WARDOGS Thermal Binoculars + .50 Cal Recon Guide: Why This Long-Range Combo Is So Powerful?

WARDOGS has been live for less than two weeks, but its popularity has already far exceeded the development team's original expectations. The developers initially expected the game to reach a peak concurrent player count of around 40,000 to 50,000 during launch, but the peak on Sunday after launch directly reached 428,000 players. 

This launch has also made upcoming WARDOGS Early Access updates a major focus. Progression Wipe, Trait System, Black Market, Wager System, and other features will gradually enter the development plan.

How WARDOGS will be updated next and which systems could change the current meta are the parts of Early Access that are really worth watching.

Update Schedule

WARDOGS is currently in Early Access Season 1, which has been confirmed to last only one month. Season 2 will arrive soon. After that, Season 2, Season 3, and Season 4 will not follow a fixed schedule. Their length will depend on development progress and when new features are ready.

Season system in WARDOGS is also different from the fixed-season model used by traditional FPS games. The development team is more focused on whether new systems and features are complete and whether they can change the way the game is played.

If WARDOGS is preparing to add an important new system, the current season may end earlier, and some of your progress may be reset.

During Early Access, WARDOGS development team will not maintain the high-frequency content update schedule seen in other major FPS games. The core gameplay and performance are already relatively stable. Aside from the server issues on launch day, the overall performance has already reached a fairly mature state.

For the next period, WARDOGS will focus on core systems, balance, bug fixes, and improving meta game, while also adding smaller content updates. After 1.0 officially launches, the game will gradually move toward a more stable content update model.

Progression Wipe

After a season ends, WARDOGS will conduct a progression wipe. Your current level and role progression will be cleared, while some weapons, attachments, vehicles, and other content will be locked again. All players will need to start over.

However, not everything will be reset. WARDOGS development team has confirmed that some content will remain persistent and be saved directly to your account. Some necessary items will remain unlocked and can be obtained using WARDOGS cash earned in the new season.

The main purpose of Progression Wipe is to allow WARDOGS development team to adjust progression order for each season, place new weapons, vehicles, and other equipment at different levels, and temporarily remove some older content from the progression system.

This means Progression itself can change based on actual player data. Which equipment is being used heavily and which parts of the unlock order have problems could all affect the next season's setup.

For example, the current unlock timing for Armor and Armor Penetration Rounds in WARDOGS is already a relatively obvious issue. You can currently obtain Level 3 and Level 4 armor fairly early, while the corresponding armor penetration rounds are unlocked much later.

This can easily lead to situations where large numbers of players have high-level armor but do not have enough ammunition with sufficient penetration. If the development team adjusts the unlock positions of the two, the current WARDOGS meta could change as well.

Trait System

WARDOGS is preparing to introduce Trait System, which can also be understood as a Skill Point Tree. You will earn Skill Points through XP and invest them into different skill trees. The current system is still in development, so the names and effects may continue to change.

Based on the content currently shown, different roles have their own trait trees. Skill points can be assigned according to different playstyles, with options focused on weapon switching, focus, movement, and stamina, creating greater differences between playstyles.

WARDOGS Recon Tree already includes options such as Weapon Switch Speed, Focus Time, Vertical Recoil, Horizontal Recoil, Enemy Spot Duration, Melee Damage, Reload Speed, Time to ADS, and ADS Movement Speed.

WARDOGS Infantry Tree includes skills such as SMG Weapon Switch Speed, Tactical Sprint Stamina Cost, Weight Movement Penalty, and Sprint Stamina Regeneration.

If the system is eventually added to WARDOGS in its current form, each Season's Progression Wipe will also affect Trait System. Starting over at the end of a season can allow new players and players with a large amount of accumulated experience to return to a relatively similar starting point.

Meta Features

Besides Trait System, WARDOGS is also testing other meta features. One system already shown is related to lockpicking. A future trait may allow players to directly pick open enemy buildable doors.

