However, when selecting cards in the opening weeks, it pays to look ahead: does the card have the potential to benefit from future Evolutions?

Often, factors like maximum Pace, the number of positions played, PlayStyles, and specific attribute caps are what determine whether a card meets the eligibility criteria.

Before the specific requirements are announced, here are five cards worth keeping an eye on.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo's OVR has dropped to 84 in FC 27. While this is a clear downgrade for a standard card, from an EVO perspective, the lower rating might actually allow him to qualify for certain Evolution paths sooner.

In previous years, players rated 83 or 84 OVR have been eligible for EVOs. Ronaldo's main hurdle might be specific attribute caps, such as Shooting.

If EA continues to limit the power of early Striker Evolutions by capping specific attributes, his high base Shooting stat could potentially disqualify him from certain upgrade paths.

However, if an early Striker EVO allows for 84 OVR cards without capping Shooting, Ronaldo could quickly attract significant market interest.

He already boasts high name recognition, and his base player model and animations make him an appealing choice; if his Pace, Dribbling, or agility-related stats receive a boost, his in-game performance could reach a new level.

Therefore, Ronaldo is a prime candidate for your post-launch watchlist. If his day-one price is high, the subsequent drop caused by increased supply should offer a more reasonable entry point for spending your FUT 27 coins.

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford is a classic candidate for Starter EVOs. His 82 OVR rating leaves plenty of room for upgrades, and he already possesses high Pace. His return to Premier League also makes him a great fit for Chemistry and Starter Squads.

Even without an immediate EVO, Rashford is a viable option for your starting lineup right out of the gate; if he receives targeted boosts to Shooting, Dribbling, or other stats later on, he could easily approach the early meta level. 

Rashford fits the profile of a player who generates rapid demand when a suitable Evolution becomes available; players who are fast, have high name recognition, but possess lower base ratings often attract immediate attention once the right EVO is announced.

However, he also faces clear limitations. Early Evolutions often impose caps - such as a maximum Pace of 86-88 - meaning that high-speed players can sometimes be excluded by these very restrictions.

Therefore, when evaluating Rashford, one must check the maximum Pace limit alongside the maximum OVR.

Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman's strength lies in his balanced attributes. An 83 OVR is respectable; while none of his attacking stats are extreme outliers, his overall profile is solid enough for a Starter Squad while still leaving room for future upgrades.

Cards like this are ideal for low-requirement Striker Evolutions. If an Evolution for strikers rated around 83 appears shortly after the launch of FIFA 27 - similar to those seen in the previous game - Lookman would likely be a strong candidate.

Malen fits a similar profile. Both players possess a solid foundation for attacking roles; with even modest boosts to Shooting, Dribbling, or Physical stats, their in-game effectiveness could improve significantly.

Lookman might command a price premium in the first few days due to demand for Starter Squads. 

However, if no suitable Evolution appears early on, the price of such 83 OVR cards typically drops as market supply increases, giving players a better chance to save FC coins before getting in.

Fikayo Tomori

Fikayo Tomori's core advantage is obvious: 85 Pace.

In the early stages of EA Sports FC 27, center-backs rely heavily on base speed. While Defending and Physical stats can be bolstered later via Chemistry Styles or Evolutions, high base Pace allows a center-back to keep up with the pace of the game in an early-stage squad.

FC 26 featured Evolutions specifically for center-backs that enhanced base cards by boosting attributes like Defending and Physicality. If FC 27 follows a similar approach, a center-back like Tomori - who already boasts high Pace - would be perfectly suited for such upgrades.

These types of Starter CBs often see price premiums at launch. Unless a suitable Defender Evolution appears immediately, their prices usually stabilize and drop as market supply grows. 

For Tomori, it is best to monitor price fluctuations and weigh them against the specific restrictions of Defender EVO before deciding whether to spend your FIFA 27 coins on the card.

Kika Nazareth

Kika Nazareth stands out as having a distinct playstyle compared to the other four players on this list.

Her 83 OVR falls within the typical range for Starter EVO candidates; if FC series maintains requirements such as a maximum OVR of 83 and a maximum Pace of 86, she could potentially qualify for certain early-game Evolutions right away.

Representing Barcelona and Liga F, she benefits from a favorable Chemistry environment. Players like Claudia Pina, Vicky López, and Caroline Graham Hansen offer league or club links, giving Kika added value for squad building in early-game lineups.

Unlike big names such as Ronaldo and Rashford - who attract massive attention at launch - demand for Kika is likely to remain relatively steady initially.

However, should a future Evolution feature rating, pace, and position requirements that align perfectly with her stats, market demand for her card could see a significant spike.

At the launch of FC 27, attributes such as Ronaldo's 84 OVR, Rashford's high Pace, Lookman's balanced attacking stats, Tomori's 85 Pace, and Kika Nazareth's Liga F Chemistry give each of them unique potential for Starter EVOs.

