Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC Hype: Mystery Update & Anniversary Tease Point to Summer Game Fest Reveal

Dragon's Dogma 2 anniversary image teased a mysterious new Beastren and northern region hints, while a puzzling 77GB backend update that later shed 10GB has reignited DLC speculation.

Apr 30, 2026 Author: EZG

Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC is finally coming, and many believe it might be announced at this year's summer gaming festival.

The official Dragon's Dogma 2 account's pinned tweet is still from September 2024 patch, when we were still hoping for a DLC announcement. And since the departure of game director Hideaki Itsuno, we haven't received any official announcements, confirmations, or teasers regarding DLC.Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC Hype: Mystery Update & Anniversary Tease Point to Summer Game Fest Reveal

But this hasn't stopped fans from anticipating news. Now, new developments related to the game further confirm player speculation: the official team is preparing for an upcoming DLC release.

Anniversary Image

It all started with an image. On March 22nd, the previously dormant official Dragon's Dogma 2 account posted an anniversary image to celebrate the game's second anniversary.

They said they prepared this special commemorative image and thanked everyone for their support. Surprisingly, the post garnered nearly 1 million views. Clearly, the game still has a large player base.

This image includes all the main characters from the game, as well as various important NPCs that players can interact with. It might just be an image released to commemorate the anniversary of a game released two years ago, so what does it mean to us?

There are two aspects of this anniversary image worth noting. First, the characters. Almost all the characters appear in the center of the image, and they are all familiar faces. However, if you look closely at the back left, you'll find an unfamiliar character.

Beastren, dressed in blue, has his back to the camera. This outfit doesn't seem to appear in the game, and his hairstyle is completely unfamiliar. He's also the only character with his back to the camera, making him stand out.

An unidentified character with his back to everyone else, different clothing, different hairstyle - this inevitably sparks our imagination and anticipation.

Secondly, we notice the note on the table. Someone on the forum translated the note's content as Sightings of griffins flying in from the northern region of Organ have been confirmed.

This refers to the previously unknown northern region, as if someone has scouted there and discovered signs of life. Previously, hints about the northern continent appeared on the loading screen.

It's said that an ancient kingdom once inhabited the north, but records of its existence are scarce, and contact with its people has been lost for over a century.

Meanwhile, significant amounts of magical energy have been detected on the northern edge of Vermund, but its origin remains unclear.

Official Recruitment Information

Official recruitment information reveals they are hiring an assistant producer for core series such as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Dragon's Dogma. This confirms that Dragon's Dogma remains a core series.

They may still be investing in Dragon's Dogma series to some extent. Whether it's laying the groundwork for a title like Dragon's Dogma 3, or DLC or other new content, we eagerly await it.

Latest Backend Update

Most importantly, DD2 recently received a major update. This update didn't affect the game itself but modified game files and data.

It's worth noting that this update totaled 77GB, while Dragon's Dogma 2 is currently only 65GB on Steam, which is truly puzzling. Whatever this update is, it's significantly larger than 65GB game itself.

However, a later update removed 10GB of content. The most common speculation is that this removed 10GB is related to upcoming Dragon's Dogma 2 content. While this could also be an official oversight, considering they've been hinting at DLC for the past month, this seems unlikely.

Many people obviously hope it's the long-awaited DLC. If a DLC only adds one new area, its size should be about one-sixteenth of the base game.

We can also imagine that they've added several new classes, new game areas, new loot and Dragons Dogma 2 Gold rewards, along with a bunch of new enemy types, bosses, story content, etc., but they'll likely use a lot of assets from the base game and integrate them in various ways. In short, I think 10GB is a reasonable size.

Based on the past performance of Dragon's Dogma series, there's reason to believe that the potential DLC for Dragon's Dogma 2 could be quite massive.

The original Dragon's Dogma received a DLC called Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, which added a significant amount of new content. Assuming Dragon's Dogma 2 receives similar DLC, it could potentially revolutionize the familiar gaming experience.

Announcement Time

The official focus is likely on the recently released Pragmata. With Pragmata's hype fading, their 2026 game lineup seems somewhat thin. To fill this gap, they will probably announce Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC in the coming weeks, aiming for a release before the end of 2026.

The upcoming Summer Game Fest would be a good option. It's an excellent venue for game announcements and new content reveals, taking place from June 5th to 8th.

While there could be many plausible explanations, this is unrelated to new content or DLC. The anniversary illustration gave me a conspiracy theory vibe, but their confirmation that Dragon's Dogma remains a core title, along with a surprise update containing new game files and a 10GB rough draft, is undeniable. This reignites our real hope for Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC.