Currently, opening these doors usually requires a crowbar, or you can use C4 to blow them open. Lockpicking could reduce the amount of noise generated, giving players another way to enter enemy areas while staying stealthy.

Stash System will also continue to expand, while Black Market is also in development. You will invest WARDOGS cash into investing and crafting equipment, then bring it into the next match.

Another particularly interesting system is Wager System. You can place a wager on a specific objective in a match, and successfully completing that action will reward you. This system will give regular WARDOGS matches new objectives and could also create more unexpected situations during an ongoing fight.

WARDOGS has already developed several popular meta strategies, such as heavily using machine gun Humvees and deploying multiple Drills at the base to control Hot Zones. After Season 2 adds new progression, Trait System, and meta features, the equipment unlock order and existing meta could change, and these popular strategies may change with them.

WARDOGS 1.0 is still a long way away, while console support is not expected until 2028. At this stage, Early Access is more like an ongoing development process where the game environment will continue to change through season transitions, progression wipes, and balance changes. 

For players who have already joined, every upcoming season could bring a new set of strategies and a different pace of play.

With WARDOGS' large-scale battles, it is easy to focus solely on Combat Zone and Hot Zone, following the main force to capture points and engage in firefights.

However, even small squads - or solo players - can influence the entire match by shifting Hot Zone, ambushing transport routes, cutting off logistics, and attacking high-value vehicles.

This is especially true in the early stages before long-range countermeasures like Mortars and Artillery become widespread; deployments hidden on the flanks or in the rear are often much harder for the enemy to deal with.

Control Hot Zone with Drills

Constructible Drill allows you to shift Hot Zone to a designated location. If your team sets up defenses there in advance, the enemy is forced to adjust their attack vector.

Deployment requires an FOB, a Big Hammer, Supplies, and Fuel.

During the testing phase, the construction resources provided by FOB itself were insufficient to complete a Drill; therefore, a Ural truck could be used to transport both Supply and Fuel pallets simultaneously. When unloading, ensure the pallets are placed within FOB's build radius.

Ideally, place Drill in a location that is easy for your team to reinforce but difficult for the enemy to spot immediately. 

If resources and Wardogs cash allow, two or three players can deploy multiple Drills, taking turns shifting Hot Zone to a more advantageous side.

As Mortars and Artillery become more common, exposed Drills are easily destroyed, making site selection and defense crucial in the late game.

Anti-Air Ambushes

Helicopters usually follow relatively fixed routes when traveling from their base to Combat Zone, making it possible to deploy anti-air positions near these flight paths.

For static ambushes, you can use Talon SAM Site. During testing, the supplies included with a new FOB were sufficient to cover its construction costs, allowing Ural truck to focus on carrying Ammo Pallets. 

When selecting a site, ensure a clear line of sight; the edge of a forest is often better than hiding deep within the trees.

Shooting down several helicopters in a row not only disrupts enemy transport but also offers a chance to recoup the invested Wardogs cash - though it often draws enemy fire aimed at locating SAM site.

Once a static position is compromised, you can switch to using a Kodiak vehicle equipped with multiple disposable Verber Anti-Air Launchers. 

Relocating immediately after an attack and setting a new ambush based on the enemy's altered flight path helps minimize the risk of retaliation. 

Mobile RPG Ambushes

RPG rockets take up significant space in a Wardogs backpack, but Kodiak vehicle can transport extra ammunition, allowing a solo player or a two-person squad to sustain ambushes for longer periods.

Roads, bridges, and mountain passes connecting the enemy base to the combat zone are ideal ambush sites. While the light Kodiak is easier to destroy, Ural truck often requires multiple consecutive hits; therefore, it is best to prepare sufficient ammunition and an escape route before opening fire.

RPG reloading can be interrupted by actions like sprinting - something to keep in mind, especially during close-quarters engagements.

