The eagerly awaiting Raiders have finally received their first major update of the new year, with the studio releasing patch 1.13.0 on January 27th.

This patch update incorporates brand-new systems, improvements to the gameplay experience, map evolution, innovative PvP modes, and a series of significant balance adjustments aimed at changing how solo and squad players participate in expeditions.

ARC Raiders 1.13.0 Patch Overview | Explicit and Hidden Changes in Headwinds

To help you better understand the changes this patch brings to players, I will now introduce the major changes in Headwinds patch.

New PvP system

One of the most impactful competitive additions is the new Solo vs Squads matchmaking option. Once you reach level 40, you can enable this mode before queuing, giving solo players the opportunity to battle against duos, trios, or even full squads.

The reward for players is a 20% experience bonus at the end of each round, regardless of whether you win or lose.

This new content encourages skilled solo players to push their PvP limits and earn greater progress rewards.

However, it also brings some controversy. While the extra experience points accelerate character growth, encountering well-coordinated teams remains daunting for many players who aren't skilled in pure PvP.

Trophy Display

Patch 1.13.0 introduced Trophy Display feature, a new long-term progression project where players collect ARC parts from increasingly dangerous enemies to unlock rewards.

It can be seen as a combination of community goals and personal milestones: completing each stage adds new items to your display and unlocks blueprints, Raider Tokens, unique cosmetics, a guitar, and 300,000 coins.

Unlike Expedition-based progression system, Trophy Display does not reset with future Expedition cycles, meaning that resources invested here will yield long-term benefits.

Buried City map evolution

This update doesn't introduce a new map, but rather a new state within the existing Buried City map.

Flocks of birds migrate here, nesting in the empty chimneys scattered across the rooftops. These nests now serve as containers for gadgets and loot.

This move is likely intended to encourage vertical exploration and rooftop combat, which were previously uncommon.

In addition to these nests, you'll encounter more ziplines, more raiders, and more flying ARC threats. This weekly rotating map state reshapes Buried City into a more dynamic and intense area, especially in the mid-game.

New Epic Augments

Patch 1.13.0 adds two new epic augmentations, providing players with more options for customizing their gear:

  • Looting Mk. 3 (Safekeeper): This augmentation stores any item (including weapons) in its unique safe pocket, protecting high-value gear during chaotic battles or extended looting sessions.
  • Tactical Mk. 3 (Revival): A new reusable Integrated Defibrillator with a cooldown and some passive healing effects has been added, suitable for players who need higher survivability or team support options.

Both Augments expand strategic gameplay, but they sacrifice some equipment slots or buffs for practicality, so the choice largely depends on your character role and playstyle.

New missions and gameplay optimizations

Seven new missions have been added to the game, bringing players new storylines and gameplay challenges. Completing missions will also reward players with cosmetic items.

The following are all the new missions added in Headwinds patch:

  • Combat Recon
  • A Prime Specimen
  • On Deaf Ears
  • The League
  • With A View
  • On the Map
  • Bombing Run

In addition, the game's party system has received some useful improvements:

  • "Open Parties" option allows friends to join a party without an invitation;
  • Party members (not just the leader) can invite players to join their party.

Other important gameplay optimization patches include controller button rebinding, achievement fixes, and a mouse smoothing option to allow players to adjust input responsiveness.

ARC enemy optimizations

The studio optimized the behavior of ARC machine enemies in the game, balancing fairness and smoothness.

ARCs can now traverse obstacles more reliably, and Leapers can still move after losing their legs, increasing their threat to players.

Improvements have also been made to Shredder's item tagging, Snitch's behavior, Spotter's pathfinding, and Tick's mechanics.

These adjustments may seem minor, but they effectively address many frustrating extreme situations in raid combat, reduce unexpected AI flaws, and provide players with a smoother experience in PvE battles.

Anti-Cheat and Bug fixes

Regarding the persistent cheating issues in ARC Raiders, the developers have introduced a new three-strikes progressive ban system to strengthen anti-cheat measures: repeat offenders will have their bans gradually extended from 30 days to permanent.

Meanwhile, regarding the various maps in the game, in addition to making various improvements, the official team also fixed exploits that could be used for cheating, preventing blatant malicious behavior by cheaters.

These improvements are crucial for maintaining a fair competitive environment among players and curbing actions that attempt to disrupt game progress and community trust.

Hidden changes

Besides the officially announced updates, players have discovered some undocumented changes:

Pickup Speed

Compared to the previous fast pickup speed, the pickup speed has been reduced after the patch update, sparking discussion about whether this was intentional or a fix for previous speed anomalies.

Item Drops

Many players have noticed a decrease in the number of container types that generate specific blueprints during raids in different map states, a change they dislike.

However, one positive aspect is the increased drop rate of high-level weapons from weapon crates. When you open a weapon crate, it's no longer just green weapons; the probability of obtaining rare weapons has increased.

The above summarizes the key points of ARC Raiders 1.13.0 patch update. In any case, the first major patch that countless players have been eagerly awaiting is finally here.

Furthermore, according to official information, more new content is expected next month. Let's look forward to it!
