However, this exacerbates a long-standing issue with the base campaign: character progression is accelerating, yet the difficulty ceiling for the story hasn't kept pace.

Players have noted that even without using meta builds - relying instead on just a few decent Legendary items - one can quickly dispatch Lilith. Some players reach Level 70 without even finishing Act IV, yet they still lack the option to bump the campaign difficulty up to Torment.

Campaign Difficulty Feels Outdated

When Diablo IV first launched, the pacing of leveling, gear acquisition, and build power differed significantly from the current state of the game.

After multiple seasons of skill adjustments, gear system updates, and expanded progression, players can finalize their core builds much earlier and easily achieve the damage output needed to melt bosses during the story phase. 

Access to stronger Diablo IV items also makes it easier for characters to outgrow the campaign's intended difficulty curve.

Consequently, the existing difficulty caps for the campaign feel increasingly conservative. Even when a character's power clearly surpasses Expert tier, the game offers no way to further increase the story's difficulty.

The issue here isn't that the campaign needs to be brutally difficult.

Newcomers to Diablo 4 still require a relatively gentle progression curve, and the story mode shouldn't force everyone to face endgame-level enemy scaling. However, players who can handle higher difficulties currently lack options.

When a final boss fight - built up over dozens of hours - ends in mere seconds because character power has vastly outpaced the story's difficulty, a boss like Lilith (intended to be the narrative climax) fails to deliver the tension and challenge the encounter deserves.

Season 15 Could Widen The Gap

Based on 3.2.0 PTR details revealed by Blizzard, Season 15 will further expand the possibilities for character builds.

Soul Splinters are a prime example of this.

These new items, which can be socketed into jewelry, come in various tiers. They offer effects that influence stats like critical hit chance, attack speed, health, damage reduction, and damage multipliers, while also introducing negative effects that force players to rethink their build compositions.

In addition, D4 Season 15 will introduce new Legacy Uniques and adjust systems related to Mythic items, giving players even more ways to improve their D4 items and overall build power. 

Meanwhile, Season 15 PTR has begun offering more testing opportunities for high-power characters. New Challenge Dungeons allow players to enter portals and face off against formidable bosses.

At Torment difficulty, players can even raise Challenge Dungeon's difficulty level - up to three Torment tiers above the current World Tier - in exchange for greater rewards.

Overland Ambush is another feature aimed at high-power characters; players are hunted by demons in the open world and can choose to either flee or stand and fight.

Blizzard has clarified that Challenge Dungeon encounters in PTR are primarily for system testing, and the content in the official Season 15 release remains subject to change.

While Season 15 already allows players to manually increase the difficulty of certain endgame content - even challenging enemies beyond their current Torment level - characters remain locked to Expert difficulty when replaying Lilith storyline.

As Soul Splinters, new gear, and build synergies continue to boost character power, the difficulty cap on the original campaign feels increasingly outdated.

More Ways To Raise Difficulty

Current viable adjustments can be categorized into several levels.

The most conservative approach is to unlock Penitent difficulty earlier, giving characters that have clearly outgrown Expert power levels access to a higher difficulty setting.

A step further would be to allow Torment difficulty for the campaign once a character reaches a certain level or meets the requirements to unlock that difficulty tier. Going even further, the game could introduce a New Game+ style system, enabling high-level characters to replay the entire main storyline.

D3 offers a straightforward point of comparison. Adventure Mode and Story Mode can be experienced separately, and characters can choose higher difficulty levels when re-entering the story based on their current strength.

In contrast, while Diablo 4 features a complete main storyline and boss encounters, it lacks a way for fully developed characters to engage with this content repeatedly.

Of course, simply unlocking Torment might not fully resolve the issue. Higher difficulties usually come with better items and faster progression; if character power continues to scale rapidly, the campaign could quickly lose its challenge once again.

Therefore, in the long run, Blizzard may need to consider independent difficulty scaling, progression rate adjustments, or replay mechanics.

What Could BlizzCon Change?

BlizzCon 2026 is also scheduled to take place around this time. Blizzard has confirmed that BlizzCon 2026 will take place on September 12-13.

In addition to Opening Ceremony, Diablo franchise will feature a Developer Update on September 12, followed by a dedicated Diablo IV: What's Next session on September 13; officials state this segment will cover upcoming content, features, and future plans.

However, there is currently no official word indicating that Blizzard plans to announce adjustments to Campaign difficulty at BlizzCon, so it is premature to assume this change is confirmed for Season 15.

That said, Diablo IV Season 15 PTR reveals that Blizzard is introducing more high-difficulty challenges for powerful characters. Challenge Dungeons allow for increased Torment Tiers, and Overland Ambush encounters are clearly designed for high-performance builds.