If the target shifts to infantry just entering the front lines, a two-person squad can use Kodiaks or Humvees equipped with M249s or Miniguns to strike reinforcements or players deploying FOBs during the early game. However, the risk associated with this tactic rises rapidly as tanks, spotters, and static defenses appear.

Disrupt Enemy Logistics

While the combat zone layout changes each match, bridges, highways, and narrow passages remain largely fixed. By observing the routes enemies take from their base to the front line at the start of the match, you can identify bottlenecks suitable for disrupting transport.

Hedgehog tank traps can block bridges or narrow roads, forcing vehicles to stop, detour, or wait for the obstacle to be cleared. Players can also remain nearby to ambush the slowed vehicles with RPGs.

As progression advances, one could theoretically combine tank traps with anti-tank (AT) mines, though information regarding AT mines remains limited during the current Wardogs testing phase. 

In the early stages, IEDs can be used, though they require the player to stay nearby for manual detonation, demanding precise timing.

Even without racking up a high kill count, repeatedly blocking key transport routes hinders the flow of supplies, reinforcements, and resources for FOB construction to the front line.

Stingray UAV Strikes

A single deployment of Stingray consumes a significant amount of Wardogs cash and mechanical supplies, making it best reserved for high-value targets like tanks or spawn vehicles. 

Because it requires an FOB, a Big Hammer, and mechanical supplies - resulting in a high cost per use - it should not be wasted on ordinary infantry.

Stingray is a fixed-wing UAV with a wide turning radius. A reliable approach is to mark the target with a map ping first, then adjust your flight path from the periphery before closing in. 

There is no need to place FOB used to launch Stingrays in the center of Combat Zone; deploying it on the periphery allows for greater maneuvering room while reducing the likelihood of the position being detected.

Stationary tanks or those currently engaged in combat are easier targets, as are newly spawned vehicles. High-speed helicopters are difficult to track, making Stingray unsuitable as a primary anti-air weapon.

The value of such squad-based harassment tactics extends beyond mere kill counts. Whenever enemy forces are compelled to divert personnel to clear obstacles, search for FOB, or secure supply lines, their capacity to engage on the main front is correspondingly diminished.

In WARDOGS, FOB serves as a crucial hub for frontline resupply, defense, and fire support. Players can establish defensive lines around it and gradually add facilities such as Mortars, AA systems, and Drill Rigs.

The effectiveness of an FOB depends largely on its location and defensive layout. A base with a strategic location and smooth supply lines is easier to maintain in the long run and provides more stable support to teammates.

Since an FOB cannot be moved once placed, it is best to assess natural cover, fields of fire, vehicle routes, and likely enemy approach vectors before construction begins.

Hammer Types

Wardogs construction system revolves around three types of hammers; the facilities available and their intended uses vary significantly depending on the hammer tier.

Small Hammer is primarily used for basic defenses such as Hedgehogs, Barbed Wire, Sandbag Walls, and Hesco barriers.

Medium Hammer adds Doors, Gates, and Hesco Walls, allowing for the construction of a fully enclosed FOB.

Large Hammer provides advanced facilities like Recon Towers, Bunkers, and Brema Walls, serving as the primary tool for late-game Mega FOB construction. However, it also implies a greater investment of time, supplies, and Wardogs cash to keep the base operational.

FOB Location

Large structures such as Churches, Towers, Factories, Apartment complexes, and Stadiums are excellent choices in Wardogs.

Utilizing existing walls and roofs saves Build Supplies and reduces the construction burden; it also lowers the risk of direct hits from threats like Mortars, thereby preventing unnecessary losses of resources and Wardogs cash.

A Mega FOB is best situated closer to your team's spawn point to facilitate reinforcements and supply transport. 

When operating a solo Mortar FOB or AA FOB, you might choose the edge of a forest, a small courtyard, or a secluded spot - provided you maintain a clear field of fire. Excessively dense tree cover can hinder the effectiveness of Mortars and anti-air systems.

