.

Waking Nightmares

Diablo 4 Waking Nightmares is one of the core activities in Season 15. You will first enter large Waking Nightmares while progressing through Seasonal Questline, and these activities will later remain available as repeatable endgame content.

Currently, Diablo 4 Waking Nightmares can roughly be divided into three different scales. The largest type consists of multi-layered Capstone Dungeons directly connected to Prime Evil seasonal story. 

One route recreates the classic progression from Diablo II Act V. You will start from The Ancients' Way, travel through Mount Arreat, and eventually enter Worldstone Keep, where you will fight Baal.

Another route will take you through Travincal, where you will complete Khalim's Will, destroy Compelling Orb, and finally enter Durance of Hate to face Mephisto directly.

These large Nightmares first appear during Diablo 4 seasonal questline, but they can still be replayed afterward. At higher Torment difficulties in Season of Hell's Legacy, you can also enter Pinnacle Capstones. 

Torment 10 and above will unlock more difficult versions, mainly for players who have completed their character progression and want to continue challenging high-difficulty content.

The second type of Waking Nightmare is closer to a traditional Diablo 4 dungeon. They will appear at fixed locations in Sanctuary and recreate classic locations from Diablo series, including Diablo II's Den of Evil, Forgotten Tower, Maggot Lair, Halls of Vaught, Arcane Sanctuary, Tal Rasha's Chamber, and Worldstone Chamber.

The third type is the smallest in scale and is more suitable for open-world exploration. These nightmares will randomly appear in Sanctuary. Once you enter, you will be taken to an isolated room where you will fight a past boss or groups of classic enemies.

Diablo 4 developers have revealed that Season of Hell's Legacy will feature around 30 such open-world encounters. These include boss fights against Queen Araneae, as well as encounters where you directly face classic enemies such as Flayers.

Chronicles

If you don't want to wait for random encounters, Season 15 also offers Chronicles of Nightmares. They work similarly to Nightmare Dungeon Keys. Once you obtain the corresponding Chronicle, you can actively choose a Diablo 4 Legacy Zone to enter, such as Den of Evil or Forgotten Tower.

Once inside, these classic areas will be remade by Diablo 4 as Minor Nightmares within Burning Hells and will include additional Dungeon Affixes, so the same location will not always provide exactly the same combat experience.

For example, Den of Evil Chronicle comes with two affixes: Horadric Strongroom and Hellbound Elites. The former guarantees that a Horadric Strongroom will appear in the area, while the latter gives Elite Monsters Hellbound Affix and causes them to deal an additional 20% damage.

Forgotten Tower will include Dungeon Delve and Dark Omen. Completing Dungeon Delve provides additional experience and Diablo 4 gold, while Dark Omen means that Nightmare will always contain an additional threat.

Classic Returns

Waking Nightmares in Diablo 4 Season 15 brings back content from Diablo, Diablo: Hellfire, Diablo II, Diablo III, and Diablo Immortal. The season is expected to feature nearly 20 Legacy Bosses and up to 25 Legacy Monster Types.

Classic Diablo II zones are an important part of this returning content. Countess will appear in Forgotten Tower, Coldworm will be located in Maggot Lair, and Nihlathak will appear in Halls of Vaught.

Summoner will guard Arcane Sanctuary, Duriel will return to Tal Rasha's Chamber, and the encounter with Baal will take place in Worldstone Chamber. Arreat Summit will also bring back Talic, Madawc, and Korlic, allowing you to face these Ancients once again.

The return of Maggot Lair in Season of Hell's Legacy also brings classic enemies such as lightning Scarabs and fly swarms back into Diablo 4, making the distinctive insect-filled area part of Waking Nightmares once again.

Nihlathak will also return to Diablo 4 through Halls of Vaught, although Blizzard has not yet revealed his complete skill mechanics or specific drops.

Classic encounters from Diablo I include Aidan, Archbishop Lazarus, The Butcher, and Diablo. From Diablo III, Queen Araneae will appear in Chamber of Queen Araneae, while Diablo Immortal's Zaka will appear in Pit of Anguish. Together, these encounters form the nostalgic part of Waking Nightmares.

Besides the classic zones and bosses returning through Waking Nightmares, Season 15 will also bring back nine Legacy Uniques. These D4 items will remain in Diablo 4 after the season ends and will be available in both Seasonal and Eternal Realms.

They include Leoric's Crown, Nemesis Bracers, Stone of Jordan, Squirt's Blouse, Arioc's Needle, Henri's Perquisition, In-Geom, The Furnace, and Messerschmidt's Reaver.

Waking Nightmares brings much of Diablo series' past 30 years into Diablo 4, creating a more direct connection between Season 15 and the previous Diablo games.

