With Gamescom 2026 in full swing, the atmosphere surrounding Path of Exile 2 is reminiscent of the period leading up to its official launch. New information is emerging one after another, with a leaked gameplay video from Gamescom showcasing the new sword-based combat in Patch 1.0.

Based on the currently revealed gameplay, swords in Path of Exile 2 appear to feature very pronounced combo gameplay. Parry, charge, stance, and the seamless transitions between skills are likely to be crucial components of the sword-based gameplay.

This gameplay might be very interesting in POE 2 campaign, but by Patch 1.0 endgame, will we really have enough time and space to execute these combos?

Sword

From the content revealed at Gamescom, Duelist utilizes numerous sword moves, and clear combo transitions can be seen during combat. Besides Patch 1.0 sword gameplay, the official Path of Exile 2 team also showcased some monsters and bosses we hadn't seen before.

Some areas resembled Coliseum, and monsters resembling Hell Hounds appeared, capable of breathing fire from above; these are likely content from Act 5. Notably, sword attacks aren't simply a continuous stream of POE 2 skills. Many skills appear to have a charge up process, and their effects vary depending on your current state.

Based on the skill descriptions shown at Gamescom, sword gameplay will largely revolve around Parry, charging abilities, and chaining skills - these are currently the areas you should focus on most.

You can use the middle mouse button for parry, enter Blood Stance with the right mouse button, and then unleash a Blood Wave with the left mouse button. Other skills will also gain additional effects during Blood Stance.

If you use two swords, it seems you can gain Blood Stance; entering this state will also change the effects of other sword skills. Another direction is Sand Stance, which seems to lean more towards charge up gameplay. You need to build up power before unleashing your skill to deliver a stronger attack.

Cyclone

Of all the content showcased for Path of Exile 2 at Gamescom, Cyclone is undoubtedly one of the most exciting parts for players. Based on the current skill gem information, Cyclone doesn't require charges; it primarily consumes mana.

Cyclone also has a unique mechanic: if you pass over a Ground Surface with an Elemental Effect, you may absorb the corresponding POE 2 ground effect and transfer it to enemies hit by Cyclone.

For example, when you pass over Chilled Ground, Cyclone can absorb this effect, subsequently inflicting the corresponding Chilled Ground debuff on enemies hit.

Current information on POE 2 Patch 1.0 also indicates that Cyclone requires the use of dual swords or a single two-handed sword. This also means you might not use Cyclone while equipped with a shield or buckler, and Giant's Blood may also be restricted.

Giant's Blood is the keystone in Path of Exile 2 that allows characters to use two-handed weapons. Therefore, if Cyclone itself requires dual swords or a single two-handed sword, then equipping two two-handed weapons while using Giant's Blood might prevent you from continuing to use Cyclone.

Of course, these limitations still need to be confirmed after Patch 1.0 is officially released. Additionally, Cyclone will exhibit different changes under Blood Stance and Sand Stance. Blood Stance allows skills to generate Blood Waves.

Sand Stance, on the other hand, releases Sand Discs in the first few seconds of POE 2 Channeling. This indicates that Stance is not simply a matter of attribute switching, but may directly alter the attack method of sword skills.

Endgame

The real issue worth discussing in POE 2 Patch 1.0 isn't how flashy sword skills look, but whether combo gameplay can adapt to Path of Exile 2 endgame. In campaigns, this design easily made combat more engaging. You needed to observe enemy movements, parry, choose the appropriate stance, and then follow up with a skill.

For players who enjoy more strategic gameplay, this was clearly more interesting than simply repeatedly spamming skills. But POE 2 endgame is a different story. As characters level up, monster density, character damage, and skill range all increase.

Entering the map means facing numerous monsters, various mechanics, and the need to quickly farm Path of Exile 2 Currency. If every attack requires parrying, charging, and switching stances, the operational cost of combos could become too high.

This is currently the biggest problem facing sword design. When Huntress was first released in POE 2, some players already expressed dissatisfaction with parrying and combo-based gameplay. 

However, Parry is already a fairly strong mechanic, and it's not absolutely necessary to play in POE 2 endgame. Therefore, we can't immediately conclude that sword will become a burden just because it emphasizes combos.

Another crucial issue is that Gamescom Gameplay doesn't fully represent the character strength of Patch 1.0. The characters used for demonstrations are usually pre-built builds, and gameplay demos are often adjusted to be more difficult. Meanwhile, sword final stats, skill scaling, and balance are clearly not yet fully determined.