Consequently, FOBs fall into three categories: Mega FOBs, suitable for long-term operation by a team; Mortar FOBs, responsible for long-range suppression; and AA FOBs, which utilize systems like Talon, C-Wiz, and Stingray to counter enemy air units. 

Perimeter Defense

In Wardogs, a single layer of Hesco barriers or Brema walls can easily be vaulted over using a vehicle as a step-up; they also offer little protection against grenades, C4, or fire from elevated positions.

A more secure approach is to place Hesco barriers behind the outer Brema layer and use them to elevate a second layer of Brema walls. 

You can also place Hedgehogs (anti-tank obstacles) along the perimeter to prevent tanks and trucks from getting close to the wall, thereby reducing the chance of enemies using vehicles to vault over.

If the terrain prevents walls from snapping into place correctly, disable the snapping feature and make manual micro-adjustments; avoid leaving obvious gaps just to bypass obstacles. No matter how thick FOB's defensive line is, if there is a single corner where enemies can vault directly inside, the entire perimeter is compromised.

Entrance Defense

For vehicle entrances, use a configuration consisting of an outer gate, a buffer zone, and an inner gate. Logistics vehicles can unload in the middle zone; this ensures that even if enemies in Wardogs breach the first gate, they cannot immediately enter the base interior.

Infantry entrances can also utilize a double-door airlock system to trap enemies in a confined space. You can position Recon Tower's ladder facing outward and use Hesco barriers, doors, and Brema walls to restrict movement paths, creating a kill box that is easy to defend.

Base Compartmentalization

Do not cluster FOB Core, spawn vehicle, Drill Rig, mortar, and AA defenses in the same area. Use Wardogs walls, shelters, and doors to create distinct zones, forcing enemies to breach additional defensive lines after entering the base.

The spawn vehicle requires special protection. Use two Indirect Fire Shelters to provide overhead cover, and position the vehicle away from main entrances and weak points in the perimeter to prevent a single enemy breach from simultaneously threatening both the spawn point and FOB.

Drill Rig Setup

In Wardogs, Drill Rig consumes fuel supplies to draw Hot Zone toward FOB.

Testing indicates that activation requires at least 1,200 fuel supplies, while around 6,000 fuel allows for a significantly longer operating time. Each Drill Rig has an independent cooldown; therefore, large FOBs can set up multiple rigs and activate them sequentially to extend Hot Zone's duration when fuel supplies permit.

However, it is best to construct Drill Rigs only after the defensive lines are largely complete. If you commit significant amounts of Fuel, Build Supplies, and Wardogs cash before the entrance, FOB Core, and Spawn Vehicle are properly secured, any surprise attack could result in substantial losses.

Wardogs bases prioritize speed and practicality; there is no need to aim for perfect neatness.

Once the perimeter walls are complete, check whether vehicles can park flush against them, if there are nearby objects that could facilitate climbing over, if Spawn Vehicle is exposed, and whether the firing arcs of Mortars and AA emplacements are obstructed by trees or structures.

WARDOGS has a large-scale battlefield, and when you first enter the game, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the map, Hill, Hot Zone, and complicated loadouts.

Especially since you need to configure your equipment again every time you respawn, it is easy to waste your Wardogs cash on unnecessary gear if you are unfamiliar with the gameplay.

This guide will quickly explain the basic gameplay of WARDOGS and what beginners should prioritize after entering the battlefield.

Hot Zone

The core gameplay of WARDOGS can be understood as a large-scale King of the Hill mode. When you open the map, the huge circular area in the center is Hill. Whichever team has more surviving players inside Hill will continuously earn points. The number of surviving players on both teams displayed in the bottom-left corner of the map can help you determine which team currently controls Hill.

The team controlling Hill earns approximately 1 point every 30 seconds, and the first team to reach 100 points wins. Keep in mind that Hill scoring is based on the number of surviving players inside the area, rather than simply who enters the area first.

