In the latest update to Helldivers 2, Vox Engines have emerged as a brand-new top-tier threat. This heavily armed war machine is hailed by Automaton faction as the most lethal armored unit they have ever deployed.
Vox Engines are not merely meat shields; they combine the characteristics of War Striders and Factory Striders, possessing overwhelming firepower and an extremely high respawn rate, making them incredibly difficult to defeat.
This guide will introduce and analyze Vox Engines' capabilities, weaknesses, and the most effective weapons against them.
Vox Engines
Vox Engines' primary threat comes from its multi-layered weapon system. Two 360° rotating side turrets are mounted on its torso. Each shell can directly hit and kill one Helldiver after another. Unlike traditional armored units with limited firing angles, Vox Engines can fire indiscriminately and without blind spots, making it difficult to flank them.
Furthermore, it is equipped with a pair of heavily modified twin-linked laser cannons mounted on its chassis, capable of firing 7 to 10 rounds simultaneously with a massive damage radius; a direct hit can be instantly fatal.
Unlike other tanks in the game, Vox Engine's tracks cannot be destroyed. Attacking the tracks wastes valuable ammunition. This means the tank maintains full mobility until destroyed.
Most terrifyingly, when Vox Engine is near death, it ejects its driver at extremely high speed. This cyborg, housed in a container traveling at Mach 30, is guaranteed to kill if hit by it.
Weaknesses
Despite its robust armor, Vox Engines still possess exploitable weaknesses. Its chassis features six illuminated radiators: one at the bottom, two at the waist, and three at the torso. Shooting these areas significantly reduces its health. Destroying the four vents will defeat this behemoth.
Additionally, there's a grenade launcher beneath Vox Engines, which you need to destroy by going under the tracks. If the player breaks the cover and throws a grenade inside, the internal explosion will cause severe damage. However, be aware that Vox Engines twirl 360 degrees, making this method too aggressive and risky.
Best Weapons
After extensive testing, here are some weapons that are very effective against Vox Engines.
EAT-411 Leveller and GP-20 Ultimatum perform exceptionally well due to their high burst damage. You can use them to aim for the waist area between the tracks for a quick kill. In many cases, 2 to 4 accurate shots are enough to destroy a Vox Engine.
Eagle Strafing Run is surprisingly effective; usually, only two shots are needed to destroy the target. However, its effectiveness largely depends on whether anti-aircraft defenses have been cleared beforehand. Automaton missions frequently deploy Anti-Air Emplacements. These emplacements block Eagle Stratagems until they are destroyed.
Additionally, if deployed properly, Orbital Gatling Barrage can destroy a Vox Engines in one shot. Unlike Eagle Strafing Run, this Stratagem is unaffected by any anti-aircraft defenses, making it very reliable in combat zones.
Orbital Laser is also a decent and reliable weapon. If the locked target is a tank ram, it can quickly destroy the target, but if it targets the turret components, the kill time will increase significantly.
TD-220 Bastion MK XVI can destroy a Vox Engines with just two to three shells, provided the shells accurately hit the radiator or waist. However, its survivability is poor. The firepower of Vox Engines can quickly weaken Bastion Tank, rendering it unusable.
Alternative Weapons
GR-8 Recoilless Rifle can destroy a Vox Engine in about four shots. While feasible, its reload animation can make you extremely vulnerable to mortar and Cyborg units.
FAF-14 Spear can destroy a Vox Engine with just three hits to the torso, but requires very precise aiming.
B/MD C4 Pack and G-123 Thermite are very effective when thrown at the waist of a Vox Engine. Usually, three C4 or Thermites are enough to kill an enemy.
Underperformers
FLAM-40 Flamethrower has high armor penetration, but its actual effective damage is negligible. Chainsaws also don't provide sustained damage, so it's not worth the risk of close-range combat.
AC-8 Autocannon and A/MLS-4X Rocket Sentry can be effective, but they often aim at suboptimal targets, prolonging combat time and increasing the likelihood of destruction.
Survivability
Given the explosive output of Vox Engines, armor selection is crucial. CM-14 Physician can extend the duration of stims, a last-ditch effort to save lives in chaotic battles. Armor with Explosive Resistance is also an option, providing the most consistent movement speed and stamina regeneration.
Player Reviews
Compared to previous Automaton threats such as War Striders or Leviathans, Vox Engine's greater aggressiveness has been widely praised by players. It encourages cooperative gameplay and precision shooting, rather than simple suppressive fire.
However, its sheer power has overwhelmed many players. Some complain that Vox Engines spawn too quickly; one is defeated, and another immediately springs up, quickly depleting even the strongest firepower.
Other players report that there's no skill required to deal with Vox Engines; you just throw all your explosives and hope they hit.
Indeed, Vox Engines seem a bit too powerful at the moment. Perhaps the developers will make some adjustments in the next patch. Let's look forward to it. That's all for this episode of Helldivers 2. Have fun playing!
