Recently, the developers of Helldivers 2 announced a highly anticipated performance enhancement project, Optimizing Liberty. This project aims to introduce new technologies to achieve higher frame rates and a more responsive gaming experience across all platforms.
On PC, this patch supports a range of GPU ecosystems, such as NVIDIA's DLSS and Reflex, along with AMD's FSR 4 and Intel's XeSS. On PlayStation 5 Pro, the graphics enhancement is handled by PSSR technology; standard PS5 and Xbox consoles primarily rely on FSR 3.1 for optimization.
Meanwhile, all preset parameters, variable refresh rates, and dynamic resolution rendering resolution targets have been uniformly set to 1440p, and more performance optimization updates are expected to be released this summer.
However, despite this seemingly beneficial update, player feedback has taken a completely opposite turn.
A Long-Awaited Technical Update
From a technical perspective, this update is significant, as Arrowhead provides multiple parallel technical paths for PC graphics ecosystem.
According to Steam announcement, after the patch goes live, Helldivers 2 will support FSR 4.0.3 on compatible AMD graphics cards, while also being compatible with FSR 3.1.5, DLSS 4.5 and XeSS 3.0.
For NVIDIA graphics cards, this update adds Reflex feature, which effectively reduces input latency by coordinating the rendering process, drivers, and frame timing logic.

In Optimizing Liberty, image super-sampling is no longer just a one-way technical challenge, but has gradually shifted to issues of compatibility and quality management.
In terms of specific strategies, NVIDIA typically employs AI-driven reconstruction technologies such as DLSS in its rendering pipeline; AMD positions FSR as a general-purpose solution for a wide range of hardware; while Intel's XeSS aims to bridge the gap between hardware-specific support and algorithmic flexibility.
Analysts in the rendering field have repeatedly pointed out: "Performance modes should not only increase frame rates, but more importantly, provide a smooth and consistent frame time curve."
