In Subnautica 2, food, water, and healing resources are your most basic and easily scarce needs. Especially in the early stages of exploration, many players frequently have to travel back and forth to their base because of insufficient supplies, even venturing into dangerous areas to search for resources. This not only slows down exploration but also significantly increases the pressure of survival.

As you become more familiar with the game mechanics, you'll discover that Subnautica 2 doesn't entirely rely on gathering resources. The game's plant and cultivation system provides a sustainable resource production method. By establishing a stable cultivation system early on, you can continuously obtain various resources and even further solve your base's energy supply problems.

To truly achieve an infinite resource cycle, there are only two key elements: collecting cultivable plants and unlocking Growbed cultivation facility as quickly as possible. Next, we'll explain how to build a highly efficient and sustainable infinite resource farm system in Subnautica 2.

Gathering Plants

First, you need to understand a key mechanic: plant resources in Subnautica 2 regenerate. Once a cultivation cycle is established, true sustainable development can be achieved. One of your most important tasks in the ancient game of Subnautica 2 is to collect as many plantable plants as possible.

Currently, there are eight different plantable plants in Subnautica 2, but we really need four of them. When the game starts, you spawn in a Lifepod. You can use Survival Multitool to explore the cave areas near Lifepod.

In these areas, you can find several special plants, such as Lucifer Rotsac. You can grab the central sphere and break it to get more pulp, which can be used to make grease and rubber.

However, your focus should be on the plantable ones. Macaron Sponge is the most worthwhile plant to collect first because it takes up little space but provides a stable supply of Fibrous Pulp. Note that Fibrous Pulp is almost the core of the entire Subnautica 2 resource cycle.

Acid Rion is also very important because it can be used to craft medical supplies. However, you need to be careful when collecting it: it's best to destroy the outer structure of Acid Rion before taking the central resource, otherwise you will suffer poison damage.

Cradle Shootroots can provide various items such as grease and rubber. Necrolei Cysts only appear in specific areas near your base. You can find them by traveling from Lifepod to the northern region; they can be used to craft Strong Acid.

Note that Cradle Shootroots will not spawn elsewhere in the later stages of Subnautica 2, so you'll need to stock up on them.

Get Growbed

Besides gathering plantable vegetation, you must acquire Growbeds as quickly as possible. A Subnautica 2 Growbed is a cultivation structure that can be placed within a seabase to cultivate various life forms; any organisms growing on it can be harvested. Obtaining a Growbed blueprint requires scanning two Growbed fragments.

Both fragments can be found near alien Research Outpost, located approximately 1,200 meters from Lifepod. This is also an excellent location for establishing a Subnautica 2 base, offering abundant resources and convenient access.

Once you arrive at Research Outpost, you'll need to carry a scanner and scan the two Growbed fragments on building rooftops and in hidden corners. After completing the scan, you can begin building your Subnautica 2 base.

Setting up your Farm

Once your Subnautica 2 base is established, the real resource recycling system begins. You can grow Macaron Sponge and other plants on a large scale in your Growbed. To improve space utilization, I recommend disabling Snapping feature during construction.

Disabling Subnautica 2 snapping allows you to manually place plants and Growbeds more densely, helping you grow more resources in a limited space. As the plants mature, you simply need to harvest and replant to continuously obtain Fibrous Pulp and other resources.

Creating Resources

Next, these materials can be further processed in Subnautica 2 Processor or Fabricator to create various Subnautica 2 Items.

Two Fibrous Pulp are needed to make Oily Salad, used to supplement food. Three Fibrous Pulp can be directly synthesized into drinking water. The medical gel sack and fiber produced by Fibrous Pulp can be further crafted into Enhanced First Aid Kit, which heals up to 100 health points.

Excess materials can be used to create Biofuel Blocks, powering Bioreactor in your Subnautica 2 base. A complete plant farm not only solves the problem of food and shelter but also provides medical and energy services, significantly reducing your survival pressure in the later stages of Subnautica 2.

Storage System

The storage system is crucial for improving efficiency. Tailing Chests in Subnautica 2 can be placed outside your base, allowing you to place chests directly next to your farm. This ensures that harvested materials are immediately stored in the chests, and crafting equipment automatically draws upon these resources, making the entire production process very smooth.

As your farm grows, you'll find that Subnautica 2 gameplay begins to resemble a farming game. Harvest, store, and process, and resources will become increasingly abundant. Because plants in Subnautica 2 respawn quickly, resource shortages are rarely a problem.

This unlimited resource system is one of the most stable and efficient survival methods in Subnautica 2. It not only reduces the time players spend searching for resources but also makes base construction easier and more flexible. 

Whether you're a new player or a veteran exploring the deep sea later in the game, it's highly recommended to establish your own plant farm as early as possible, gradually transforming your base from a simple shelter into a self-sufficient resource center.
