The official Diablo 2 Resurrected team has finally released update details regarding Season 14. Season 14 Ladder officially kicks off on May 22nd - it is time to dive back into the fray and forge new legends!
With the conclusion of Patch 3.2 PTR, Diablo 2 Resurrected has carefully heeded player feedback and implemented sweeping adjustments to Warlock class.
These changes include highly anticipated reverts to previous states, alongside mechanical refinements and bug fixes, all aimed at ensuring that the various Warlock builds offer greater balance and depth in the new season.
Miasma
Miasma Bolt
Warlock's Miasma Bolt ability has undergone a significant number of adjustments. Given that the skill felt extremely clunky to use during PTR, it is gratifying to see Diablo 2 Resurrected team revert some of those specific changes.
First, they introduced a delay for the spawning of cloud missiles, while simultaneously removing the delay associated with the generation of Miasma Bolt Cloud itself. Furthermore, they have reduced the damage dealt by Cloud effect by 50%, reverting Miasma Bolt Cloud Damage output to its pre-PTR levels.
Miasma Chains
Miasma Chains has also seen substantial changes, most notably the removal of its casting delay. Additionally, a new cap on the number of active chains has been introduced; this limit can now be raised to a maximum of 10 chains - a truly excellent improvement. While the precise mechanics of this system remain somewhat unclear, it clearly resolves the issue encountered during PTR where Warlock's active chain count would get stuck at a hard limit of 5.
Next Hit Delay mechanic appears to remain unchanged; it applies exclusively to Clouds generated by a single individual Chain. Throughout its duration, each Chain generates a new Cloud along its path every 0.5 seconds.
For instance, if I simultaneously cast 10 Chains, with each Chain generating 12 Clouds over its 6-second duration, resulting in 120 Clouds, monsters will still register a maximum of only 10 damage instances during those 6 seconds. Next Hit Delay mechanism functions strictly within the context of a single Chain and does not apply across multiple distinct Chains.
Finally, the developers have also fixed a bug that was causing individual Chains to generate unintended extra Clouds. Finally, they fixed a bug that caused Chains to break whenever Blade Warp skill was used. This is an absolute triumph for builds centered on Miasma Chains.
The core concept of Chains builds lies in utilizing Chains to manipulate one's positioning; Blade Warp was originally intended to be the simplest and most convenient method for achieving this, yet it previously failed to function correctly because its use would frequently result in Chains breaking. Consequently, this constitutes a fantastic improvement.
Most of the changes implemented for Miasma skill series were designed to bring the damage mechanics of these skills into balance with those of other character classes. Following the update, this type of magical damage is now typically accompanied by certain mechanical constraints intended to balance its potency, thereby offsetting the inherent advantage presented by the general lack of magic resistance among monsters in D2R.
Abyss
Regarding Abyss skill, its maximum radius has now been capped at 11 yards. Additionally, a bug was fixed wherein the player's Mana would still be consumed even if the casting of Abyss skill failed.
Furthermore, D2R team fixed a bug where the radius bonus provided by the passive skill, Enhanced Entropy, failed to scale upward as the skill level increased. They also resolved a display error: occasionally, the tooltips for Miasma Bolt, Miasma Chains, and Abyss would fail to correctly display the radius bonus effects applied to those skills.
Echoing Strike
The weapon damage utilization rate for Echoing Strike has been increased from 75% to 90%. They have effectively boosted the portion of the skill's damage output that is derived directly from the equipped weapon. Consequently, the weapon's contribution to the player's total damage output has increased, while the contribution derived solely from the skill itself has decreased proportionally. I consider this to be a very sensible adjustment.
However, based on feedback from PTR players, D2R team has reverted their previous fix regarding the bug that caused Echoing Strike to deplete weapon durability at an excessively rapid rate. Although the accelerated durability loss was technically a bug, this specific characteristic of durability consumption actually aligns well with the original thematic fantasy intended for the skill.
Additionally, a bug was fixed wherein certain damage bonuses, which were intended to stack additively, were erroneously stacking multiplicatively instead. Finally, the bug that previously allowed Echoing Strike to bypass the standard Attack Rating (hit chance) check has also been resolved.
Although Echoing Strike Warlock Build is set to undergo significant nerfs - and the overall effectiveness of the skill has indeed been substantially diminished - it appears that players will still be able to continue utilizing Ethereal-quality Diablo 2 Resurrected Items within this build. This outcome can certainly be considered a major victory.
Mirror Blades
Diablo 2 Resurrected developers have officially resolved several issues related to Mirror Blades: The character stat panel and skill tooltips previously failed to accurately display Attack Rating bonus provided by the skill; this display error has now been corrected. Additionally, the issue preventing players from continuously casting Mirror Blades while holding down the skill button on a controller has been resolved.
Furthermore, when casting Mirror Blades while wielding a bow or crossbow, the first projectile fired will no longer erroneously apply damage modifiers that were originally intended solely for the mirror clones.
Other Changes
- Sigil of Lethargy: Damage Taken attribute bonus has been removed, and a bug preventing the skill from affecting Hostile Players has been fixed.
- Apocalypse: Fixed an issue where the visual effects of this skill would occasionally appear to duplicate themselves when viewed from the perspective of other players.
- Ring of Fire: The adjustments regarding damage scaling remain consistent with the settings established during the PTR phase.
- Health Potion: The healing potency has been increased from 100% to 150% to ensure balance with other character classes that share a similar playstyle.
- Cleave: Fixed an issue where the casting animation for this skill appeared to be slower than the actual casting speed.
- Eldritch Blast: The values for the accompanying Life Steal and Mana Steal effects have been standardized from a variable range of 5%–20% to a fixed rate of 5%.
Diablo 2 Resurrected has retained the positive changes while discarding the detrimental ones, applying appropriate adjustments where necessary. Overall, the developers have truly listened to and incorporated almost every significant piece of player feedback; consequently, Warlock's various skills have undergone meticulous fine-tuning in terms of both mechanics and numerical value.
