With Path of Exile 2 update approaching, discussions about version 0.5.0 are heating up in the player community. Although no official announcement has been made, based on the development schedule and experience, the first batch of image-based trailers is likely to appear soon.
How Path of Exile 2 0.5.0 will reshape Endgame experience has become the most talked-about topic. From League Mechanics to Atlas Skill Tree Rework, from Boss Types to Class Supplements, various speculations are emerging.
This article attempts to summarize several widely circulated predictions in the community, but it should be noted in advance that all the following content is based on personal analysis and deduction and has no official validity. The actual update content is subject to the official final announcement.
In Path of Exile 2 economy, Currency Items play a crucial role. Whether it's advanced crafting or daily trading, the stable acquisition and reasonable consumption of Path of Exile 2 Currency remains the core focus for players. Whether version 0.5.0 will introduce new sources of Currency or crafting methods will directly affect the entire game's economic ecosystem.

Back to Basics
Looking back at the previous League, while Vaal Temple mechanic was deep, its learning curve was steep. Players either needed to carefully study external guides and map layouts or spend a significant amount of time trying and failing on their own.
This high barrier to entry wasn't universally appreciated in Path of Exile 2. Therefore, the next League mechanic is highly likely to shift towards a lower learning curve and smoother gameplay. Specifically, it should meet two characteristics: first, the rules should be intuitive - simply enter, fight monsters, and collect rewards; second, the core content should take place within the map, without interrupting the map-clearing rhythm.
From the historical Leagues of Path of Exile 1, two highly compatible candidates can be found: Bestiary League and the Legion League. The former spawns special beasts on the map, which can be killed and captured for subsequent crafting; the latter involves clicking on a Monolith, releasing Statue Monsters, and killing them in batches to obtain loot. Both are quite simple.
Considering that in the current version, with the removal of Homogenization Orbs, high-end crafting methods have decreased, while ordinary crafting is relatively weak, introducing a League mechanism centered on crafting seems reasonable.
Even if the Legion League itself isn't known for crafting, by drawing inspiration from the Abyss League, the Legion can be completely transformed into a crafting-themed system. The new mechanism will probably inject fresh blood into the item crafting chain.
Tailor-made
Currently, most players believe that the middle nodes of Atlas Skill Tree are almost non-existent, and while the outer nodes have an impact, they are far from transformative. Regardless of Endgame playstyle chosen, Skill Tree's node selection is highly similar, lacking differentiated strategic fun.
This contrasts sharply with Skill Tree experience in Path of Exile 1, where players could choose to specialize in specific areas. In the original, you could deeply specialize in specific League mechanics like Abyss League and Ritual League, allowing Skill Tree to truly serve your individual playstyle preferences.
Some speculated that version 0.5.0 would merge the three smaller trees into one large tree, but this might sacrifice the current interface's cleanliness. The current separate layout is clear and efficient for searching, far superior to the somewhat cluttered global tree of the first version.
A more reasonable approach would be to retain the existing partitioning format but significantly enhance the influence of the central nodes, while allowing players to invest more points in specific mechanics for tangible benefits.
For example, setting prerequisite node thresholds would force players to make trade-offs, leading to different specialization paths. This maintains visual elegance while allowing for diverse endgame strategies for different players using different trees.
Striving for Refinement
Similar gameplay involving abnormal bosses already exists in the current version of Path of Exile 2. These areas require players to clear several surrounding maps before entering the core boss fight and obtaining unique rewards. Mansion in Mists goes further, requiring the completion of a series of evil areas.
This Map Chain-final reward structure is highly similar to Eigan memory map in Path of Exile 1. The development team has explicitly stated in interviews that they are proud of Eigan map design and see it as a direction for future content.
One approach is to continue the boss fight mode, where completing a Map Chain leads to a challenging anomalous boss; the other is to borrow Star Chart design from the original League, changing the final node to a non-combat Vault that provides a large onetime reward.
Both approaches effectively encourage players to actively explore branching areas on the map atlas, rather than just focusing on the most efficient route. This is a promising addition to the diversity of Endgame content in Path of Exile 2.
Turning Stone into Gold
In earlier versions, Towers were the core of obtaining rewards, and players would deliberately take detours to reach them. However, with Tablets dropping directly onto the map, Towers' primary function has been reduced to merely Insert Grand Plan and Reveal Vision.
For most players, even the complete disappearance of Towers wouldn't be a cause for regret. This marginalization is clearly not what the designers intended.
The changes shouldn't simply focus on increasing the juice level of the surrounding map - that would be a return to the old path of Three Tower Meta.
A more reasonable approach is to allow Towers to offer unique operational options or mini-gameplay, such as granting the surrounding map a strategic adjustment after completing a brief event within a Tower, or unlocking a temporary Path of Exile 2 Currency buff.
The key is to encourage players to actively incorporate Towers into their route planning, rather than viewing them as a burden. Substantial optimization in this area in version 0.5.0 would significantly improve the pace of Endgame map clearing.
New Classes and New Weapons
Judging from the update schedule, each major patch from 0.5.0 to 1.0 will most likely include a new class. Currently, Path of Exile 2 features Witch, Sorcerer, Monk, Hunter, Ranger, Merchant, Warrior, and Druid. Templar, Raider, Duelist, and Shadow are yet to be released.
Templar recently received a Holy Skills update in the original game, perhaps in preparation for a port. Shadow was vaguely mentioned in official promotions, but this seems more like a general teaser than a concrete hint.
Regarding weapon types, many players are anticipating the return of swords, and Duelist is precisely the representative sword-wielding class. Combined with the hype surrounding Endgame overhaul, a Duelist wielding a blade could generate considerable buzz and novelty.
Of course, this is largely based on intuition and lacks concrete evidence. Regardless of whether it's Duelist, Templar, or Shadow, a new class will inevitably be accompanied by a new weapon type, directly affecting the gear market and the flow of Path of Exile 2 Currency - the value of a Perfect Sword Base could be rapidly driven up in the early stages of the expansion, even approaching the exchange rate of Mirror of Kalandra.
Highly Anticipated
Based on leaked behind-the-scenes footage, Arcane Archer's image has appeared in background art, making it the strongest candidate for the 0.5.0 Ascendancy class. While another candidate, Wildspeaker, has been mentioned, its low profile suggests it may not be released simultaneously.
It's expected that there will be at least two new Ascendancy classes, with Arcane Archer being one, and the other possibly being Wildspeaker or another unrevealed design. The addition of Ascendancy often activates less popular skills and gear combinations, further enriching Endgame Builds.
Based on the above analysis, Path of Exile 2 version 0.5.0 is highly likely to bring: a simple in-game League mechanic focused on crafting; a more specialized Atlas Skill Tree; an anomaly boss or vault gameplay based on Map Chain; enhanced usability of Towers system; a new class and its corresponding weapon; and at least two new Ascendancy items. Of course, balance adjustments and minor mechanic optimizations will also be included.
It must be emphasized again that all judgments in this article are personal predictions, and the actual update is subject to official announcements. Version 0.5.0 will be a significant milestone in the development of Path of Exile 2, and the supply and demand changes of currencies such as Divine Orb are something every Exile should pay attention to in advance.