Therefore, seeing sword require combos now doesn't mean you must stick to the full combo to fight monsters in Patch 1.0. Character growth in Path of Exile 2 is inherently very high. As the build matures, skill damage and range will change significantly.

Even if sword requires careful play in the early stages of POE 2, it's possible to clear large groups of monsters with a single skill combo in the late game.

If combos primarily serve as additional damage output during campaigns and boss fights, while the basic skills themselves still possess sufficient damage and mob-clearing capabilities, then this playstyle might become a defining characteristic of sword, rather than a limitation.

Path of Exile 2 1.0 - Officially Launching on December 11th

For PoE 2 players, the biggest news from Gamescom this year was undoubtedly the confirmed release date for Patch 1.0.

GGG announced that PoE 2 will end its Early Access phase and enter Patch 1.0 on December 11, 2026. Simultaneously, Patch 1.0 will bring a more systematic adjustment to the full campaign, character progression, and Endgame.

More importantly, with Patch 1.0, PoE 2 will officially become free-to-play, adding a new sword-wielding class, Duelist, and the remaining two Acts will also be added to the game.

This means that December 11th is not just a regular seasonal update, but a true restart for PoE 2 after its Early Access phase.

In the past period, players have had extensive discussions about class balance, build depth, gear drops, and Endgame pacing. The final patch incorporates adjustments to the campaign, progression, and endgame systems all at once, making Patch 1.0 potentially one of the best points for veteran players to rebuild their builds and for new players to officially join the game.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation - Spring 2027

Square Enix presents Final Chapter of Final Fantasy VII Remake Project - Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

Gamescom's latest trailer, The Planet's Crisis, focuses on Weapons familiar to fans of the original games, including massive enemies like Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultima Weapon. Meanwhile, Cloud and his companions will explore a wider world aboard Highwind airship.

If Remake rebuilt Midgar, and Rebirth truly opened up the world, then Revelation serves to conclude the entire remake trilogy.

Currently confirmed information indicates that Highwind is more than just a plot device. Players can pilot airships across the world and choose locations to land and explore; Cid and Vincent will also join as playable party members, and combat will continue the combination of real-time action and a command system.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is planned for release in Spring 2027, and unlike the previous two installments, it is expected to launch simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

For players who have already played Remake and Rebirth, the real question now may only be one: Will Square Enix ultimately remain faithful to the ending of the 1997 original, or will they allow this altered timeline to reach a completely different conclusion?

Rainbow Six Tactics - Rainbow Six's First Fully Turn-Based Gameplay

Ubisoft also brought a rather unexpected new title to Gamescom - Rainbow Six Tactics, expected to launch in 2027.

It's not a new mode for Rainbow Six Siege, but a standalone single-player turn-based tactical game. Players will take on the role of Six, the commander of Rainbow forces, planning missions from headquarters, selecting operators, and then executing operations on the battlefield.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will include 15 operators with unique abilities, equipment, and skill trees, over 45 global operational locations, and various mission types such as hostage rescue, bomb disposal, and target elimination.

This direction is actually quite suitable for Rainbow Six. From the series' early emphasis on planning, intelligence, and teamwork, to Siege's reliance on operator skills to create tactical variations, Rainbow Six inherently possesses a strong strategy game DNA.

Now, Ubisoft has temporarily set aside shooting mechanics and placed operator combinations, mission planning, and battlefield decision-making at the core, which gives them the opportunity to revive the tactical command that the series had gradually faded in the past.

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past - Geralt Hasn't Truly Retired

If you thought CD Projekt Red(CDPR) had completely ended content updates for The Witcher 3, then this year at Gamescom, it's clear they're preparing to keep Geralt on the team for a few more years.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past is the third full-fledged expansion for The Witcher 3, developed by CD Projekt Red in collaboration with Fool's Theory, and is scheduled for release in 2027.

CDPR envisions it as much more than just adding a few quests. Songs of the Past will introduce a new area, Letten, new enemies, new abilities, and new weapons, and the official description is Geralt's final adventure.

From the perspective of the series' timeline, this also resembles an adventure before the official handover - before The Witcher 4 enters the new phase dominated by Ciri, players can embark on one last journey as Geralt.

The Witcher 3 Remastered - Free Upgrade on September 29th

While waiting for the new expansion, CDPR is also planning to have everyone reinstall The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered will launch on September 29, 2026, offering upgraded graphics, performance, and gameplay compared to the original release. This includes more detailed environments, NPC and monster textures, and improvements to lighting, rendering, and ray tracing.