In contrast, the base Campaign remains capped at a relatively low difficulty level, making this disparity increasingly apparent.

If a final boss like Lilith can be defeated in mere seconds, the actual gameplay experience differs vastly from the game's launch, even if the main story content itself remains unchanged. As the seasonal system continues to expand, Campaign's difficulty and replayability warrant a fresh look.

Diablo 4 Season 15 is about to begin, and the new season's Splinters, Charms, War Plan Skill Tree, and gear drop mechanics will all affect how efficiently you develop your character in the early game.

If your goal is to increase your power as quickly as possible and push toward Torment 12, you cannot focus solely on clear speed during the leveling phase. Early planning is also essential.

Charms and Gems

In Diablo 4 Season 15, the resistance value on Charms will increase significantly. A GA resistance roll, which was previously around 787, is expected to rise to approximately 3,000, although the exact value may still change. The scale of this increase is large enough to affect gear choices.

As a result, a Charm with +2 Hellfire Scales and GA resistance could be more valuable than one with +3 Scales alone.

Three skill ranks provide approximately 7% damage, while higher resistance directly improves survivability. For long-term farming in Diablo 4, giving up a small amount of damage for greater toughness may offer better practical value.

The addition of Splinters in Diablo 4 S15 will further increase the value of Charms. Splinters provide fixed types of resistance. For example, a Splinter that already provides poison resistance can cover part of your poison resistance requirements. However, if your character is still lacking fire resistance, a Charm with fire resistance becomes more valuable.

This is because socket availability will become more limited in Season of Soul Splinters. Many D4 builds may consider using Leoric's Crown, and if both Jewel Slots are occupied by Splinters, Helm can no longer rely on Gems to provide additional resistance.

Chest and Pants sockets will usually need to be reserved for runes, leaving fewer slots available for flexible elemental Gems. Weapon may become one of the few equipment slots that can still be adjusted freely.

Therefore, there is no need to stockpile large quantities of every type of Elemental Gem in Season 15. For a pure fire build, you can prioritize crafting Rubies during the leveling phase, then convert excess Gems and Diablo 4 items through Jewel crafting.

War Plan Skill Tree

If your main goal is to level efficiently in Diablo 4 S15, Whisper-related points should be invested in Corrupted Roots and Fortune or Famine first. These nodes allow higher-quality caches to provide large amounts of Corrupted Roots.

Diablo 4 Corrupted Roots can provide Volatile Primordial Dust, Tuning Prisms, and Forgotten Souls. Volatile Primordial Dust is used to craft Transfigured Items, Tuning Prism is used for Amulet Aspects, and Forgotten Souls are important materials for crafting and upgrading D4 gear later on.

By comparison, Nightmare Dungeon-related points have a lower priority early on. Investing three points is sufficient. If you need more Escalations, you can choose Branching Pathways. If your main goal is farming Attuned Primordial Dust, Fearless Conviction may be worth considering instead.

For Diablo 4 Helltides, you can invest three points in Bursting Brood to obtain more Keys from Maggots. If you have additional points available, Hell's Prize is another option, as Helltide Chests have a decent chance of dropping Mephisto Keys for Mephisto Encounters.

Under City requires a more situational approach. If your main goal is experience, Jade Epiphany is one of the most valuable early investments in D4. The experience orbs provided by Maggots in Season of Soul Splinters will probably be nerfed, although the exact extent of the change remains unknown.

If Maggots' experience gains are reduced to one-third of their original value or even lower in Diablo 4 S15, Under City will become a much more important leveling location. If you are farming Greater Tributes of Armament, you can invest points in Idols of War instead.

Five Greater Tributes of Armament can be combined through Cube Amalgamation to create one Mythic Tribute, which is important for Mythic Farming later on.

Diablo 4 boss-related points are also worth prioritizing. Several nodes in the central area can help you access higher Ultimate Nemesis Layers and increase your chances of obtaining Mythic Seals. By comparison, Infernal Hordes can be left for later unless they receive additional buffs.

Leveling Route

After reaching Level 70 in Season 15, if you want to improve your gear level quickly, you can first visit PvP Area to look for special chests. These chests can provide Diablo 4 items with higher levels, helping shorten the early gear gap.

Once you obtain the gear and improve your character's power, unlock Torment 1 first, then return to Diablo 4 PvP Area to open the chests again. After entering Torment 1, the chests can provide Ancestral Gear, allowing you to complete your first major gear upgrade more quickly and move into the next stage of farming.

You can then raise your Diablo 4 Paragon to around 125. 125–130 range is particularly important because it allows you to unlock five Paragon Boards and their corresponding Legendary Nodes.

