GTA 6 Ultimate Edition vs Standard Edition: Every Difference Explained

GTA 6 costs $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate. Compare exclusive vehicles, shops, activities, pre-order bonuses, and find out which edition is worth buying.

Author: Oliver Hayes Views: 14 Published: Nov 05, 2026 Modified: Nov 05, 2026

Spending another $20 on GTA 6 gets you more than a few alternate outfits. Rockstar's Ultimate Edition includes exclusive vehicles, weapon variants, customization locations, and additional activities spread throughout Jason and Lucia's story. Some of those bonuses are purely cosmetic. Others give players access to content that Standard Edition owners won't get.

That distinction matters when you're deciding whether to spend $79.99 on Standard or $99.99 on Ultimate.

Both editions include Grand Theft Auto VI, and neither requires you to purchase the more expensive version to access the main game. The difference is everything Rockstar has bundled into the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.

For players who enjoy collecting cars, modifying vehicles, experimenting with character customization, and exploring optional activities, there's a reasonable argument for paying more. If you're primarily interested in the main story, Standard is a much harder option to beat.

Here's what each edition actually offers, where the exclusive content makes a difference, and whether the extra $20 is money well spent.

GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate: Price and Content Comparison

The US prices are $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate. Both are available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The important distinction is that Ultimate adds exclusive content to the existing game rather than providing a separate campaign.

However, calling it just a cosmetic bundle would also be misleading. The PTT Youngin$ Compound raid and Classic Car Collection are additional activities, while several shops are explicitly reserved for Ultimate owners.

Those are genuine differences worth considering before making a purchase.

What Does GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Include?

Rockstar describes Ultimate as an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and activities woven into Jason and Lucia's story.

The bonuses are not simply dumped into the player's inventory at the beginning. Rockstar says new items are uncovered as players progress through different story chapters.

Here's a closer look at what you're paying for.

1. Exclusive Vehicles and Garage Rewards

For players who enjoy the automotive side of GTA, the Ultimate Edition has some particularly interesting additions.

Its vehicle collection includes:

  • '95 Grotti Cheetah: A mid-1990s sports car with a retro-futuristic design and exclusive livery.

  • Shitzu Squalo: A distinctive pink-and-blue watercraft equipped with an explosives-laden weapons crate.

  • '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy: An off-road vehicle designed for exploring the backcountry around Mount Kalaga.

  • Dinka Enduro: An additional motorcycle associated with Jason's safehouse.

  • Crest Kayak: Another vehicle included with Jason's safehouse rewards.

  • Ganado Retro Build: An exclusive modification package for Jason's Vapid Ganado pickup.

The buggy deserves particular attention because its associated Paradise Garage offers more than somewhere to park an extra vehicle. Rockstar's PlayStation listing describes a weapon locker and a secure place to deposit stolen goods to be fenced.

That's a more tangible gameplay convenience than simply receiving another vehicle skin.

The collection is appealing if you plan to spend considerable time exploring Leonida, switching between different vehicles, and building a garage worth showing off.

However, Rockstar hasn't established that owning these bonuses automatically makes the main campaign easier or provides a guaranteed financial advantage.

2. Exclusive Weapons and Personalized Sidearms

Ultimate also includes the Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers and personalized weapon variants.

The revolvers feature distinctive Vice City-inspired detailing, including palm-tree-engraved grips and customized styling.

The personalized variants include:

  • Jason's Girardi ES9 pistol.

  • Lucia's Klose K17 pistol.

These additions give the two protagonists more distinctive equipment and expand the available weapon customization.

For players who enjoy building different loadouts and collecting unique weapons, that's a welcome bonus.

But don't confuse exclusive weapon appearances with confirmed superior combat performance. Rockstar's edition description establishes the included weapons and their designs, not a guaranteed damage advantage over Standard Edition players.

3. Five Exclusive Shops and Customization Locations

This is arguably one of the most interesting differences between the two editions.