In addition to the new weapon type, Duelist trailer showcases a faster-paced melee combat style characterized by highly mobile attack and defense mechanics, as well as various new combat effects.

Duelist

As seen in the trailer, unlike some of the traditional melee classes in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients that rely on heavy attacks and a slower combat pace, Duelist shown in the trailer seems to emphasize speed, positioning, and continuous movement.

From the gameplay demo, we can see that Duelist primarily uses swords in combat, allowing for movement while attacking. Their skills unleash wide-range melee attacks, balancing defense and offense.

For veteran Path of Exile 2 players, Duelist seems poised to offer a more advantageous melee experience. Traditional ARPG melee builds often rely heavily on a balance between damage output, survivability, and mob clearing speed.

Duelist allows players to maintain mobility in melee combat, unlike some current classes that require standing still to attack.

Swords

The introduction of new swords is just as important as the arrival of Duelist.

Prior to this announcement, players had already experienced various weapon types in Early Access, but swords remained a highly anticipated missing element. With the imminent release of Path of Exile 2 1.0, the developers have finally brought this classic weapon type into the weapon system.

As we all know, Patch 1.0 is likely to be the largest patch in PoE 2's history, expected to be released later this year.

It's a fantastic game, but it's far from perfect, so we need to have an honest discussion about the game's issues and which must be addressed before its official release. Without resolving these problems, it will be difficult to satisfy players.

This article will detail the areas of Path of Exile 2 that need improvement before Patch 1.0 arrives.

Balance Imbalance

PoE 2 allocates too many power resources to gears, especially with a few incredibly powerful affixes. We've all experienced this - a single powerful weapon upgrade can completely transform your character. While this sounds great, it creates serious balance issues.

So, Grinding Gear Games must consider the potential for players to gain massive power spikes before balancing monster strength. Because once players reach a certain level of power, the game becomes unchallenging.

I believe there's a better way to allocate this power: invest more in Passive Skill Tree, Ascendancy classes, and systems accessible to all players, rather than just gears and affixes.

Why is this important? Because it gives GGG a more comprehensive game balance baseline. If every player gains some power from Passive Skill Tree, they'll have a general idea of ​​what level they'll reach when building a reasonable character. Gears will then become a motivator for builds, not the deciding factor.

Ascendancy Classes

Ask yourself, what's the coolest moment in your character's progression? Many would say Ascension. Because you completed those challenging trials, chose your Ascendancy class, and your character suddenly gained new power.

Many have long anticipated Ascendancy, but I've found that some Ascendancy options simply don't provide enough of that experience.

For example, Infernalist's mechanics rely heavily on the old summon/fire system, and compared to the faster, more complex endgame environment, some gameplay feels less smooth. Also, Blood Mage's biggest problem isn't a lack of power, but rather the high design cost of its resource and life mechanics. In the current environment, the investment and return are sometimes mismatched.

I'm not asking every Ascendancy to be overpowered. I just want them to be fun. Give me choices. Give me unique interactions. Give me mechanics unique to each Ascendancy that define character building. Give me a reason to sit there staring at my Ascendancy tree and think about which option is the right one.

Melee Problem

I think there are too few melee options in Path of Exile 2. While not all melee builds are weak, they generally feel slightly weaker than ranged characters. This is because ranged characters have a significant advantage: they can stay away from monsters. This creates a huge defensive barrier and makes the gameplay smoother.

Melee builds have to be close to damage sources, and the penalties are too severe. As well as weak melee defense system makes the melee experience terrible. This needs some fundamental changes before Patch 1.0 is released.

Visual Clarity

The visuals in PoE 2 have always been chaotic, and I can tell GGG has been working on it, but without much success. Many players have complained about the clutter, saying they have no idea how they died.

The problem stems from the sheer number of skills, particle effects, and explosions appearing simultaneously on screen, along with overlapping ground effects. The sheer volume of flashy effects stacked together sometimes makes it difficult for players to even locate their characters.

The solution isn't to make everything ugly and boring, but rather to reduce the number of projectiles while increasing the power of each, or to give players better control over what they see and reduce effects that are irrelevant to their own actions.

Challenging Content

Adding more challenging content to Patch 1.0 would be a perfect fit for Path of Exile 2. Many players want challenges that require skill, not just pure damage output. Bosses like Arbiter of Ash would be excellent - because they demand skill.

I think Patch 1.0 could include more of this kind of content. More bosses, more content that players could dedicate an entire season to. Most importantly, I want something that truly makes sense to push a character's limits.

