Forza Horizon 6 boasts the best Force Feedback performance in the series, but most players still need to invest time in meticulous tuning to unleash the hardware's full potential.
There's a strict priority relationship between Wheelbase's own drive settings and in-game parameters in Forza Horizon 6; incorrect adjustment order can lead to clipping.
Based on practical experience testing multiple Wheelbases in Forza Horizon 6, this article provides a complete tuning process from hardware to software, from core to auxiliary functions, focusing on analyzing the mechanisms of key parameters such as Mechanical Trail.
Wheelbase Pre-tuning
Before launching Forza Horizon 6, the steering wheel hardware's underlying configuration must be completed. The in-game Force Feedback Scale cannot exceed Wheelbase's physics limit; blindly lowering Torque will compress the dynamic range. The following three items are the cornerstones of tuning for FH6:
Torque Range
Wheelbase Torque should be controlled between 5 and 8 Nm. For gears or belts with Torque below this range, Wheelbase can operate at full Torque output; for high-torque Direct Drive Wheelbases, it's necessary to manually lower it to this range.
Excessive Wheelbase Torque, combined with a significant in-game reduction, can compress Force Feedback signal. Forza Horizon 6 covers various driving conditions including off-road, on-road, and drifting, and 5-8 Nm of torque maintains detail clarity during extended driving of your Forza Horizon 6 Cars.
Centering Spring and Damping
Centering Spring must be kept on, using the default intensity. In FH6, this function is not a constant centering force but simulates a low-speed Caster feel, gradually yielding to Mechanical Trail and Pneumatic Trail effects above 30-50 mph.
Disabling Centering Spring in Forza Horizon 6 will cause menu centering to fail and abnormal low-speed handling. Damping should be differentiated based on Wheelbase type: Direct Drive Wheelbase should be set to 10%-20% of the base Damping to avoid an overly light center area; Gear or belt Wheelbase can remain at the default or slightly reduced.
Degrees of Rotation
Wheelbase Degrees of Rotation should be locked between 720 and 900 degrees, prioritizing 900 degrees. While angles below 540 degrees improve steering response, they can encourage bad habits and reduce high-speed steering accuracy in FH6.
If the wheelbase doesn't support angle adjustment, in-game Steering Rotation compensation can be used in Forza Horizon 6, but you must confirm the physics lock-up and game limits are synchronized via Telemetry.
In-game Basic Options
After completing wheelbase presets, access the game difficulty settings and advanced controls menu. You must use the steering wheel to open these; otherwise, the wheel-specific options will not be displayed in FH6.
Steering Modes
The difference between Simulation Steering and Normal Steering in Forza Horizon 6 lies in the damping of physics roll and weight transfer. Simulation Steering provides more precise control and richer dynamic feedback, suitable for most scenarios.
Normal Steering applies overall damping to steering and suspension, making drifts smoother in FH6. If you primarily drift or find Simulation Steering too sharp, try Normal Steering.
Advanced Controls Pre-set
Keep Vibration enabled; the default strength is sufficient. Steering Linearity is fixed at 50. All Deadzone settings should remain at default (steering 0/100). Pedals should be checked for noise via Telemetry. Vibration Scale can remain at default; reduce it if excessive vibration occurs in Forza Horizon 6.
Force Feedback Core Parameters
The following are core force feedback parameters, directly determining the steering wheel's ability to transmit grip, slip, and vehicle attitude in FH6. Mechanical Trail has the highest priority.
Mechanical Trail
Mechanical Trail controls front wheel feedback and steering response speed in Forza Horizon 6. Increasing this value (recommended: 1.2-1.5) significantly enhances self-centering force, helping to correct oversteer promptly.
Most driving instability, rear-wheel drive cornering drifts, or loss of drift control can be resolved by increasing Mechanical Trail in FH6. The upper limit is approximately 1.6; exceeding this will result in excessively abrupt return to center. That's why Mechanical Trail comes first.
Minimum Force and Load Sensitivity
Minimum Force effectively controls Pneumatic Trail effect (tire contact feedback) in Forza Horizon 6. Lower-spec Wheelbase can remain at the default setting or be reduced by one or two levels; higher-spec Wheelbase can be increased by one or two levels to increase the feeling of weight in corners.
If all models exhibit an Understeer tendency in low-speed corners in FH6, it indicates that Minimum Force is too high, suppressing Mechanical Trail. Minimum Force should be reduced or Mechanical Trail should be further increased.
Load Sensitivity transmits suspension compression and rebound. The default value is usually reasonable; only fine-tune by one or two levels if the front end doesn't feel lighter or heavier. Note that Load Sensitivity should not suppress Trail effect in Forza Horizon 6.
Damping and Vibration
Wheelbase Damping and in-game Wheel Damper Scale are independent. In-game Wheel Damper Scale on PC primarily affects wheel responsiveness rather than the feeling of weight in FH6.
If the steering wheel is sluggish, reduce Wheel Damper Scale (not lower than 0.5); if the feedback is too sharp, increase Wheel Damper Scale (not higher than 1.5).
For Direct Drive wheelbases, keep the setting at default or slightly higher to get the best response from your Forza Horizon 6 Cars. Gear/belt wheelbases can be lowered by one or two levels. In Forza Horizon 6, Road Feel Scale and Off-road Feel Scale are considered tertiary effects. Their default values are too high. We recommend lowering Off-road Feel Scale to approximately 7.
Assists and Boundaries
Centering Spring Scale only provides a Caster feel at low speeds, automatically fading at high speeds in Forza Horizon 6. Unless the low-speed feel is too heavy or drifting requires a lighter lock, no adjustment is needed, and it should not be increased.
Force Feedback Scale is the final fine-tuning tool; adjustments should not exceed two levels. Steering Speed Sensitivity and Steering Lock Multiplier, among other console parameters for FH6, should all be kept at the default setting of 1.0.
Practical testing in Forza Horizon 6 shows that following this process not only achieves wheel control speeds comparable to a joystick on most vehicles but also provides clear and detailed Force Feedback throughout FH6.