Ultimate includes five special destinations that Rockstar explicitly identifies as exclusive to the higher edition:

Location What It Offers
Rideout Customs Vehicle customization, detailed interiors, rims, and donk styling
Sara's Unisex Salon Hairstyles, facial hair, makeup, and nail customization
Stock 305 Exclusive clothing and streetwear
Electric Fang Tattoo More than 50 signature tattoo designs
One-Eyed Willie's Off-road modifications and custom vehicle artwork

These locations give Ultimate owners additional ways to customize Jason, Lucia, and their vehicles.

The distinction is important because these aren't simply five extra shops added to a checklist. They represent dedicated customization destinations that Standard owners won't have access to through the base edition.

For players who regularly change character appearances, experiment with different outfits, or spend hours modifying vehicles, these locations could become a meaningful part of the experience.

If you rarely visit customization shops and prefer to spend your time completing missions, however, their value will be considerably lower.

4. PTT Youngin$ Compound and Classic Car Collection

These two bonuses are arguably the strongest arguments for Ultimate beyond its vehicles and cosmetic content.

PTT Youngin$ Compound

Rockstar describes this activity as a raid on the compound of one of Southside Vice City's most prominent gangs.

Players must raid the location and escape with special items and distinct contraband.

That's more interesting than simply receiving another piece of clothing or a vehicle. It gives Ultimate owners access to an additional activity built around the criminal world of Vice City.

Classic Car Collection

This is another substantial addition for vehicle enthusiasts.

The activity involves tracking down abandoned classic cars and unfinished project vehicles, then restoring them to their former condition.

The collection is presented as a special commission from Wyman, an eccentric collector and local fixer.

If you enjoy finding unusual vehicles and gradually turning neglected cars into something worth driving, this could be one of the most appealing Ultimate bonuses.

It also fits naturally into the kind of exploration that makes GTA enjoyable. Not every player wants to rush from one main mission to another. Sometimes finding an interesting car and spending time bringing it back to life is the entire point.

These activities make Ultimate more than a simple collection of cosmetic rewards. Still, Rockstar hasn't suggested that they replace or expand the main Jason and Lucia campaign.

What Do Both Editions Get With the GTA 6 Pre-Order?

One reason Standard remains attractive is that some of the most recognizable pre-order rewards are shared between both versions.

The Vintage Vice City Pack is available with qualifying Standard and Ultimate purchases before November 20, 2026.

It includes:

  • '55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage: A classic vehicle with an associated garage.

  • Character Customization: Additional outfits and hairstyles.

  • Exclusive Weapon Pattern: An additional weapon appearance.

You don't need to pay for Ultimate to receive these items.

There is also a free month of GTA+ for eligible digital purchases of either edition before November 20.

A few details are worth checking before purchasing:

  • The free GTA+ month is a digital purchase benefit.

  • Physical Standard purchases include the Vintage Vice City Pack but do not qualify for the same free GTA+ offer.

  • The GTA+ membership must be claimed through the relevant platform store.

  • After the free month, the subscription automatically renews at the regular monthly price unless canceled.

GTA+ is an existing Rockstar membership service. The free month should not be confused with an additional GTA 6 single-player expansion.

For anyone who already subscribes to GTA+, the free month can extend the next billing date rather than requiring a completely new membership.

In other words, choosing Standard doesn't mean missing out on the main pre-order incentives.

Can You Upgrade GTA 6 Standard to Ultimate Later?

Yes. And this is probably the most useful detail for anyone who hasn't decided which edition to buy.

Rockstar confirms that Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefronts.

This also applies to players who purchase the physical Standard Edition. Once the download code inside the box has been redeemed, they can purchase the digital upgrade.

That gives players some flexibility.

You could start with Standard, experience the game, and decide whether the additional vehicles, shops, and activities are worth purchasing later.

There is no need to pay for content you're unsure you'll enjoy before you've even started playing.

One important distinction: the current $20 difference between the two full editions should not automatically be treated as a guaranteed future upgrade price. Check the standalone add-on listing in your platform's store before purchasing.

