In the latest EXO Experts Warbond in Helldivers 2, Super Earth's Ministry of Defense has finally turned its attention back to those long-forgotten mechanical behemoths. After a long wait, the official release of this EXO-themed Warbond took place on April 28th.
For every Helldiver who defends democracy, the arrival of EXO Experts Warbond signifies a rewriting of the rules of the battlefield - when machines become the enemy, only the more powerful machines can fight fire with fire.
This EXO Experts Warbond in Helldivers 2 offers players a completely different EXO combat experience. The following will analyze the detailed performance, tactical positioning, and actual value of these two EXOs on the battlefield.
Exo-51 Lumberjack
Exo-51 Lumberjack is not a new concept weapon created out of thin air, but a modern reinvention of Lumberer from First Galactic War.
In the current version of Helldivers 2's EXO system, EXO's role is very clear: to deal with both heavy armor units and dense enemy groups with high burst firepower, becoming a versatile vehicle capable of tearing through the front lines and clearing out mobs.
Weapon Configuration
Lumberjack's core armament consists of an Anti-tank gun and a Flamethrower. Anti-tank gun has heavy penetration capabilities, able to penetrate the armor layers of enemy heavy units head-on, and even inflict effective damage on tank-level enemies.
This means that when facing Anti-tank level targets, Lumberjack doesn't need to flank or find weak points; direct frontal fire is sufficient to suppress or destroy them.
Flamethrower is responsible for dealing with light and medium-sized units that Anti-tank gun struggles to handle effectively. When medium-armored enemies swarm in, Flamethrower can unleash continuous area damage, incinerating weaker targets.
The complementarity of the two weapon systems means that Lumberjack has virtually no significant blind spots on the battlefield. Anti-tank guns engage high-value hardened targets, while Flamethrowers clear out clusters of light armor; switching between the two is sufficient for most combat scenarios.
Battlefield Effectiveness
According to frontline feedback, Lumberjack performs admirably in actual combat, its name reflecting its ability to efficiently clear enemy lines, much like felling trees. For players accustomed to EXOs, this addition fills the gap in Helldivers 2's previous lack of a heavy firepower + sustained area damage combination.
Compared to the older Helldivers 2 Items that simply carried missiles, Lumberjack is significantly more adaptable against mixed forces.
However, every EXO has inherent weaknesses. Lumberjack's disadvantages include relatively sluggish mobility and the inherent vulnerability of Helldivers 2 EXOs. It is easily destroyed by high-damage attacks.
Therefore, when controlling Lumberjack, extra attention must be paid to positioning and engagement distance to avoid being instantly killed by concentrated fire. Overall, this is a high-risk, high-reward offensive EXO, suitable for players who dare to push head-on and are good at controlling the pace of combat.
Exo-55 Breakthrough
Unlike Lumberjack's pure destruction approach, Exo-55 Breakthrough takes a balanced approach. This EXO is equipped with an Anti-air gun and a Ballistic Shield, officially described as a vehicle capable of unleashing heavy firepower even against the most formidable enemies on Super Earth.
Anti-air Gun
Despite its name, this weapon is also effective against ground targets in actual combat. Its ballistics and explosive characteristics allow it to inflict considerable damage on light and medium ground units, and even suppress some low-flying floating enemies.
This versatile design ensures that Breakthrough is not useless against enemies lacking air units. Anti-air gun is essentially a high-rate-of-fire, high-explosive-range cannon, but with additional tracking or ballistic optimization when aiming at air units.
However, Anti-air gun is not an Anti-tank weapon. It cannot penetrate heavy armor head-on like Lumberjack's Anti-tank gun.
Therefore, Breakthrough is better suited for supporting advances, clearing low-to-medium threat targets, and intercepting enemy aerial harassment units. Against true tank-level enemies, Breakthrough needs to rely on teammates or other strategies.
Ballistic Shield
Breakthrough's biggest differentiating feature is its Ballistic Shield. In Helldivers 2's existing EXO system, most EXOs are purely firepower platforms, lacking active defense.
The addition of Shield allows Breakthrough to withstand a certain amount of small arms fire head-on, thus increasing its survivability when advancing in open areas. This is especially crucial for missions requiring breaking through enemy fire lines.
Of course, Shield is not invincible; it can only withstand limited damage from the front, and its protection against heavy weapons or explosive splash damage is significantly reduced. Players still need to be aware of threats on the flanks and rear to avoid being flanked.
Furthermore, the existence of Shield also means that Breakthrough might be slightly inferior to a purely offensive EXO in terms of firepower output. This is a design trade-off: sacrificing some burst damage for a safer combat rhythm.
EXO Tactical Ecosystem
In addition to the two core EXOs, EXO Experts Warbond includes several new Helldivers 2 Items, which together form a complete EXO-themed combat system.
The newly introduced E2 heavy operator armor and O-3 Free Spirit each provide an Oxygenator. This allows players to slightly increase movement, running, and sliding speed. Although the effect is limited, for players who frequently deploy EXOs, higher movement speed means faster battlefield repositioning.
Overall, Helldivers 2's EXO Experts Warbond successfully elevates EXO from an occasionally used toy to a tactical core. Lumberjack and Breakthrough EXOs represent two paths: extreme firepower and balanced offense and defense, respectively. Players can flexibly choose based on mission type, enemy composition, and their own preferences.
It is foreseeable that after the update on April 28th, more EXO-led push tactics will appear on the battlefield, and dealing with the enemy's heavy anti-EXO firepower will become a new challenge.
The two EXOs brought by Helldivers 2 EXO Experts Warbond are each unique, both inheriting classic designs and optimized for modern battlefields.
While the inherent vulnerability of EXOs remains, the diverse tactical options will greatly enrich the gameplay experience and are expected to reshape team cooperation modes.
