How to Farm Efficiently in RuneScape Dragonwilds With Water, Compost, and XP Buffs

Learn how to level up Farming fast in RuneScape: Dragonwilds with the right plots, seeds, water, and compost. Discover ways to boost crop yields with Iron Secateurs, recover more seeds, and maximize Farming XP through efficient daily farming routines and buffs.

In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, farming seems simple on the surface: sow, water, wait, harvest. But beneath this seemingly calm exterior lies a system full of hidden attributes, plot-specific bonuses, and efficiency tips, all of which significantly impact your upgrade speed and yield.

This article is a farming guide for RS Dragonwilds to help you maximize resource acquisition.

RuneScape Dragonwilds Farming Guide to Faster Leveling and Maximum Crop Yields

Match Seed to Plot

The biggest reason for crop death or low yields is planting on the wrong plot. Each seed has a production area, and this production area determines which plot level it should be planted on. Planting Fellhollow seed on an Ash plot will significantly increase its disease rate and reduce your actual yield. The four plot levels and their corresponding seeds are as follows:

Ash Farming Plot (Brynmoor) is your initial primary farm, where you can plant Cabbage, Flax, Harralander, Marrentill, Potato, Redberry, and Wheat. These seeds appear earliest and are the most abundant, forming the main source of early farming experience points.

Oak Farming Plot (Ghornfell) offers more options, including Dwellberry, Kwuarm, Onion, Snapdragon, Swamp Weed, Toadflax, and Tomato. Here, farming becomes more strategic, as some seeds - especially Kwuarm and Snapdragon - are herb seeds that can be used to brew potions, thus providing additional value beyond experience points.

Willow Farming Plot (Fellhollow) unlocks Cadavaberry, Corpse Cotton, Irit, Pumpkin, and Watermelon. Pumpkins and watermelons have high maximum yields, making them ideal if you're farming for profit rather than simply for experience points, especially when using Compost Buckets and Iron Secateurs.

Yew Farming Plot (Umbral Sands) is a late-game addition, specializing in desert grasses and various cacti. Many mid-game RS Dragonwilds players may not need it yet.

Watering crops on an Ash plot grants 15 experience points per watering; Oak plots grant 30 experience points per watering; Willow plots grant 45 experience points per watering; and Yew plots grant 60 experience points per watering.

Hidden Water Mechanic

Most guides mention watering crops, but that's not comprehensive enough. The type of water is far more important than most players realize. Let me explain in detail.

Unwatered crops suffer a 0.8x disease multiplier - the worst-case scenario. Dirty water (from rivers, poured directly into the watering can) reduces the disease multiplier to 0.3x and increases yield by 1.15x. Clean water (from rainwater collectors, wells, or humidification spells) reduces the disease multiplier to 0.2x while maintaining the same yield bonus.

The difference between clean and dirty water isn't yield - it's disease resistance. Since disease is the primary threat to crop yields, clean water is clearly superior. Build rainwater harvesters as early as possible, or learn humidify spell as soon as it becomes available.

Rainwater will automatically provide clean water to your fields, but it's important to note that it doesn't provide experience points or cure diseases. Manually watering using a watering can (or humidifier) remains essential for gaining experience points and controlling diseases.

Furthermore, there's a crucial detail: watering plants that are already harvestable, diseased, dead, or newly planted only provides 2 experience points; the real experience points come from watering growing crops. So remember to check your fields every morning after waking up during game time and water any crops that are still growing.

Compost

In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, compost has two functions: reducing the chance of disease and increasing yield. Regular compost reduces the chance of disease by 0.5x and increases yield by 1.5x. Super compost reduces the chance of disease by 0.25x and increases yield by 1.75x.

More importantly, compost increases the chances of recovering seeds from harvested crops, allowing you to keep your farm running without constantly foraging for seeds from the wild.

Compost Buckets can accept almost any organic matter - burnt food, weeds, excess fish, cooked meat, and more.

The key is when to use compost. A plot of land only needs to be fertilized once per growing cycle until it is fully harvested and cleared; there's no need to re-fertilize after each stage.

However, only the last fifth of Compost Bucket's supply truly provides experience, so keep this in mind when managing your compost supply.

RuneScape Dragonwilds Farming Guide

Iron Secateurs

Choosing the right RS Dragonwilds items can improve harvesting efficiency and increase resource gathering. After level 42, you will unlock Iron Secateurs. Equipping iron pruning shears and using the normal harvest option will grant a 1.25x bonus to yield per harvest. This means a direct 25% increase in crop yield, resulting in more experience, seeds, and cooking ingredients.

However, note that Iron Secateurs cannot be used in conjunction with Uproot spell. Uproot (and its upgraded version, Harvester) can harvest crops within a certain radius, making it convenient to quickly clear large areas of farmland. However, doing so will sacrifice yield multipliers.

If you are farming for resources or experience points, equip pruning shears and harvest manually. Only use Uproot if you truly don't care about the extra yield.

A Practical Daily Routine

Plant crops on all farmland, cast Humidify to water all crops in a straight line, then sleep to promote growth. Crops will be half-grown by the end of the first night and fully mature by the end of the second night, meaning you can rotate between two sets of farmland and harvest crops every game day.

For players who haven't yet unlocked Humidify spell or built large farmlands in RS Dragonwilds, berry planting is another viable alternative. Redberry and Cadavaberry are relatively easy to plant, seeds are common, and harvest cycles are short, allowing you to rotate planting while training other skills nearby.

However, the real benefit lies in the stacking experience bonus. Inspiring Rings of Farming provide a fixed +5% farming experience bonus, while Focused Farming potions offer a +15% (lower level) or +30% (standard) experience bonus, and these bonuses stack with food buffs, such as Knowledgable Nourishment.

This concludes this article on farming in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Build suitable plots, store clean water, compost all crops, choose appropriate seeds based on the region, and stack buffs before harvesting. By doing these things, your farming skills will almost automatically improve while you're busy with other game activities.
