The gear catch-up mechanic for alt characters in WoW Midnight Season 1 has been significantly simplified. Starting from character level cap, it only takes a few hours to raise Item Level to a level sufficient to challenge High-Level Mythic+ dungeons.
This efficiency is thanks to the removal of Crest Caps in the mid-to-late season, many repeatable catch-up resources, and an efficient ladder between delves and Mythic Plus dungeons.
It's important to note beforehand that while there are multiple gear acquisition methods in WoW Midnight Season 1, not all are worth the time investment. The following content is divided into four levels: preparation, resource usage strategy, core upgrade path, and efficiency assessment, each based on proven efficiency in actual gameplay.
Preparation
Before starting alt gear upgrades in WoW Midnight Season 1, you should prioritize completing warband crest cost reductions for crest upgrades. This step determines the resource efficiency of all subsequent upgrade actions.
Crests Reduction
The core of the crests reduction mechanism lies in Hero of the Dawn achievements series: Adventurer of the Dawn, Veteran of the Dawn, Champion of the Dawn, Hero of the Dawn, and Myth of the Dawn. After unlocking the corresponding achievements, the crests required to upgrade the corresponding gear for all characters within your warband are reduced from 20 to 10.
For most alt characters, Hero of the Dawn is the most crucial milestone. The condition for achieving this is upgrading every piece of Hero gear on the main character or any other character to the maximum level.
Once the main character has completed high-level Mythic Plus dungeons, the amount of Hero crests acquired is sufficient to support maxing out all Hero gear.
If the main character has not yet completed Hero of the Dawn, it is recommended to spend a small amount of time completing it first; otherwise, the crests cost for subsequent Hero gear upgrades will double, significantly lengthening the time required to complete the upgrade.
The Necessity of Mythic Crests Reduction
Myth of the Dawn requires a character Item Level of 285. For a purely alt character aiming for rapid gear progression, this isn't strictly necessary, as upgrade materials for Myth gear can be obtained through other means in later gear acquisition strategies.
Resource Usage Strategy
In WoW Midnight Season 1, many resources should be used immediately; hoarding them will only slow down gear progression.
Gear Crafting Materials
Using Spark of Radiance and its derivative Radiant Spark Dust, up to six pieces of gear with an Item Level of 259 can be crafted for free without consuming crests.
When an alt character hasn't obtained a certain piece of gear after multiple dungeons or delves, craft that piece directly. The base Item Level for gear crafting is sufficient to support the character entering +10 keystone dungeons.
Catalyst Charging Materials
Dawnlight Manaflux is used to convert regular gear into set pieces. Once the key achievement "Midnight Season 1 Catalyst Unbound" is unlocked, all characters will receive bonus Manaflux drops with no drop cap. Once an alt character has collected any four pieces of gear (of any quality), they can activate the set bonus directly using Catalyst Charges.
Voidshard and Weapon/Trinket Upgrades
Ascendant Voidshard can upgrade Hero or Myth gear trinkets and weapons to a maximum Item Level of 298.
Ascendant Voidshard drops have no cap. It should be used immediately on the current gear, as upgrading older gear doesn't waste resources when better gear is acquired later - upgrading new gear is completely free, as long as the character already has the same upgraded gear slot.
Core Upgrade Path
In WoW Midnight Season 1, the fastest order is: complete all available Bountiful delves first, then enter lower to mid-level Mythic Plus dungeons, and finally focus on higher levels.
First Tier
Starting from when your character reaches the maximum level, check the number of Bountiful delves available that day. Each tier eight delve consumes one key. The key bonus comes from "Beacon of Hope," obtained through Nightmare Preys questline.
Activate the beacon before entering the delves. Defeating the summoned Nullaeus will cause it to drop a treasure map. Using it will grant an additional Hero gear at the end of the delves.
Adding the guaranteed Champion gear from the delves and the Hero gear dropped directly by Nullaeus, a single delve can yield a maximum of two Hero gears and one Champion gear.
If there are six delves that day and all are completed using this method, theoretically, six Hero gears can be obtained. Item Level can jump from just reaching the maximum level to 250-260.
This takes approximately two to three hours. After completing all available Bountiful delves, your Item Level will typically exceed 250, allowing you to safely proceed to the second tier.
Second Tier
After completing the delves, your character's Item Level will be sufficient for +5 to +6 keystone levels. This stage utilizes the 10 Voidcores available per character to selectively complete missing Hero gear pieces.
Check for pieces that are still Champion gear or blank. Consult the dungeon drop list and select the dungeon that covers the most missing pieces to run consecutively, consuming one Voidcore each time. This usually requires four to six dungeon runs, taking approximately one to two hours.
Once all major pieces are Hero gear (or key pieces are no longer Champion gear), you can move on to +10 keystone levels to attempt Myth gear.
Third Tier
Once you have essentially achieved Hero gear and your Item Level exceeds 260, immediately move on to +10 keystone levels. +10 keystone levels and above will guarantee a Myth track gear by consuming extra Voidcore rolls.
Use all remaining Voidcore in +10 keystone level dungeons, prioritizing those that offer the most Myth gear pieces you haven't yet obtained. This takes approximately one to two hours and yields at least six pieces of Myth gear. In WoW Midnight Season 1, Crest Caps have been removed, allowing for unlimited Mythic crests for upgrading.
Efficiency Assessment
Following the above path from max level, the total investment is approximately five to six hours. This estimate assumes you have readily available keys, Voidcore, and delves for a successful group, and no frequent wipes in +10 keystone levels. Even with bad luck, the extra time rarely exceeds two hours. There is no more efficient alternative path in the current version of WoW Midnight Season 1.
Following the above path from max level, you can challenge +12 keystone levels in approximately five to six hours.
Please note that while the gear catch-up path described above is highly efficient, it still requires several hours of focused grinding. To skip the grind entirely and instantly equip your alt for +12 keystone levels, you can buy WoW Midnight Gold from EZG.com. With enough gold, you can craft missing pieces, upgrade your Voidcores, and secure your Hero gear without any delay.
Imagine stepping into Mythic+ dungeons with a full set of optimized gear right from the start. The strategies we covered - Bountiful delves, crest reductions, and tier set activation - become even more powerful when you have the resources to execute them flawlessly. No waiting, no RNG - just results.
