After playing Helldivers for thousands of hours, I've used virtually every weapon, each with its own unique uses and attributes. Based on my experience, I've compiled a list of what I consider being my top ten weapons.
These 10 weapons may not be the strongest in terms of stats, but they are definitely the ones I've enjoyed the most and that are most worth your time to unlock and upgrade.
From AR-2 Coyote to LAS-17 Double-Edge Sickle to SMG/FLAM-34 Stoker, each offers unique fun and practical value. Whether you're a recruit or a veteran, this list will help you find your next signature weapon:
- 1. SG-97 Sweeper
- 2. PLAS-39 Accelerator Rifle
- 3. LAS-17 Double-Edge Sickle
- 4. AR-2 Coyote
- 5. MP-98 Knight
- 6. PLAS-101 Purifier
- 7. AR-23A Liberator Carbine
- 8. CB-9 Exploding Crossbow
- 9. SMG/FLAM-34 Stoker
- 10. R-72 Censor

1. SG-97 Sweeper
This new shotgun from Superstore boasts a magazine-loaded 7-round capacity, medium armor penetration, and a high single-shot damage of 504. It feels great to use. It comes with a bayonet, and with this year's increased bayonet melee damage, you can achieve a smooth rhythm of thrusting and shooting.
When it comes to attachments, I suggest using either a 2x or 4x scope together with a fully calibrated muzzle. This setup enhances both range and precision, enabling you to land hits on enemies from far away. It's the ideal choice for easily targeting weak spots on Devastators or Overseers. For Voteless foes, however, you should switch to a Duckbill muzzle and iron sights, as this combination delivers a wider bullet spread and more responsive handling.
2. PLAS-39 Accelerator Rifle
This gun, from Killzone collaboration weapon, has been upgraded with more ammo and unlimited range. It's suitable for clearing enemy bases from high ground or open lava maps.
Since medium armor-piercing weapons can now destroy the vents on the back of Automatons, PLAS-39 Accelerator Rifle can also take down tanks or Cannons from beyond its range. It's great for providing long-range cover for teammates and picking off enemies one by one. However, because it's a collaboration weapon, it cannot be upgraded further.
3. LAS-17 Double-Edge Sickle
This weapon has few upgrade options, but their performance remains unaffected. Its damage increases with firing time, and it will ignite itself when overheated, so fire-resistant armor or a supply backpack are recommended.
Once it reaches heavy armor-piercing mode, it can even take down Automatons by shooting them in the eye. As long as you stay alive, the near-infinite ammo allows you to rack up incredibly long kill streaks in Bug Breach or Voteless.
4. AR-2 Coyote
This gun features medium armor-piercing ammo, incendiary ammo, and a 45-round magazine, and its appearance is similar to AK. The developers initially stated they wouldn't nerf it, but later quiet adjustments sparked strong player dissatisfaction, ultimately leading to a buff to its incendiary effect, restoring its strength.
It has essentially become the benchmark for powerful primary weapons. Its extremely low recoil, combined with a vertical foregrip and flash hider, makes recoil control easy. The continuous incendiary damage can one-shot most small enemies, making it one of the top weapons to unlock for new and returning players.
5. MP-98 Knight
This submachine gun is undoubtedly one of the strongest primary weapons in Helldivers. It requires unlocking Super Citizen Edition, but trust me, it's absolutely worth the extra money to upgrade. It's a one-handed weapon that can be equipped with a shield and has a 70-round drum magazine once unlocked.
It's also one of the fastest-firing weapons in Helldivers 2, even surpassing Star Wars and Maxigun. In burst fire mode, it can quickly eliminate automated mechanical enemies with three-round bursts.
SMG-203 Gallant included in Helldivers 2: The Exo Experts Warbond is a variant of MP-98 Knight, sacrificing magazine capacity for high penetration.
However, you need to spend 1,000 Helldivers 2 Super Credits to gain The Exo Experts Warbond in Warbonds tab of Acquisition Center to unlock SMG-203 Gallant using Medals.
6. PLAS-101 Purifier
This plasma weapon deals 500 points of explosive damage with a charged shot, suitable for mid-to-long range; it can also be used for rapid fire against close-range enemies. Plas 101 Purifier is versatile in almost all situations.
A single charged shot can kill new mechanical enemies or throw them off balance by hitting the ground. Explosive damage is also effective against Voteless or Terminids.
For attachments, if you prefer rapid fire, choose the vertical foregrip to reduce recoil; if you prefer charged shots, choose the angled foregrip to improve handling.
7. AR-23A Liberator Carbine
Its drum magazine is excellent, providing 60 rounds at max level and a rate of fire of 920, earning it the community nickname Little Star Wars.
With a vertical foregrip and flash hider, the recoil is extremely low, allowing for easy spraying with either a gamepad or mouse. Liberator Carbine also looks cool; the side magazine pouches, various decorations, and drum magazine make it far superior to the default Liberator.
8. CB-9 Exploding Crossbow
CB-9 Exploding Crossbow was weak upon release, but after multiple buffs, it became ridiculously strong and has yet to be nerfed. You can unlock it in Democratic Detonation Premium Warbond using 80 Helldivers 2 Medals.
In terms of both fun and overall strength, it's definitely an S-tier weapon: high explosive damage, capable of killing multiple enemies simultaneously, one-handed use, can be paired with a shield or used to carry mission items, and can destroy targets like Bot Fabricator Buildings, Illuminate ships, or Bug Holes.
It's compatible with almost all configurations, and although it has few attachments, it doesn't detract from being one of the strongest primary weapons in the game. You mainly upgrade it to change scopes and skins.
9. SMG/FLAM-34 Stoker
Flam 34 Stoker is one of the newest primary weapons added to Helldivers 2, and can be considered the strongest submachine gun currently available, even reaching S-tier at max level.
Its appearance is similar to Star Wars' E-11, and its single-shot damage can reach 130, surpassing all assault rifles. It's also one-handed and very suitable for use with a shield.
He also comes equipped with an underbarrel flamethrower, which can be switched at any time. Even more surprisingly, despite the current nerfs to the long-range damage of all submachine guns, its long-range performance remains quite good.
For attachments, a 4x scope, a Muzzle Brake, and a drum magazine are recommended to achieve a 60-round magazine capacity. In combat, the submachine gun can also be used to deal with smaller enemies, while switching to the underbarrel flamethrower makes it easy to handle heavy targets, such as destroying a Factory Strider in seconds, setting a new benchmark for SMGs.
10. R-72 Censor
R72 Sensor has been my favorite designated marksman rifle since its release. At max level, it can be equipped with a 30-round magazine and a 10x scope; underbarrel attachments are less important.
Most notably, it comes with a built-in suppressor. While its single-shot damage isn't high, it's perfect for stealth missions, making stealth a truly viable tactic. It's better than R-63 Diligence in almost every aspect, not only allowing players to experience the thrill of silently eliminating enemies from a distance but also changing conventional gameplay and allowing players to try more diverse playstyles.
In fact, besides Helldivers 2 Items listed above, I also have a few other options, such as R-6 Deadeye, PLAS-1 Scorcher, and SG-451 Cookout. These three weapons are also very close to the rankings above; after all, there are so many fun and useful weapons in Helldivers 2. You just need to focus on what you like or what suits you best.