Endgame Content

GGG has clearly stated that the endgame content isn't entirely as they envisioned, and they've identified some very noticeable flaws, including a lack of direction for new players entering the endgame and a lack of consistent map layout.

The upcoming Patch 0.5.5 should address these issues. If feedback on the endgame content is poor, the developers will consider delaying the release of Patch 1.0. If players unanimously agree that the endgame content is significantly improved, it means the end of Early Access is not far off.

GGG has confirmed when players will get their first full look at Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5, with an update livestream scheduled for August 27 at 12:30 PM Pacific Time. Considering the livestream's scale and previous information, Patch 0.5.5 is likely to be more than just a routine mid-season adjustment.

Currently, several aspects of PoE 2 do require significant adjustments. Since Patch 0.5, the strength gap between different builds has become increasingly pronounced. 

Atlas designs are increasing the burden of repetitive map runs, and Tablets are creating more and more additional preparation costs because of frequent trading, filtering, and organization.

If these issues can be addressed in Patch 0.5.5, this update will be substantial.

Build Balance

The official team has mentioned character balance multiple times before, so Patch 0.5.5 will probably focus on builds, character experience, and overall balance, potentially involving adjustments to Passive Skill Tree, Ascendancy, skills, and Unique Items.

Recent patches have seen a concentration of powerful builds, with a widening gap in endgame performance between different skills. Some builds maintain consistent strength from early game to higher-level maps, while others fall significantly behind in the endgame.

It's not uncommon for strong builds to appear in patches for PoE 2, but over-concentration limits build research and customization options.

Chaos Damage and Ignite

Nerfs are inevitable, but buffs are also worth considering. Chaos Damage and Ignite are likely to be the focus of this buff.

The issues surrounding these two systems have been discussed extensively within PoE 2 community. While both are playable in the early to mid-game, they become increasingly difficult to use compared to mainstream builds in the late game.

Patch 0.5.5 is a good time to adjust Chaos, Ignite, and some long-neglected skills if it aims to reshape build choices. The same applies to low-usage Unique Items.

Rather than adding more purely stat-based gear, I'd prefer to see older Unique Items given new mechanics, providing players with a proper reason to build a new build around them.

5-mod jewels

5-mod jewels are likely to be included in Patch 0.5.5's adjustment list. Currently, some jewels can be repeatedly rerolled using PoE 2 Chaos Orb, retaining one side's prefix or suffix. This crafting method significantly lowers the barrier to entry for high-end jewels. Based on the current mechanics, Chaos Orb not properly resetting some affixes is likely to be fixed.

Whether the official stance will continue to lower the overall strength of 5-mod Jewels is currently uncertain. It's not surprising that high-end gear has a high skill ceiling; the real issue is that its acquisition threshold has been lowered too much.

When top-tier jewels become consistently obtainable, they easily transform from a rare pursuit into a standard feature of high-end builds. It wouldn't be surprising if Patch 0.5.5 adjusted both crafting methods and stats.

Atlas

In Patch 0.5.5, I hope PoE 2 will seriously address Atlas.

Currently, some Atlas nodes no longer just increase rewards but directly determine whether certain basic drops will appear. However, some rewards only enter the drop pool after the corresponding node is selected. New players who haven't researched beforehand might spend a long time farming only to realize they've been missing items.

This deviates somewhat from the original purpose of Atlas. The endgame Passive Skill Tree should allow players to decide what they want to focus on farming, but now some nodes seem mandatory; not selecting them means missing out on normal rewards.

The inability to close nodes is also a problem. Some talents increase difficulty or alter the original mechanics, making them unfriendly to certain builds. If you find something unsuitable after selecting a talent, there's no convenient way to adjust it in Patch 0.5.4.

If Patch 0.5.5 makes these nodes easier to reset or allows players to manually toggle them on and off, Atlas will be much more flexible to use. This adjustment space is especially important in hardcore mode.

Tablets

If the endgame system is indeed being changed, Tablets will be difficult to bypass.

Currently, cities already offer extra rewards and can collect four Tablets simultaneously, making them significantly more efficient than regular map areas.

High-yield areas naturally attract more players, but if everyone concentrates on cities when farming Atlas, other areas easily become transitional content. Four Tablets are therefore likely to be one target of this adjustment.

However, four Tablets are just one of the many problems with Tablets now; the user experience itself is more troublesome. Before farming, you need to organize your inventory, filter affixes, check remaining attempts, and often need to trade at other players' hideouts.

Powerful tablets are expensive, while regular tablets are difficult to process individually, easily accumulating in the inventory. This mechanism means that in PoE 2, map preparation alone consumes a significant amount of time that could be used for farming.