There is also a smaller golden circle inside Hill called Hot Zone. Players standing inside Hot Zone count as two players when determining Hill control, while also earning double Wardogs cash rewards. Because of this, Hot Zone is usually the most contested area on the map, so you need to pay close attention to enemies nearby.

Hot Zone can move around the map, but you can actively change its location in two ways. The first is by using an oil rig, also called a tower, on WARDOGS map.

After entering the tower, follow the stairs to the control room, where you will find several monitors. Interact with a monitor and hack it to obtain a number. Each tower corresponds to a different number. After collecting the numbers, you can enter the code on the keypad nearby.

Once the correct code is entered, Hot Zone will gradually move toward that tower and remain there for several minutes before randomly moving again.

You do not need to hack every tower before entering the code. Once you have some of the numbers, you can also try to guess the rest. After entering the wrong code three times in a row, the console will temporarily lock and become available again after approximately one minute.

The other method is to build a drill rig at your own FOB. It is essentially a smaller version of an oil rig that can pull Hot Zone toward your FOB. In WARDOGS, building a drill rig requires Big Hammer, which is unlocked at Support Level 8.

After building drill rig, your FOB also needs Fuel Supplies. Fuel can be obtained from your team's Spawn Area and carried by teammates to the base where drill rig has been built. Once fuel is supplied, you can activate drill rig to pull Hot Zone toward FOB, making it easier for your team to defend and attack around the objective.

Loadout

Loadouts need to be configured again at Vendor in Spawn Area after each respawn, using WARDOGS cash. Early on, you can simply use the free Pouch Backpack and Bushmaster.

Pouch Backpack has limited capacity but costs nothing, while Bushmaster is a free Assault Rifle with an average performance that is useful for getting familiar with the weapons and combat rhythm.

Remember to prepare ammunition before entering a WARDOGS match. Select standard magazine and the corresponding Ammo Type, then click Mag Ready on the right to place the magazine into your backpack. If you need more ammunition, you can add more magazines or choose loose ammo.

Four 30-round magazines take up quite a lot of space, while one stack of loose ammo can hold 80 rounds, making it more suitable for backpacks with limited capacity.

As you level up in WARDOGS, you can unlock better weapons and weapon attachments, including scopes and grips that improve recoil control. Bushmaster cannot equip these attachments, so you can simply use it as a temporary weapon early on.

A sidearm is not essential. When you have limited WARDOGS cash, you can skip it for now, as you can pick up plenty of free sidearms from downed enemies after entering a match.

Helmets and armor can improve your survivability. Tac vests do not provide armor, but they can improve weapon equip and reload speed while increasing the number of Quick Slots. Quick Slots are located in the bottom-right corner of HUD and allow you to use items from your backpack directly.

Early on, beginners can temporarily skip helmets, armor, and vests and prioritize weapons, ammunition, and healing items instead. For healing, it is recommended to carry five bandages. If you plan to play as a Medic, you can choose Emergency Resuscitator to quickly revive downed teammates.

Specialist Item

Specialist items should be chosen based on your playstyle. If you enjoy building bases in WARDOGS, you can bring a small hammer. Otherwise, binoculars are a good choice.

Binoculars can be used not only to observe the battlefield but also to mark enemies. When using them, keep your crosshair on an enemy for a short period, and a colored marker will gradually appear around them. Once the mark is completed, the enemy will appear on your and your teammates' map and mini map. The enemy can remain tracked for a period even after moving.

If a marked enemy is subsequently killed in WARDOGS, you can receive an Assist Credit as well as cash and Recon XP. Even without getting the kill yourself, you can still earn rewards through reconnaissance.

This is especially useful when enemies jump from a helicopter. You can use binoculars to mark them while they are still in the air, allowing your teammates to start focusing fire before they land.

When you first start playing WARDOGS, there is no need to immediately learn every weapon and piece of equipment. First, get familiar with how Hill scoring works, then learn how to control the position of Hot Zone, and you will be able to keep up with your team. 