Early in Diablo 4, prioritize Legendary Nodes that provide significant improvements to your build. As for gaining Paragon levels, experience remains the key factor. If Maggots' experience gains are not heavily nerfed, they will probably remain the preferred option.

If Maggot's rewards are significantly reduced in Diablo 4 Season of Soul Splinters, you can consider leveling through Under City with Jade Epiphany. Under City's Experience Orbs appear at higher Tiers, so it can still provide consistent leveling value even if Maggots become less efficient.

Once you reach around Paragon 125, Legendary Runes will gradually become more important. Some legendary runes are core components of specific builds and may even determine whether a build functions properly.

Therefore, when you obtain excess Rare Runes during the early stages of Diablo 4, consider converting them into Legendary Runes. Five rare runes of the same type can be combined through Amalgamation to create one random legendary rune.

The efficiency of leveling in Diablo 4 Season 15 will depend heavily on how well you allocate resources during the early game. For players preparing to push toward Torment 12, there is no need to rush after perfect gear. Using your available resources to build up power and transition smoothly before gradually refining your build is the more reliable approach.

BlizzCon 2026 takes place on September 12–13, with Diablo playing a major role in the event. Blizzard will host live activities at Anaheim Convention Center while also offering online livestreams to keep you updated on the future of Sanctuary.

For Diablo players unable to attend in person, there is something worth preparing for ahead of time beyond just waiting for new game news: Twitch Drops.

Blizzard has announced Diablo livestream schedule for BlizzCon; by watching eligible Diablo 4 Twitch streams during the designated times, you can accumulate viewing hours and unlock corresponding rewards.

September 12 is the day with the most concentrated Diablo 4 content. Opening Ceremonies kick off at 10:15 a.m. PT, featuring Blizzard Entertainment President Johanna Faries alongside the heads of various Blizzard game teams. Officials have confirmed that Diablo will reveal future plans for Sanctuary during this opening event.

At 1:45 p.m. PT, Diablo: Developer Update will feature the development team sharing ideas, design philosophies, production processes, and future directions for Diablo series, giving you insight into how Blizzard is planning the next phase of the franchise.

However, it is important to distinguish between developer discussions and official announcements. Some ideas showcased or discussed by Diablo 4 team may still be in the early stages; new features or designs presented there should not necessarily be viewed as confirmed for release.

At 4:15 p.m. PT, there is a session titled Art of Darkness: Behind Diablo 4's Cinematics, which focuses on behind-the-scenes production. D4 cinematic team will discuss visual storytelling, performance, animation, and the production process behind Sanctuary's dark aesthetic. 

For players who enjoy Diablo 4 lore and cinematics, this segment will be a highlight. However, if you are primarily interested in upcoming updates, Diablo 4: What's Next session is the one to watch at BlizzCon 2026.

Taking place on Main Stage on September 13 at 11:00 a.m. PT, this session will offer a preview of upcoming content, features, and the roadmap for future updates.

Unlike Developer Update from the previous day - which focuses more on the series' philosophy and development process - What's Next deals directly with Diablo 4 content players care about most. It will likely cover Season 15, gameplay updates, and long-term content planning.

Blizzard has not confirmed that a new expansion will be announced during this session, so online predictions remain purely speculative. Blizzard might instead focus on content following Season 15 or offer an early look at the long-term direction of Diablo 4.

Twitch Drops

BlizzCon 2026 Twitch Drops are easy to earn. The event runs from September 12 at 10:00 a.m. PT to September 15 at 9:59 a.m. PT. During this period, simply watch eligible streams in D4 category on Twitch to accumulate watch time and earn corresponding Diablo 4 items.

The rewards are structured across three tiers. Accumulate 2 hours of watch time to earn Serrated Skean Dagger; reach 4 hours to get Corroded Cleaver Axe; and hit 6 hours to unlock Tintinnabulation Two-Handed Mace.

You can participate in Twitch Drops and track your progress even if you do not own the base Diablo 4 game or Lord of Hatred expansion. Regarding devices, you can earn and claim drops using PC or Mac browsers, as well as Twitch app on Android or iOS. However, Twitch apps on game consoles, smart TVs, and other TV-based platforms do not support Drops. 

Twitch Drops viewing progress is flexible; you don't need to watch a single channel from start to finish. As long as you watch eligible streams within Diablo 4 category on Twitch, your viewing time accumulates, and switching channels won't cause you to lose your progress.

However, there is a crucial limitation: opening multiple channels simultaneously does not accelerate your viewing time. Additionally, leaving a Diablo 4 stream running in the background or keeping the browser tab inactive means the time won't count toward the requirement.

Twitch Drops are not granted automatically. Once you meet the viewing time requirement, you must manually claim the reward - either on the channel you are watching or in your Twitch Drops Inventory. Remember to click Claim once the reward is ready.