Waiting until the first batch of Evolutions is revealed - and then assessing the requirements and market prices before committing - is a safer strategy than chasing high prices right at launch.

The truly fun gameplay involves finding a team with a story, problems, and genuine rebuilding potential, and gradually guiding the club back to its rightful place from a less-than-glamorous starting point.

Squad strength, club history, young players, promotion pressure, and even a veteran's final years can all be reasons to keep playing. Compared to starting with everything, building your team from limited resources often makes it easier to create your own story.

However, in the past year, several key players have left, including a young star joining Everton, MLS top scorer moving to MLS, and a promising player transferring to Aston Villa. The manager also went to Manchester United.

Taking over Middlesbrough at FUT 27, you need to rebuild a competitive squad. Developing young players, strengthening the transfer market, and aiming for Premier League should be the main goals for Career Mode in the next few seasons.

Hannover 96

Hannover 96 hasn't been in Bundesliga for eight seasons, but the team's history is anything but ordinary. As a traditional German team, they once defeated DFB-Pokal, but have consistently failed to achieve promotion in recent seasons.

Last season, Hannover 96 lost their promotion play-off spot in the final round. The team subsequently lost a significant number of key players. Following the departure of three crucial players, Enzo Leopold, captain, core player, and a symbol of the team, joined Borussia Mönchengladbach, further weakening Hannover 96 for the new season.

In FIFA 27, Hannover 96 has a unique storyline: they will face Wolfsburg and Eintracht Braunschweig in the same league. The match against Braunschweig, in particular, is a derby game with a distinctly German football flavor.

Taking over Hannover 96 in FUT 27 requires rebuilding the squad while facing regional competition and promotion pressure. If you want to rebuild your team starting from the 2. Bundesliga, choosing Hannover 96 will make it easy to create your own story.

Celta de Vigo

If you choose Celta de Vigo, your core objective in FC 27 Career Mode is to help Iago Aspas win the championship he has yet to achieve.

Celta de Vigo possesses a distinct Galician regional culture. Last season, they participated in Europa League, reaching the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Freiburg.

Iago Aspas has played for Celta for over 12 years but has never won a true title. He's nearing the end of his career, and his official base card in FUT 27 is confirmed to be only 81 OVR, priced around 10,000 FIFA 27 coins - a somewhat regrettable outcome.

In EA FC 27, you can plan the team's future seasons around Aspas, making Europa League a key objective. Celta de Vigo has also moved to LaLiga 2, giving their youth academy more room to grow.

You can help Aspas achieve his European championship dream first, then have him transition to coaching Celta de Vigo after retirement, creating a complete story in Career Mode.

ESTAC Troyes

ESTAC Troyes' story is perhaps unique in FIFA 27. After being acquired by City Group in 2020, Troyes quickly rose to Ligue 1. Fans initially thought this meant long-term investment, but the reality was quite different. Troyes largely became a player transfer hub within City Group system.

Sávio is a prime example; after signing with Troyes, he was constantly loaned out and never actually played for the club. Meanwhile, Troyes' own squad weakened, ultimately leading to consecutive relegations. In 2022-23 season, they were relegated to Ligue 2, and then further down to Championnat National in 2023-24 season.

However, because of Bordeaux's disqualification, Troyes unexpectedly gained the opportunity to remain in Ligue 2. Coach Stéphane Dumont rebuilt the team with a very young squad and ultimately won Ligue 2.

Now Troyes is back in Ligue 1, but the team's market value remains very low; Troyes players' ratings and the required FC coins in FUT 27 are also very low. In this situation, they also have to face teams like PSG, AS Monaco, OGC Nice, Lille OSC, Olympique de Marseille, and RC Lens.

Following the conclusion of EA Sports FC 27 Closed Beta, EA announced a series of gameplay adjustments based on player feedback.

Rather than simply fixing bugs, these changes target practical mechanics players encounter frequently, including physical battles, Team Press, defensive depth, Lengthy players, Player Lock, and passing controls.

EA has also confirmed that early Title Updates after FUT 27 launches will take a cautious approach to balance changes. The team does not plan to make sweeping gameplay adjustments simply because a popular playstyle emerges during the opening days.

That makes these post-beta changes particularly important. Mechanics such as Team Press, Lengthy, and Bruiser are likely to enter launch in a similar state and remain stable while players build Ultimate Team squads and experiment with tactics.

Team Press

During Closed Beta, Team Press drew criticism because AI teammates could still aggressively pressure the ball carrier near the user's own goal, reducing how much defending players needed to handle manually.

EA has directly addressed this. In FUT 27, Team Press will no longer have any effect once the ball enters the defending team's defensive third.

Team Press remains usable higher up the pitch, but defenders will apply less pressure than midfielders and forwards. When defenders step out of the defensive line, the space behind them also becomes easier to exploit with through balls.

This places more responsibility on manual defending. Once the opponent enters the defensive third, players need to switch defenders, block passing lanes, and engage physically instead of relying on AI pressure.

