With Diablo II: Resurrected Season 13 nearing its end, the development team has proclaimed the launch plans for Season 14 and the accompanying Patch 3.2.
The game data and player behavior accumulated during Season 13 provided crucial information for this balance adjustment, directly driving the implementation of several changes.
While maintaining the classic Diablo experience, Diablo II: Resurrected continuously optimizes gear acquisition curves and class diversity through season changes.
Season 14 is scheduled to officially launch on May 22, 2026 (North American time). More noteworthy than the simple new season leaderboard reset are the iterative adjustments from PTR testing in Patch 3.2.
Season 14 Ladder
Diablo II: Resurrected Season 14 continues with four independent Ladder modes, allowing players to choose between speedrunning to level 99 or collecting high-value Diablo 2 Resurrected Items based on their preferences.
After Season 13 ends, all Ladder characters will be transferred to their corresponding non-ladder character groups. Items in Shared Stash will be placed in a set of tabs marked "Withdraw Only," displayed as a checkmarked Pastbox. However, items stored in Withdraw Only tabs during Season 12 will be permanently lost during this transfer.
Players can retrieve retained items from Season 13 from Withdraw Only tabs throughout Season 14. When Season 14 ends, these tabs will be overwritten by items from Season 13 Shared Stash. This mechanism requires players to actively clear their stash from previous seasons within each season cycle.Otherwise, it is irreversible.
Terror Zones Adjustments
The following outlines change to Heralds and Worldstone Shards in Terror Zones.
Heralds
Patch 3.2 made significant changes to Herald's generation logic in Terror Zones. Previously, during PTR testing, Tier 1 and Tier 2 Heralds appeared too frequently, while Tier 3 through Tier 5 Heralds were insufficient.
The new version unifies the spawn rates of Heralds across all levels, resulting in a more balanced monster density and Herald spawn frequency throughout the area. Specifically, the chance to trigger a Herald hunt grows as players kill more monsters inside Terror Zones.
When the probability triggers, a "lightning storm" effect appears above the killed monster, giving the player 5 seconds to prepare. Furthermore, the development team has added a protection mechanism to prevent two Heralds from spawning simultaneously.
Testing shows that with continuous map clearing, the total number of Heralds in a single game has increased from 30-40 to 70-90, without excessive clustering.
Developers lowered Heralds' health bonus per level from 500% down to 250%, and also cut the perlevel damage bonus from 50% to 25%.
In addition, the drop rates of Rare, Set, and Unique Diablo 2 Resurrected Items from Heralds have been slightly reduced to match the drop levels of Super Unique monsters and prevent them from becoming overly concentrated loot goblins. Heralds' Thorns aura triggering twice per player hit has also been resolved.
Heralds' rank will now increase upon spawning, rather than upon kill, making the challenge and rewards of high-rank Heralds more aligned.
Worldstone Shards
Worldstone Shard drop rates are no longer affected by the number of players in the game. This means a substantial increase in the drop rate of this item in single-player mode. The drop mechanism for Latent Sunder Charm is also no longer affected by the number of players, and the minimum drop level requirement has been reduced from Tier 4 to Tier 1.
Tier 3 and Tier 4 Heralds have twice the drop rate of Tier 1 Heralds, and Tier 5 Heralds have three times the drop rate. More importantly, Latent Sunder Charms can now drop from any monster and are affected by Magic Find attribute.
Developers tested a mechanic during PTR: if Heralds failed to drop a bonus Latent Sunder Charm, they would instead have a higher chance of dropping something valuable like a charm or amulet. That mechanic has now been removed.
The development team considered this design too lucrative and instead integrated Worldstone Shards directly into the regular Heralds' loot table.
Colossal Ancient Difficulty Reset
Addressing community feedback that some builds cleared Colossal Ancient too easily, Patch 3.2 significantly increased the difficulty of the battle.
The drop rate of Colossal Ancient Statues from non-Terror Zone bosses has been reduced, but the summoning mechanic during the battle is now continuously generated, with a maximum of 5 Colossal Barbarians at any given time.
The magic resistance of all Colossals has been increased from 50% to 75%. Specifically, for each boss:
Talic's Whirlwind and Fire Twisters each received a damage buff.
Korlic's Cold Fissure damage has been increased.
Madawc's Thunderstorm damage has also been increased.
A more challenging combat experience is the goal of these changes, along with adjustments to several player abilities.
Functional Fixes
Chronicle: Fixed an issue where Chronicle rewards were automatically unloaded upon character death or joining a new game. Improved controlled operation, corrected issues such as missing Indestructible stat when viewing Runeword, incorrect Attack Speed display, and desynchronization between View Rewards button and the panel.
Loot Filter: Fixed a bug where hidden coins wouldn't be automatically picked up by the controller, and resolved a misaligned highlight issue.
The Stash update adds the ability to move three Diablo 2 Resurrected Items from Advanced Stash to the inventory when using the controller, and fixes a bug where non-rune items couldn't be quickly moved to Personal or Shared Stash.
The console and Handheld updates resolve over ten misaligned (UI), cursor missing, and default settings not matching issues.
Furthermore, several stability and performance improvements have been implemented, and various bugs related to cross-region game integration have been fixed. Keyboard movement functionality has also been reintroduced, allowing players to bind WASD keys as movement commands.
Diablo II: Resurrected Season 14 builds upon community feedback from Season 13, adjusting many long-awaited features.
Overall, Season 14 maintains the classic core while extending the season's lifespan through systematic improvements rather than simply adding new content.