Players planning to claim these Twitch Drops should verify beforehand that their Battle.net and Twitch accounts are linked. Blizzard requires you to log in to Battle.net and visit Twitch connection page to link your accounts; this step is necessary to successfully earn and claim Drops.

There are other available equipment options that players can choose based on their needs, primarily including: Tibault's Will (for resource recovery and damage output), Fists of Fate (for high damage fluctuations, which can improve average output), and Leoric's Crown (can be used in conjunction with Soul Splinters for additional power).

Stat Priorities

In Diablo 4 Season 15, you should prioritize increasing attack attributes. Critical Strike Chance should ideally be reached at 100%, followed by Vulnerable Damage Multiplier, and Core, Hellfire, and Demonology skill ranks.

Next, for defensive attributes, you should focus on Maximum Life, Resistances, and Armor. Season 15 has enhanced Resistances, making them more valuable than ever, as they provide more damage reduction.

Game Strategy and Output Rotation

What has Changed with Mythic Upgrades?

While Mythic Upgrades in Season 14 involved a high degree of randomness, D4 Season 15 allows players to directly upgrade an existing Unique item into a Mythic one.

Upon upgrading, the original item's Affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking are preserved, and Unique Power is increased by approximately 30%.

Consequently, it is better to farm a target Unique with strong stats first before performing Mythic Upgrade. Note, however, that you can only equip one Mythic item created via this recipe at a time; D4 Mythic items obtained through standard drops or other methods are not subject to this restriction.

How should You Choose Your First Mythic?

Since the supply of Sparks is limited during the early-to-mid stages of Season 15, your first Mythic upgrade should prioritize the core Unique item that provides the greatest benefit to your build.

When selecting a target, consider Unique Power's multiplier. A 20% effect might only rise to around 26% after upgrading - a relatively minor actual gain - whereas upgrading an effect with a high base multiplier yields a much more significant benefit.

Beyond the multiplier, consider whether Diablo 4 items directly contributes to your core damage output, how reliably its effect triggers, and whether the item's Affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking are of high quality. If these conditions aren't ideal, there is no need to rush into spending a Spark, even if the multiplier is high.

Upgrade Order

For the vast majority of builds, start by identifying the most important Diablo 4 Unique items in your current setup and comparing their Unique Powers, trigger frequencies, and impact on core damage output. Once you have identified your highest-priority target, farm a version with better stats, complete Tempering and Masterworking, and finally perform Mythic Upgrade.

After completing the first item, you can leverage this power spike to tackle higher-difficulty content. Faster mob clearing and progression speeds will improve the efficiency of acquiring subsequent gear and resources.

If you later obtain a stronger Mythic for the same slot, you no longer need to reserve your upgrade opportunity for that item; instead, you can shift your focus to the next high-value Unique in your build.

In this way, the priority for Mythic Upgrades shifts dynamically alongside your gear. Prioritize upgrading the item that offers the greatest benefit at your current stage, and only consider the next item once the current one has been replaced by a superior option.

Don't Rush to Use Your First Batch of Sparks

Although it is possible to acquire Sparks early in D4 S15, there is no need to perform a Mythic Upgrade immediately upon obtaining the resource.

If you haven't yet farmed your core Unique, or if the current version's key affixes and enhancement results are mediocre, it is better to continue progressing and farming gear. Since the upgrade preserves the item's current state, investing Sparks too early into a Unique that will soon be replaced yields little return.

The ideal time to upgrade is after you have locked in your build's core gear and possess a version of high enough quality to use reliably for an extended period. This ensures that your first Mythic Upgrade translates effectively into actual combat power.

How Should You Adjust if You Find Another Mythic Later?

The first Mythic you upgrade in D4 S15, doesn't have to occupy that slot forever.

If you subsequently find or craft a stronger Mythic that can replace your current piece, you can re-evaluate the remaining Uniques in your build and shift your upgrade target to the next most beneficial slot.

For example, you might initially prioritize upgrading Unique with the highest damage multiplier; once that slot is replaced by a stronger Mythic obtained through drops or crafting, you can then look at the item with the second-highest multiplier or the one that most significantly affects your build's rotation.

Therefore, the priority list for Mythic Upgrades is not static; it develops as your gear improves. Upgrade the item offering the highest current benefit first, and address the next item only after securing a replacement.

Why does This Change Mid-Game Progression?

In the past, Mythics were rarely included in mid-game builds because consistently obtaining specific items was difficult during that phase. 

With the introduction of targeted Mythic Upgrades in Diablo 4 S15, players can upgrade core Unique items into Mythics much earlier. This facilitates an earlier transition into a mid-game setup, providing a reliable boost to combat effectiveness during that phase.