Defensive Depth has also been adjusted. Beta feedback suggested defensive lines could still sit too high even with low depth settings. Defenders will now retreat earlier and maintain more conservative positions at lower depths.

As a result, the difference between high pressing and low-block defending should become more noticeable.

For players planning to invest FIFA 27 coins early in Ultimate Team to bolster their defense, attributes such as Pace, Strength, and defensive PlayStyles for center-backs will become even more critical factors to consider.

Bruiser

Physicality was another major discussion point during FUT 27 Closed Beta, particularly around Bruiser PlayStyle and Shoulder Challenge.

EA still wants Shoulder Challenge to be an effective defensive tool, but timing and positioning now matter more. It works best when the defender is side-by-side with the ball carrier, while repeatedly spamming the input from behind is less effective.

Rapid consecutive Shoulder Challenges cause the defender to reach out and lose movement speed, making it riskier to chase attackers while repeatedly pressing the challenge button.

Strength still matters in physical defending, and Bruiser continues to provide an advantage, although the additional benefit from Bruiser+ has been slightly reduced.

High-Strength center-backs and defenders with Bruiser therefore remain useful, but PlayStyle cannot completely compensate for poor positioning.

Lengthy Players

Lengthy players were also highly effective during Closed Beta, leading EA to adjust both AcceleRATE and Triggered Runs.

Triggered Runs now have a distance limit. A single command will no longer keep a player running forward over a long distance, and players must trigger another run if they want the movement to continue.

EA has also reduced the impact of AcceleRATE profiles on overall running performance, bringing Explosive, Controlled, and Lengthy players closer together.

Acceleration and Sprint Speed therefore become more important compared with relying only on a player's movement archetype.

Lengthy is not useless. Tall strikers and some midfielders can still benefit from sustained acceleration, but players need to pay closer attention to individual Pace stats.

Especially during the early stages of Ultimate Team - when spending FC 27 coins on players - relying solely on Lengthy profile is no longer sufficient; Acceleration and Sprint Speed must also be factored into the comparison.

Player Lock

Player Lock carried relatively little risk during the beta. When users switched control to an off-ball player, CPU-controlled ball carrier could automatically avoid defenders, allowing the user to focus heavily on off-ball movement.

In FIFA 27, the ball carrier will no longer automatically maneuver around defenders. Instead, they will continue moving in the same direction they were already travelling.

This gives defenders more opportunities to recognize Player Lock and pressure the ball carrier. CPU-controlled passes during Player Lock will also have slightly more error.

The mechanic can still create manual runs and reposition receivers, but players now need to pay more attention to what is happening on the ball.

Dinked Pass And Corner Kick

EA has also adjusted Dinked Passes, corner kicks, and attacking movement to place greater emphasis on manual control.

Dinked Pass is now fully manual. During Closed Beta, repeated Ground Pass inputs could accidentally trigger it, so EA has removed Dinked Pass from Ground Pass command.

Repeated Ground Pass inputs now produce only a standard ground pass. To perform a Dinked Pass, players need to double-tap Through Pass and manually aim its direction.

Corner kicks also provide less assistance during manual control. While FC 26 already allowed players to control someone inside the box, FUT 27 will no longer automatically guide that player toward the expected landing point.

Player Roles And Attacking Spatial Awareness

Player Roles and Attacking Spatial Awareness will work together to influence AI attacking movement.

Player Roles determine the types of runs available based on position and Role, while Role Familiarity, Role+, and Role++ affect how urgently players make those runs.

Attacking Spatial Awareness does not replace Player Roles. Instead, both systems contribute to attacking movement.

For Ultimate Team players, Role Familiarity therefore remains important when building squads, especially when choosing between cards with similar attributes or market prices.

Career Mode And Authentic Gameplay

Career Mode and Authentic Gameplay will also receive CPU AI adjustments.

EA is recalibrating the differences between Professional, World Class, and Legendary difficulty, adjusting certain CPU sliders, and improving AI behavior in build-up play, 1v1 finishing, and defending against through balls and triggered runs.

Overall, FC 27 keeps the core purpose of these mechanics while adding more conditions and risks to their use.

Team Press still supports high pressing, Bruiser remains valuable for physical defending, Lengthy retains its long-distance running strengths, and Player Lock can still create advanced off-ball movement. The difference is that players will have fewer low-risk ways to rely on a single mechanic.

With EA avoiding major balance changes early after launch, the defensive approaches, movement choices, and squad setups discovered during the opening weeks could remain relevant for longer.

Looking only at the next three to five years, Mbappé remains the safest choice. FC 27 gave him a 91 OVR, tying Haaland for the highest rating among male footballers, along with 96 Pace, 91 Shooting, and 92 Dribbling. EA also listed him as the fastest player in the game.

In Ultimate Team, that combination will likely make Mbappé one of the most expensive players to acquire with FUT 27 coins.

But ratings are only one part of the equation. Mbappé is in his prime, playing at a top club like Real Madrid and consistently a key attacking force for French national team.