For your loadout, try to keep costs under control and spend your Wardogs cash on equipment that is actually useful. As your level and funds increase, you can gradually upgrade to better weapons, armor, and attachments.

During WARDOGS Early Access phase, getting familiar with helicopter controls can be a useful skill. Since many players have not unlocked equipment such as Stingers and RPGs yet, using a helicopter for transportation is relatively safe. It's also a fairly easy way to earn cash.

You can start by practicing how to fly a helicopter, transporting teammates from the spawn point to Hot Zone or Control Zone, then bringing them back from the battlefield.

EZG will start with Settings and cover the basic helicopter controls in Wardogs, including how to control altitude and land safely without flipping the helicopter or hitting obstacles.

Settings

Mouse

WARDOGS currently does not have a separate Vehicle Sensitivity slider, so Mouse Sensitivity also affects the helicopter. A basic mouse sensitivity setting of 0.55 with a mouse DPI of 1,600 is recommended.

For Vehicle section, Free Look Sensitivities can stay at 100, while Air Vehicle Multiplier can stay at 1. If the helicopter feels too slow, you can increase this value slightly. If the movement feels too fast or too floaty, lower it.

Rotary vehicle mouse control is also important. When enabled, moving the mouse left and right controls roll, while moving it up and down controls pitch. If you prefer, you can also use Rifle Aim, which makes the mouse control Yaw horizontally and Pitch vertically.

Helicopter Mouse Pitch and Roll Sensitivity are recommended at 50%, while Helicopter Mouse Axis Isolation can stay at 0%. With Invert Y Axis enabled in Wardogs, helicopter controls feel more like a joystick. Pushing the mouse forward gives you Pitch Down, while pulling it back gives you Pitch Up.

Flight Assists

WARDOGS Flight Assists are beginner-friendly. Stability Assist reduces changes in pitch, roll, and yaw, making the helicopter more stable. Turning it off gives you more freedom with manual controls, but you also have to handle more of the control yourself.

Envelope limits restrict extreme pitch, yaw, and collective inputs, keeping the helicopter within a safer flight range. When you are just learning, it is better to keep these assists enabled. Once you become familiar with the basic flight controls in Wardogs, you can gradually turn them off and practice full manual control.

Key Bindings

In Rotary Vehicle Key Binds, Collective Raise and Collective Lower can be set to W/S. Yaw Left/Yaw Right can be assigned to A/D. Some less frequently used Helicopter controls can be bound to keys such as F6, F7, F8, and F9, which are less likely to interfere with other major Wardogs controls.

Cyclic Y can be assigned according to your personal preference. If you often perform barrel rolls, you can put it on the spacebar. If you do not need it, assign it to another key that is rarely used in Wardogs. Activate Counter Measure can be set to X, making it easy to press quickly during flight.

Flight Indicators

The flight indicators at the bottom of WARDOGS screen are also worth understanding. The vertical line mainly shows pitch, helping you judge the current attitude of the helicopter, while the thinner horizontal line shows roll.

The arrows on both sides represent changes in altitude. When the helicopter tilts forward, the arrows will point noticeably downward if it is rapidly losing altitude. 

When you pull the helicopter back, the altitude increases quickly and the arrows point upward. These indicators may be difficult to understand at first, but after a few flights, their meaning will become much clearer.

Takeoff

After getting a helicopter from the vendor in Wardogs, open the menu and select Start Engine, or simply press W to start the engine. The engine takes a little time to start, so do not rush to take off before the helicopter reaches full rotor speed.

Once it is ready, hold W to climb, while S makes the helicopter descend. The mouse controls Roll horizontally and Pitch vertically, while A/D controls Yaw. Flying a WARDOGS Helicopter relies heavily on momentum.

If you need to gain altitude quickly, pull the helicopter backward. This will sacrifice some speed, but the altitude will increase rapidly. Once you reach the required altitude, bring the helicopter back to a level position.

