After the release of WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5, Ascendant Voidshards can be crafted into Ascendant Voidcores, but you need 5 Ascendant Voidshards to craft one Ascendant Voidcore. Ascendant Voidcores can be used to upgrade max-level Hero Track and Myth Track weapons and trinkets by 6 item levels, reaching a maximum of 282/298.
Initially, Ascendant Voidshards had only a very small drop rate from late-game content. Fortunately, this mechanism was changed in the hotfix patch released on May 13th. This article will teach you how to obtain Ascendant Voidshards in WoW Midnight. Let's take a look.
How to farm?
There is a prerequisite for obtaining Ascendant Voidshards: you must complete the quest Ascendant Nilhammer and fully build Voidforge. Before that, shards will not drop.
In WoW Midnight, the best strategy for obtaining Ascendant Voidshards depends on your gear and party size. You can choose to challenge high-difficulty content for a guaranteed drop, or you can quickly repeat lower-difficulty events. Here are six methods for you to choose from.
Nightmare Prey
Nightmare Prey is one of the best ways to obtain Ascendant Voidshards, and it's quite easy to complete, suitable for solo players, with a guaranteed daily drop. First, find Nightmare Prey world quests on the map, usually located in Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdoms, then kill the boss, and finally loot Champion Gear Chest that spawns after the kill.
However, these quests can only be completed twice per week. If you're only missing a few, these quests are a good option; they are not only very quick to complete, but it's also a virtually cost-free and guaranteed way to obtain shards.
Delves
Like Nightmare Prey, Delves are very quick to complete. Ascendant Voidshards are obtained from Bountiful Chests at the end of Delves. Each character can open four per day, but opening these chests requires Chest Keys.
World Quests and Weekly Quests yield a large amount of loot, including a significant amount of WoW Midnight Gold and Chest Keys. You can obtain approximately four Chest Keys per week, with a maximum of 12 stored at a time.
Note that Ascendant Voidshards will always drop from Tier 11 Delves; the drop rate is lower below Tier 11. Therefore, if possible, please complete Tier 11 Delves and ensure you have Chest Keys.
Mythic+ Dungeons
Mythic+ Dungeons are the only method that can be repeated and has no drop cap, making them suitable for well-equipped groups. You are guaranteed to obtain Ascendant Voidshards if you challenge a Mythic+ dungeon Tier 10 or higher. Below Tier 10, the drop rate will be very low.
Therefore, if you want to farm Ascendant Voidshards in Mythic+ dungeons, it is recommended that you challenge Tier 10 or higher.
Ritual Sites
Ritual Sites were originally the best location for farming Ascendant Voidshards. However, in a recent hotfix, the drop rate of Tier 1 through 4 Ritual Sites was significantly reduced. However, they slightly increased the drop rate of Tier 5 Ritual Sites.
If you have already completed all Delves and Nightmare prey quests, then Tier 5 Ritual Sites may be the best choice for solo players in WoW Midnight. Although the drop rate has increased, obtaining them is still not guaranteed.
Heroic Raid
Each boss in a Heroic Raid guarantees one Ascendant Voidshard, meaning you can obtain a total of 9 if you defeat all bosses. However, each boss only drops Ascendant Voidshards once per week.
To obtain Ascendant Voidshards from Heroic Raids, you need a well-coordinated team and don't require the extra power provided by Ascendant Voidshards to complete the raid. This is an excellent way to acquire Voidshards.
Mythic Raid
Similar to Heroic Raids, each boss kill yields one Ascendant Voidshard, but the difficulty is significantly higher, requiring teamwork and high-level gear.
If you're already progressing through Mythic Raids, you'll naturally receive fragments with each boss kill. If you're not a Mythic Raid player, continue challenging Heroic Raids or Mythic+ dungeons.
How to use?
You can possess any number of Ascendant Voidshards. Open your inventory, right-click on the fragments, and select the crafting option. Go to Voidstorm zone, find Voidforge, and interact with Domanaar Decimus. Use 5 Ascendant Voidshards to craft one Ascendant Voidcore. Place eligible weapons or trinkets from your inventory into Voidforge upgrade slot.
However, note that Ascendant Voidcores can only be used on the following three types of equipment:
- Hero track gear - Must be fully upgraded to 6/6
- Myth track gear - Must be fully upgraded to 6/6
- Radiance Crafted gear - Must be Quality 3 (maximum rank). Only weapons and trinkets can be upgraded. Other armor slots cannot be upgraded.
Recommendation
There is no weekly cap on Ascendant Voidshards; you can farm them infinitely and immediately craft them into Voidcores once you obtain them.
Do not hoard Ascendant Voidshards. After the latest WoW Midnight hotfix, shard drops have become very consistent, so there's no need to hold onto them for better gear.
Prioritize upgrading your weapon. For most classes, weapons are the top priority, offering the greatest efficiency. Next are core trinkets for certain specializations. Helmets, shoulders, and rings are not considered.
The target item using an Ascendant Voidcore must already be at its maximum upgrade level. Using a Voidcore will mark the target item as Ascendant Voidforged, preventing further upgrades.
This concludes the article on how to farm and use Ascendant Voidshards after WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5. Hopefully, this helps you better understand the mechanics and upgrade your weapons.