For longtime players, what may really be worth looking forward to is not simply seeing familiar names again, but experiencing what these classic battlefields will actually feel like after being remade in Season of Hell's Legacy.

The direction of future updates for Diablo 4 is shifting. During BlizzCon 2026, officials revealed that no further expansions are currently in the planning stages; instead, upcoming content will focus primarily on Seasons and the continuation of the storyline.

However, a lack of current plans is not the same as a permanent ban on future expansions. Blizzard has not completely closed the door on them; development on D4 Seasons, new classes, system overhauls, and narrative content will continue.

It is simply that these elements may no longer be bundled together and released all at once in a single expansion, as was done in the past.

A Shift in Update Strategy

For the past few years, the game's content structure has revolved around a "Season + Expansion" model. Seasons maintained a steady update cadence, introducing new mechanics, Diablo 4 items adjustments, and gameplay loops, while expansions delivered large-scale growth, consolidating story, zones, and core system changes into a single major update.

Vessel of Hatred expanded Sanctuary to include Nahantu, and Lord of Hatred took players to Skovos, adding new campaign content, endgame activities, and system adjustments along the way.

For players, these expansions served as crucial milestones for major game growth at regular intervals.

If the current plan holds, Diablo 4 may no longer feature these periodic, massive content milestones following Lord of Hatred.

Content that previously launched alongside an expansion - such as maps, story arcs, classes, and gameplay features - might now be distributed across various Seasons, Class Packs, and system updates, resulting in a more fragmented update rhythm.

What Might Be Lost?

Large-scale Diablo 4 campaigns are likely to be the most affected. Expansions allowed for a complete narrative centered on a primary antagonist and region, driving the main storyline forward over a significant span of time.

With Lord of Hatred advancing Story of Hatred centered on Mephisto, developers have already indicated that the narrative will gradually transition toward Story of Terror. Without a third expansion, this part of the story will probably unfold incrementally across multiple future Seasons.

Large-scale zone expansions will also become harder to predict. Both Nahantu and Skovos serve as platforms for expansions, allowing for the synchronized expansion of maps, dungeons, quests, and storylines within the same region.

While new locations may still appear in the future, one should not expect the release of another full-scale expansion-tier zone - at least not at the pace seen in the past - until an official announcement regarding the next major content plan is made.

Massive updates that bundle a new zone, a full campaign, multiple systems, and endgame content into a single release may also become increasingly rare. Such content may still find its way into the game, but it will no longer need to be packaged together into a single expansion.

New Classes and System Updates

Amazon class has already set the precedent here. It is scheduled for a standalone release in the first half of 2027, decoupling it from any major Diablo 4 expansion.

Four playstyles have been revealed so far: Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger, and Commander. Ranger leans toward ranged bow combat, while Skirmisher utilizes a new javelin weapon type.

Amazon serves as an example that future classes do not necessarily have to launch alongside an expansion. Classes can be released individually, while other content is distributed across seasons and long-term updates.

The direction for upcoming seasons is already taking shape. Following Season of Hell's Legacy, the associated storyline will continue to unfold, and adjustments will be made to War Plans, itemization systems, and character customization.

New classes and seasonal systems can also reshape how players spend resources, from gearing fresh builds to investing Diablo 4 gold into progression.

Content Disaggregation

Based on the currently announced plans, the game's post-Lord of Hatred content structure will probably become more distributed.

Classes can be released via Class Packs, D4 items and endgame systems can be continuously tweaked through seasons and major patches, and storylines can progress across multiple seasons.

Updates that previously required waiting for an expansion to launch en masse can now be released individually based on development progress.

This approach also offers greater flexibility for the narrative.

Gibson noted that the team has not locked in every step of the story leading beyond Diablo 4; instead, they intend to observe player feedback on various seasons before deciding exactly how the journey will unfold. 

This approach allows for a more consistent update cadence, yet it raises a question: once content is fragmented in this way, will players still experience the sense of massive expansion that defined the expansions of the past?

Filling the Void

While seasons can continuously introduce new mechanics, Diablo items, and gameplay loops, they are cyclical by nature, meaning some content inevitably disappears when a season ends.

If long-term updates rely too heavily on this cycle, Sanctuary risks a scenario where gameplay constantly shifts, yet the volume of permanent content fails to grow significantly.

Consequently, future seasons may need to shoulder a heavier load. Beyond delivering fresh gameplay every few months, they must advance the narrative and gradually integrate certain systems into the core game.

Class packs, endgame updates, and other permanent additions will need to fill the remaining gap left by the absence of traditional expansions.

The decision to forgo further expansions marks a clear turning point for Diablo 4, but it certainly doesn't signal the end of updates. Diablo 4 will continue to evolve beyond Lord of Hatred; it is simply that the traditional expansion model - so familiar to players - will no longer be the primary vehicle for the game's growth.