Making tablets closer to Scarab of PoE 1 is a common approach. If the effects can be standardized, trading and organization will be much simpler. Current tablets still retain designs from the early Tower system, but the map system has undergone multiple adjustments, resulting in some disconnect between the two.

Following Path of Exile 2 0.5.4, Mark to Win Build underwent a significant adjustment for Endgame environment.

This update goes beyond simply increasing the build's base damage; it also adjusts weapons, attack speed, mana sustain, defense mechanics, and Passive Tree, allowing Mark to Win to better adapt to current high-difficulty endgame content.

Compared to previous builds that solely pursued maximum base damage, this update emphasizes a balance between attack speed, mana sustain, defense, and sustained damage output.

For players at this stage, the previous Mark to Win build's sacrifice of survivability for maximum base damage is no longer suitable. The updated build maintains high damage output while improving the character's sustained combat ability and stability in high-difficulty Grand Expedition battles.

How It Works?

The core of the updated Mark to Win Build lies in maintaining high attack speed and stable projectile damage while balancing the increasing resource consumption after upgrades.

Higher projectile skill levels, additional projectile count, and Legacy of Quill Rain boost overall damage and mob clearing speed, while Mana Remnants, Clarity, and defense mechanics help maintain sustained damage output.

This balance is far more important than exaggerated damage numbers.

Weapon Adjustments

This is arguably one of the most significant changes to Mark to Win build.

The previous weapon had a fatal flaw: a 50% reduced projectile range, making it difficult for your character to maintain a safe distance from enemies in PoE2 combat and limiting Kite's abilities.

However, the new weapon configuration effectively solves this problem. Legacy of Quill Rain, a rune that can be socketed into the bow, further enhances the build's attack speed, allowing the character to maintain safer ranged attacks while better utilizing their inherent ranged attack advantage.

The main effects of Legacy of Quill Rain are:

• 50% increased Attack Speed
• 20% less Attack Damage

Acquisition Method

Legacy of Quill Rain cannot be obtained through random drops in Path of Exile 2 0.5.0; you can only craft it using Aldur's Legacy rune.

First, you need a Unique Bow - Quill Rain and an Aldur's Legacy. Socket Aldur's Legacy into Quill Rain, which will break and generate Legacy of Quill Rain rune.

Additional Projectiles

Mark to Win BD's gloves have also been upgraded. The latest configuration includes a 57% chance to Fire an additional Projectile, allowing Mark to Win to generate additional Projectiles more frequently in actual combat. This means that in Path of Exile 2, you can essentially fire four projectiles at once.

While this upgrade doesn't completely change BD's original damage structure, it significantly improves your efficiency in clearing large groups of dense monsters.

Higher-Level Eye Shot

Absent Amulets have been reintroduced in Mark to Win. Unlike before, this addition brings more Spirits and a higher Projectile Skill Level. As compensation, it also increases Mana consumption.

This resource pressure isn't noticeable in normal maps because characters can maintain combat tempo through high attack speed and quick enemy kills. However, when you enter high-difficulty endgame content like Grand Expedition, enemy health and combat duration increase significantly, making mana maintenance solely based on kill efficiency insufficient.

Therefore, you'll need a more stable mana sustain system to maintain your combat continuity.

Mana Remnants

To address resource recovery, the latest Mark to Win build configuration includes Mana Remnants, combined with other resource management mechanisms such as Ghost Dance and Clarity. This combination improves mana sustainability while preserving the build's defensive capabilities.

This adjustment is crucial because no one wants the ever-increasing attack speed to become a resource burden. If your Mana is constantly depleted quickly, then attack speed and higher-level Eye Shots won't truly translate into consistent combat damage.

Because in the latest Mark to Win build, Mana Sustain is also a core component of the build, not a minor issue that can be addressed later.

Communion

As you add more skills to your build, Spirit will also become a new problem.

To address this, you can add Communion to Wind Dancer. This significantly reduces the pressure on Spirit, but at the cost of reserving some life, as Communion consumes approximately 292 life.

Mind Eraser

The changes to Jewel configuration are equally important for Mark to Win builds.

Removing the previously used Serrated Aegis and using Jewel with Mind Eraser, while retaining Shattering, provides a 20% increased Damage with Hits against Rare and Unique Enemies.

This jewelry setup not only further enhances the build's offensive capabilities, including attack speed and bow-related damage, but also alleviates mana pressure.

The crafting cost of all the aforementioned equipment is approximately several hundred Divine Orbs.
