ARC Raiders introduced many core game features in its January Headwinds update, including Solo vs Squads Matchmaking Option, which has been available for over ten days and has unexpectedly continued to be popular with players.
As the name suggests, Solo vs Squads requires players to enter the game alone and compete against teams of three other players for loot and resources. This matchmaking mode is geared towards high-level players, as it requires players to reach level 40 to unlock.
A segment of the player base prefers solo play because it allows for a more immersive experience of the game's excitement and tension, enabling players to calmly strategize and test their skills. In team play, there's a concern that teammates might create noise that attracts ARC enemies or trigger weapon sounds that disrupt concentration.
Therefore, the introduction of Solo vs Squads has further boosted the popularity of ARC Raiders. To help you progress more smoothly in solo mode, this guide will guide you through upgrading your Loadout configuration and share some combat tips and strategies to give you an edge against enemy squads.
Game Prerequisites
Unlock Condition: Reach level 40 in ARC Raiders. You'll then see a Solo vs Squads toggle on the matchmaking screen.
Loadout Settings: After clicking Play button, Loadout settings interface will appear. Once adjusted, you can enter the game solo and compete against squads.
Reward: After the game ends, regardless of whether your extraction fails or succeeds, you will receive a +20% bonus XP.
Loadout
- Augment: Tactical Mk. 2
- Shield: Medium Shield (Blue)
- Weapons: Anvil IV and IL Toro IV
- Quick Use Items: 1 Vita Spray, 5 Shield Rechargers, 5 Surge Shield Rechargers, 5x Adrenaline Shots, and 3 Smoke Grenades
- Augmented Slot: 3 Jolt Mines
- Safe Pocket: 3 Explosive Mines
The above is Loadout setup for solo ARC Raiders. I will explain the rationale behind this build in more detail below.
Augment
Tactical MK. 2 was chosen as Augment because it is an upgraded version of the enhanced tactical gear. It has more backpack slots, which is very convenient if you need to carry a lot of ARC Raiders items, as it has ample space.
Especially after the upgrade, it introduces a very useful survival passive skill. In ARC Raiders combat, if your shield is accidentally broken by an enemy, you'll be in extreme danger if you don't recharge it in time.
However, at this crucial moment, the passive skill of Tactical MK. 2 will release a small smoke grenade when your shield breaks. The smoke is enough to obscure the enemy's vision, buying you time to retreat. Even when there aren't many enemies, you can reposition yourself and use Tactical MK. 2's high mobility to counter-attack and successfully escape pursuit.
Weapons
Regarding weapon selection in ARC Raiders, Anvil is a top-tier armor-piercing weapon. At level 4, its rate of fire increases by 75%, and it possesses high burst damage in close combat, requiring only 1 to 2 bullets to break the armor of an enemy squad member. Equipping Silencer II will further enhance your ability to attack enemies while concealed.
IL Toro is a shotgun that fires bullets that spread in all directions and deal extremely high damage. In combat, if you successfully break through an enemy's armor, you can quickly close the gap while they're in disarray and use IL Toro to instantly kill them.
Both weapons are relatively easy to obtain in ARC Raiders. Furthermore, in the high-pressure environment of solo versus three-man squads, combined with the smoke generated by
Tactical MK. 2's passive ability, you can instantly turn the tide of battle, shifting the momentum to your advantage. Under the cover of smoke, you can then use IL Toro to deliver fatal blows.
Quick Use Items
In solo combat, the pressure on players to survive is extremely high. Therefore, you first need to carry enough healing items, such as a Vita Spray or some herbal bandages, to quickly recover from injuries.
As mentioned earlier regarding Tactical MK. 2, shields are crucial in ARC Raiders. Therefore, prepare a Surge Shield Recharger to recharge your shield, as well as some regular Shield Rechargers.
Tactical Equipment
In addition, to further enhance your loadout, I recommend equipping Jolt Mine to help you achieve victory against overwhelming odds. Dropping it during combat can stun enemies and disrupt their attack rhythm.
Alternatively, you can equip Explosive Mine. This allows you to deploy mines at indoor entrances or stairwell corners. When enemies rush forward, they may unknowingly fall into the trap, triggering an instant explosion and quickly reducing the number of enemy three-man squads.
Other
Fast movement is also crucial in ARC Raiders. I highly recommend equipping Snap Hook, which allows you to hook to distant locations for escape or descend from the sky to finish off enemies when smoke or explosions occur.
In summary, the above describes a loadout setup that can help you gain an advantage in Solo vs Squads.
Whether it's the smoke from a broken shield or the explosion from an enemy stepping on a trap, the tense situation can instantly turn into a battleground where you dominate. You can continue firing, or choose to conserve your strength and prioritize retreat. Therefore, you can adjust your strategy at any time based on the situation.
I really enjoy the challenging Solo vs Squads gameplay mode. It greatly cultivates our combat skills and hones our technical abilities, transforming us from ordinary players into smarter, calmer, and more powerful raiders.