As for Diablo 5 - set roughly a century after the events of Diablo 4 - that belongs to a future chapter of Sanctuary's story. Before reaching that point, the developers must prove that Diablo 4 can continue to expand and evolve with no other expansion.

Diablo 4 Season 15 introduces the brand-new Soul Splinters mechanic.

These special socketable items grant characters bonus stats, damage boosts, or defensive capabilities, but they also come with varying degrees of negative effects. Players can socket them into rings and amulets and upgrade them using Horadric Cube.

Splinter of Anguish is highly attractive for builds in Season of Hell's Legacy that rely on critical hits to trigger effects, stack buffs via attack speed, or cast skills frequently.

Higher attack speed improves the feel of combat and can help certain skills trigger key mechanics more quickly. However, 30% increase in resource consumption significantly affects skill rotations - particularly for builds that rely heavily on Core Skills but have limited resource regeneration.

Splinter of Sin

Splinter of Sin grants Lightning Resistance and increases Maximum Life by 10%, 20%, 30%, or 40%, depending on its quality. In exchange, the character's Maximum Primary Resource is reduced by 30%.

The boost to Maximum Life enhances survivability, making it suitable for builds that need to withstand significant damage or rely on health for defensive mechanics.

For Diablo 4 melee characters and playstyles that require staying in the fray, this extra health is very useful.

However, 30% reduction in Maximum Resource can affect skill casting frequency, resource reserves, and the special mechanics of certain classes. In Season of Hell's Legacy, even with high health, a character's survivability can be compromised if they cannot cast key skills in time.

Splinter of Lies

Splinter of the Black Soulstone

Splinter of the Black Soulstone grants a bonus to all stats, with values ​​of 7, 20, 30, or 50 depending on quality. Upon killing an enemy, the character absorbs a soul that lasts for 15 seconds; each soul increases damage dealt by 2%, 3%, 4%, or 5%.

This effect stacks, but the duration does not refresh. Each soul increases the damage the character takes by 0.5%. This means that while Diablo 4 players gain higher damage output during Season 15, they also face progressively greater pressure on their survivability.

Splinter of Pain

Splinter of Pain grants poison resistance and provides 10%, 20%, 30%, or 40% damage reduction. Its downside is a 30% reduction in movement speed.

Damage reduction benefits melee characters, stationary DPS builds, and setups that require tanking sustained hits. When facing rapid-fire damage or persistent AoE attacks, consistent damage reduction increases the margin for error for Season 15 characters.

However, 30% movement speed penalty hinders positioning, chasing, dodging skills, and adjusting one's location during combat. For Diablo IV builds that rely on rapid movement to maintain offense or defense, this cost can be significant.

Splinter of the Mother

Splinter of the Mother grants physical resistance and makes the character Unhindered. Coming into contact with enemies inflicts Vulnerable status on them for 10 seconds. Depending on the quality, the character becomes Stunned for 4 seconds after making contact with 100, 150, 200, or 250 enemies.

Unhindered status helps mitigate movement-impairing effects during combat, while the ability to apply Vulnerable simply by touching enemies makes it easier for melee builds to maintain pressure on foes.

Splinter of the Mother is highly compatible with builds that need to stay close to targets, frequently move through crowds of monsters, or rely on Vulnerable debuff to boost damage output.

The issue lies in 4-second stun triggered after reaching the contact threshold. In Diablo IV scenarios involving high-density monster packs or elite encounters, a 4-second period of being crowd-controlled can be extremely dangerous, especially if the character is surrounded by enemies.

Splinter of Hellfire

Splinter of Hellfire grants resistance to all elements and increases damage dealt by 40%, 60%, 80%, or 100%. Its downside is the loss of 100% Critical Strike Chance.

In terms of damage bonuses, Splinter of Hellfire is the most aggressive choice among the eight Splinters. The highest quality offers a 100% damage increase alongside all-element resistance, providing significant offensive and defensive benefits for certain builds.

However, losing 100% Critical Strike Chance directly affects skills, Diablo 4 items, and Legendary effects that rely on critical hits.

If a player's build in Season of Hell's Legacy relies on critical hit procs, critical damage multipliers, or resource mechanics tied to critical hits, this cost might offset - or even outweigh - the benefits provided by Splinter itself.

Splinter of Damnation

Splinter of Damnation provides Shadow Resistance. Defeating an Elite pack temporarily increases Monster Power by 1, with the effect lasting 10, 15, 20, or 25 seconds depending on Splinter's quality.

Soul Splinters are the core mechanic of S15 of Hell's Legacy in Diablo IV. They manifest as special socketables that can be socketed into jewels. These provide powerful buffs but also come with significant and often fatal debuffs.

Soul Splinters are divided into five rarity levels: Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique, and can be upgraded using Horadric Cubes.
