With only days left until the official release of Forza Horizon 6, global player anticipation has reached its peak. Judging from the current previews and official announcements, this isn't just a simple iteration, but a comprehensive response to the core problems of Forza Horizon series.
The development team has addressed player requests that have been repeatedly raised over the years, providing concrete and tangible optimization solutions. Some issues have been significantly corrected, while others remain unresolved.
Let's take a look at the new content in Forza Horizon 6 and the improvements made to past issues.
Remaster Outdated Models
What we least wanted to see in Forza Horizon were those disproportionately large vehicles, such as Nissan Silvia S15, R32 Skyline GTR, R34 Skyline GTR, and many others. The good news is that they have all been confirmed to be remodeled in FH6, as evidenced by the preview version.
Many players have been pleading with the developers to fix these vehicle models for years, especially Japanese cars; some materials even date back to Xbox 360 era. Nissan Silvia S15's body lines droop too low, especially at the rear; R34 Skyline GTR's styling is somewhat flat; and Subaru 22B's chassis crossbeams are disproportionately large compared to the headlights.
In this game striving for 4K resolution, these low-poly models look out of place. Even the best texture rework can't save these vehicles. There are still some vehicles in FH6 that need re-scanning. Based on the preview version and official test drive videos, Toyota AE86 is a prime example. However, seeing that Forza Horizon has finally invested time in reworking these vehicles is reassuring for players and gives us hope for more improvements in the future.
Replace Ugly Forza Aero
Like those outdated models, Forza Aero has been a long-criticized part of Forza Horizon. For years, it was the only customizable part, but its appearance was quite ugly, meaning that if you wanted to remain competitive in online races or achieve good lap times in opponent mode, you had to sacrifice the vehicle's appearance.
Aside from its poor design, the rear wing didn't fit many FH models. Some looked too narrow, others too long. Whenever you saw a player using Forza Aero in Free Mode, you knew either they had terrible taste in vehicle modifications or they were an exceptionally skilled driver.
Thankfully, in Forza Horizon 6, Forza Aero's ugly, oversized rear wing was replaced with a swan-neck wing, which looks more modern, but I still feel it doesn't quite suit certain models.
I think Forza Horizon could introduce a rear wing design system similar to Gran Turismo 7, allowing you to freely choose the rear wing components you want, instead of a one-size-fits-all design. For now, I'm glad Forza Aero problem that plagued us for years is finally gone.
Revamp Festival Playlist
Festival Playlist is one of the easiest ways to extend a game's lifespan, making it well past its release date. You need to complete various events, such as PR stunts, trial events, and seasonal championships, to earn points and reach weekly or monthly milestones.
The series' Festival Playlist mode hasn't been updated in over seven years. In that time, we've witnessed an entire console generation change. However, the way we interact with the game weekly has stagnated.
Add to that the exclusive vehicles that only appear for a limited time each week or month, and it forces you to complete every challenge. Otherwise, unless these newly released vehicles reappear in future game lists, or you're lucky enough to get them at the auction house with a large amount of Forza Horizon 6 Credits, you're virtually guaranteed to get them, which isn't part of the fun of playing Forza Horizon.
This limited-time exclusive reward system actually makes the game experience more tedious faster. Your gaming experience transforms from freedom and fun into completing a task list. This will be extremely difficult for those who don't necessarily have time to play every day.
While the official details of the new FH 6 Festival Playlist haven't been released yet, they've stated that there will be more ways to obtain exclusive vehicles after the event ends. I hope that with this change, all players with different schedules in real life can fully enjoy Forza Horizon 6 without worrying about missing out on any exciting content.
Launch Stunt Party
Horizon Arcade is one of the loneliest modes in Forza Horizon series. If you remember Forzathon Live Events in FH4, you'll definitely see the giant Forzathon Live icon on the map, where all players would flock to the circle to work together to complete challenges - it truly felt like a community event.
However, in FH5, the online system only showed players within your immediate vicinity, significantly reducing the player base. Finding a team to participate in Horizon Arcade events was entirely a matter of luck.
In Forza Horizon 6, this game mode will be replaced by Horizon Stunt Party. However, FH6's online free roaming mode remains the same as FH5, only matching nearby players. I'm curious how this new feature will work? Hopefully, it will bring us more interactivity.
Strengthen Anti-Cheat
Forza Horizon leaderboard is one of the few ways you can truly compete against players from around the world. Nothing is more frustrating than spending hours in Rivals, or completing a PR stunt with a Perfect Angle, only to find the leaderboard dominated by outrageously cheated scores.
Unfortunately, no matter how many times Forza Horizon officially removes invalid scores, they always reappear. Worse still, they even mistakenly delete scores from legitimate players. This completely undermines the competitiveness of Forza Horizon; you simply can't distinguish between legitimate and cheated scores.
The good news is that, according to official hints, FH6 seems to be finally getting a more robust anti-cheat system. This means we might finally see a truly fair leaderboard.
Forza Horizon 6 is sincerely addressing many previously overlooked issues, making players feel respected and heard. We are excited to see the official team take this crucial step in fixing and optimizing, and we look forward to a better driving experience after release.