If you want to lose altitude, hold S while pushing the helicopter forward. This also allows you to use the rotor to increase forward speed. When you are first practicing, do not rush. Spend some time flying in the air and getting familiar with momentum. Once you understand how it feels, controlling Wardogs Helicopter becomes much easier.

Flight Tips

Low-altitude flight is very important in actual Wardogs matches. Once the enemy has RPGs, Stingers, or other anti-air equipment, flying at high altitude can easily expose your position.

WARDOGS has an Under Radar mechanic. When the helicopter flies close enough to the terrain, enemies cannot lock onto it. The exact altitude takes some practice to learn, so you can start by testing this mechanic in the test range.

Wardogs Helicopter relies heavily on Roll. When rolling right, you can combine it with right yaw to change direction quickly. With a large roll, you can even make a turn approaching 180° very quickly.

Compared with more arcade-style flight games, Wardogs requires you to become more familiar with roll. If you have played Arma before, these helicopter controls may feel easier to understand.

If you are just starting to fly a helicopter in actual matches, crashing into trees, buildings, or even flipping over is completely normal. You can use Wardogs cash to get a Spanner in advance, allowing you to repair the Helicopter quickly after it takes damage. 

If the helicopter flips over, you can use Reposition Helicopter in F Menu to try to recover it, then repair the rotor afterward.

The riverbed in WARDOGS Test Range is a good place to practice helicopter flight. You can follow the riverbed, gradually lower your altitude, and then try flying underneath bridges to get familiar with pitch, roll, and yaw at low altitude. 

Even if you crash, it does not matter. Press Escape, select Return to Spawn, spawn another helicopter, and continue practicing.

Landing

Once you enter a Wardogs Control Zone, landing can easily become one of the most troublesome parts. When you are around 1,000 meters from your destination, you can start reducing speed and adjusting your altitude. Hold S while slightly pulling the helicopter backward to quickly bleed off horizontal momentum.

After finding a landing zone, gently tap S to adjust your altitude and slowly descend. When landing a helicopter in WARDOGS, carrying some forward momentum into the landing usually does not cause major problems, as the direction of the landing gear helps keep the helicopter stable.

However, landing sideways can easily cause the helicopter to flip. Helicopter crashes are common around spawn points, especially when heading toward a Wardogs Control Zone. If you fail to correct roll and yaw during the descent, the rotor can also hit nearby buildings or trees.

If the helicopter keeps swaying from side to side while descending, do not rush the landing. Take a few extra seconds to adjust roll, then use yaw to correct the direction and keep the helicopter facing forward as much as possible when it touches down.

Helicopters don't always need to land completely on the ground. If you hover at a low altitude close to the ground, passengers can still safely exit and complete the transport to earn WARDOGS Cash. In areas with difficult terrain, there's no need to force a full landing just to pull off a perfect landing.

For players just getting started with WARDOGS Helicopter, flying fast should not be the first goal. Being able to take off steadily, control your speed, fly close to the terrain, and safely transport teammates to their destination are the most important skills for a reliable helicopter pilot. After enough practice, you will find that controlling the helicopter is not as difficult as it first seems.

WARDOGS battlefield is contested by three main factions, each with its own lore and visual identity. When new players first encounter the faction system, a common question arises: does choosing a specific faction directly impact weapons, vehicles, or even a character's combat capabilities?

In the current Early Access build, faction-based restrictions on combat styles are not as rigid as one might expect. WARDOGS emphasizes player agency - allowing you to get gear, allocate funds, and determine your battlefield role - while the faction choice primarily dictates which side you represent in the conflict.

Before deciding which faction suits you best, it is important to distinguish between faction lore and actual gameplay mechanics.

Faction System

WARDOGS supports up to 100 players in core combat, with Lonestar, Valkyra, and Manticore vying for control of zones on the map. The faction that maintains a numerical advantage in a target zone steadily accumulates points, and the first to meet the victory conditions wins the match.