Is There a Physical GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?

No. Rockstar currently offers Ultimate as a digital edition only.

The physical Standard Edition is also a little different from what longtime collectors might expect.

Rather than containing a traditional game disc, the box includes a digital download code.

According to Rockstar's November 4 support update:

  • Physical Standard versions begin shipping or becoming available for pickup on November 12.

  • The box contains a download code, not a disc.

  • Physical Standard owners can still purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade after redeeming their code.

If you're buying a physical copy specifically because you want a disc for your collection, this is something to consider before ordering.

Does GTA 6 Ultimate Give You a Gameplay Advantage?

This is where expectations need to be realistic.

Ultimate includes several bonuses that have practical uses. The buggy's garage, weapon locker, and secure stolen-goods storage are examples. The exclusive activities also provide additional things to do beyond the main story.

But there is a difference between receiving more content and gaining a significant gameplay advantage.

Rockstar has not confirmed that Ultimate owners will earn more money from ordinary missions, progress through the main story faster, or receive a universally stronger combat loadout.

The extra vehicles and shops also don't automatically mean Standard players will struggle to explore Leonida or customize their characters.

For players interested in GTA 6 cash and the wider in-game economy, it's particularly important not to assume that the Ultimate Edition provides a guaranteed financial boost.

The included content may offer additional convenience and opportunities, but its actual economic value depends on how those systems work in the finished game.

There's also something worth considering from a purely entertainment perspective.

Some players enjoy earning their first decent vehicle, gradually building a collection, and discovering new customization options as the story develops. Having additional rewards included from a premium edition may not necessarily make that progression more enjoyable.

Other players would rather have the full collection available to them and spend their time exploring everything the game offers.

Neither approach is wrong. They simply represent different reasons to play GTA.

Which GTA 6 Edition Should You Buy?

After looking at the actual content, the decision becomes much easier.

Buy Standard Edition If:

  • You primarily care about Jason and Lucia's main story.

  • You don't particularly care about exclusive vehicles or clothing.

  • You prefer discovering and collecting vehicles through normal gameplay.

  • You want the Vintage Vice City Pack without spending an additional $20.

  • You would rather decide whether to upgrade after experiencing the game.

For most players, Standard is the sensible purchase. It gives you the complete base game without asking you to pay for additional content you might never use.

Buy Ultimate Edition If:

  • You enjoy collecting and customizing vehicles.

  • You want access to the five exclusive customization destinations.

  • The PTT Youngin$ raid and Classic Car Collection interest you.

  • You like having additional activities beyond the main campaign.

  • You want the full collection of edition-exclusive rewards.

Ultimate is easier to justify if you're the kind of GTA player who spends hours exploring, collecting cars, customizing characters, and looking for things to do outside the main missions.

The additional activities and exclusive locations give the upgrade more substance than a typical cosmetic bundle.

Final Verdict: Is GTA 6 Ultimate Worth $20 More?

For most players, I'd still recommend the Standard Edition.

The reason isn't that Ultimate offers nothing worthwhile. In fact, its exclusive shops, vehicle collection, PTT Youngin$ activity, and Classic Car Collection make it a more substantial upgrade than a package consisting entirely of cosmetic rewards.

But those additions won't matter equally to everyone.

If your priority is experiencing Jason and Lucia's story across Leonida, Standard already gives you what you're buying GTA 6 for. You also receive the Vintage Vice City Pack when purchasing within the pre-order promotion, and eligible digital buyers get the free month of GTA+.

Ultimate makes more sense for players who want to spend time with the additional content rather than simply owning it.

And because Rockstar allows Standard owners to upgrade later, there's little reason to rush into the more expensive edition if you're undecided.

My recommendation: Buy Standard if you're mainly here for GTA 6. Choose Ultimate if collecting vehicles, exploring exclusive locations, and completing additional activities are a big part of what makes GTA fun for you.

The extra $20 isn't unreasonable. Just make sure you're paying for content you'll actually enjoy.
