The complete content of Path of Exile's latest 3.28 Mirage League is finally revealed to all players! Now you just need to wait until 11 AM PST on March 6th to start playing immediately. Doesn't time seem to be moving incredibly slow?
This update is massive, with a 40-minute trailer and an official patch notes that are long enough to circle Earth three times. Worried about missing important information? This guide will highlight the most important parts of this update. Let's take a look!
Season Mechanics
Mirage
This update introduces a brand new enemy faction, Afarud. You need to stop them from absorbing the energies of captured Djinn for their evil purposes.
Your mission is to team up with Varashta to defeat these evil Necromancers. Upon completion, Varashta will invite you to Astral Realm, which is Mirage, and grant you a wish.
Mirage is a mirror image of Astral Realm, but with differences. It includes imperfect replicas of your world, where defeating enemies yields double loot, but the enemies are also significantly more difficult.
Deep within the battle of Mirage lurks the new ultimate boss, Saresh, an undead force colluding with Afarud's machinations. Defeating Saresh will grant unique drops closely tied to the season theme, and the game will also reward the most dedicated players.
However, you can further enhance yourself before entering Mirage through Wishes. Wishes options offer various buffs, ranging from increased rewards to altered monster behavior, such as:
- Increasing rewards and monster difficulty
- Drops of special loot boxes or Currency
- Providing powerful Mystic Coins
This will demand greater strategic depth; you must constantly weigh the risks and rewards, as a moment's inattention could squander a golden opportunity.
Affixed Rewards
Besides Wish earned in Varashta, you can also obtain the following in Mirage:
- Afarud Unique items: Alternatives to Maraketh Weapons
- Coins of Restoration: Transform Afarud Unique items into true Maraketh counterparts
Map System
Map Atlas in Path of Exile version 3.28 will undergo one of the most impactful reworks in recent years. This is also the most exciting part of this update, as the developers will combine the strengths of maps from Path of Exile 1 and 2, completely overhauling the map system.
Structural Changes
After the update, you'll find Map Atlas divided into four regions, with a new Voidstone slot added to each corner. At the same time, the original map system based on map level progression has been replaced by a new layout mechanism.
Now, regardless of map level, you can freely choose the map layout. This change means you can grind from level 1 to 16 and easily complete Mesa map challenge, significantly simplifying the overall process of farming mobs.
If you've played Path of Exile 2, the new Map Atlas system will feel familiar. You can choose your own map layout and insert maps, and enhance them with Scarabs if needed, then activate portals to enter the map.
Unique Maps
All Unique Maps are now available in the map atlas. Completing a Unique Map earns skill points, up to a maximum of 10. There are likely many Unique Maps in Atlas, so you only need to complete the half you most want to complete.
Nightmare Maps
Tier 17 maps have been redesigned as Nightmare Maps, offering unique rewards and Atlas Skill Points. You can earn up to 5.
Fresh Skills and Classes
In addition to the significant changes to the season mechanics and maps, Mirage League 3.28 introduces a host of new skills and support systems.
New Skill Gems
Among the most anticipated additions are several brand-new Strength/Intelligence gems:
Holy Hammers: A slam skill that summons a chain of giant hammers upon hitting an enemy, each attack chaining damage to nearby enemies.
Divine Blast: Projects a beam of holy energy through a shield, causing a larger and more powerful explosive attack.
Holy Strike and Shield of Light: Used in melee combat, these gems lock onto and attack enemies.
In addition, there are various support gems, including Exceptional Support Gems, which will replace the existing Awakened Support Gems in patch 3.28, bringing transformative gameplay effects.
Class
Perhaps one of the most exciting additions is Scion's new class, Reliquarian Ascendancy. This class path draws inspiration from Scavenger Ascendancy and features entirely new passive nodes. Expect unusual affixes and build paths for plenty of experimentation.
If you want to dominate the battlefield when the game launches, you can now collect enough Path of Exile currency to craft a build specifically for this class.
Gameplay Experience
Path of Exile 3.28 Mirage League also brings some significant improvements, though not as eye-catching as Reliquarian Ascendancy, they greatly enhance the daily gameplay experience, including:
- Added Favorites and Stork access functionality
- Optimized shrine priority in crowded environments
- A more intuitive way to submit divination cards
Meanwhile, some crafting features in Genesis Tree have been deprecated, which will encourage you to focus on looting in the new version. It seems looting will be very rewarding in the new season.
It's clear that Path of Exile development team is still listening to community feedback and continuously improving the overall gameplay experience.
That's all for the highlights of Path of Exile 3.28 Mirage League. Now, let's just wait for March 6th! Have fun playing!