However, these three factions do not correspond to a traditional class system. The game utilizes player-defined roles; players use WARDOGS cash to get firearms, equipment, and specialized tools, deciding which mission to undertake for that specific life.

Some players might charge into a control zone with a rifle for direct combat, while others choose to heal downed teammates, transport players in vehicles, or invest in specialized gear.

Character roles shift based on loadouts and battlefield needs rather than being locked in by the faction you join.

Therefore, while Lonestar, Valkyra, and Manticore differ clearly in lore and identity, any gameplay differences should be viewed with nuance, making their individual faction identities the better place to start.

Lonestar

Lonestar is portrayed as the heavy hitter of Western paramilitary world and is the faction that most closely resembles modern Western paramilitary organizations.

Its overall design evokes images of private military contractors (PMCs), modern mercenaries, and professional armed forces.

If you appreciate PMCs, modern Western military gear, and a straightforward paramilitary aesthetic, Lonestar is a faction that offers a highly immersive experience. However, heavy-hitters are currently best viewed as part of a faction's overall image.

This label does not automatically equate to higher damage, stronger armor, or a guaranteed advantage in heavy firepower; Lonestar players must still determine their specific roles based on their equipment, WARDOGS cash, and the demands of the battlefield.

Valkyra

Valkyra's faction identity is directly linked to Soviet People's Republic, with the goal of restoring that regime to its former status.

This background imbues Valkyra with distinct Soviet-style political and military imagery, creating a sharp contrast to Lonestar's Western paramilitary aesthetic.

Players who appreciate Soviet military hardware and Eastern European military aesthetics - or who prefer a faction with a strong political identity - will probably find Valkyra appealing.

However, the lore does not automatically restrict loadouts. Under current Early Access rules, there is no requirement for Valkyra players to limit themselves to specific types of firearms or vehicles simply because of the faction's Soviet roots.

Manticore

Manticore is linked to Kingdom of Persia and is described as Tehran's shadow army.

Compared to Lonestar and Valkyra, Manticore's identity is more enigmatic. This setup evokes the image of an armed force operating outside conventional military structures, giving the faction a highly distinctive profile among the three in WARDOGS.

If you are interested in Persian themes, covert military forces, or unique faction concepts, Manticore may hold more appeal than the other two options.

However, the shadow army description is primarily a narrative element. It does not directly translate to stealth mechanics, nor is there any indication that Manticore players receive inherent bonuses for stealth, reconnaissance, movement speed, or other forms of concealment.

Faction Differences

When comparing the three factions, the differences are actually simpler than the names might suggest.

The situation changes once combat begins, however; within the game, character roles are determined by the players themselves. Decisions such as which weapons to get, how to allocate WARDOGS cash, whether to deploy vehicles, and whether to carry medical or other specialized gear have a more direct impact on actual gameplay than the faction name itself.

Currently, there is insufficient evidence to suggest that Lonestar, Valkyra, and Manticore possess entirely distinct arsenals, vehicle pools, or fixed combat bonuses.

Even if certain weapons or cosmetics feature distinct faction branding, this does not necessarily imply that the equipment is exclusive to a specific faction.

Consequently, it is difficult to establish a definitive meta tier list based on faction strength. Battlefield performance is largely determined by loadouts, resource allocation, the location of objective zones, vehicle deployment, and team coordination.

A player who utilizes inexpensive gear but consistently holds control zones, heals teammates, or handles transport can easily contribute more than a player who spends heavily on expensive weaponry yet fails to participate in objective contention.

As Early Access progresses, the development team may well expand upon faction-specific content. Should faction-specific equipment, missions, or other distinct mechanics be introduced in the future, the gameplay differences between the three factions could widen.

However, in the current Early Access build, there is no clear best choice among Lonestar, Valkyra, and Manticore. Join the faction whose military aesthetic and lore appeal to you most. For WARDOGS right now, your choice of faction defines who you fight for rather than how you fight.
