Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5 Could Arrive in Late August: The Final Test Before Patch 1.0

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5 could be the biggest test before 1.0. A new economy reset may reveal problems with crafting, builds, and endgame systems. Here's what GGG might change and why this update could shape the future of PoE 2.

Aug 06, 2026 Author: EZG

As Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5 nears completion, discussions about Patch 0.5.5 are heating up. Currently, it's highly likely this Patch will launch between late August and early September, simultaneously launching a new economic event lasting approximately one month.

Many players are calling this update a league reset, but based on GGG's past practices, it's more like a standalone new raiding event. Players will enter a new server, create characters from scratch, accumulate gear, participate in trading, and then choose whether to migrate back to their original league after the event ends.

This model was not uncommon in Path of Exile 1. GGG frequently launched quick events to allow players to relive the feeling of the early league season. 0.5.5 will likely adopt a similar approach, but this time the purpose is more clearly defined - to test whether there are any problems with the current PoE 2 economic system.

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.5 Could Arrive in Late August: The Final Test Before Patch 1.0

A New Economic Environment

Since the release of Patch 0.5, the problem of the game's economy gradually reverting to the old league state has become increasingly apparent.

In the early stages of a league, the market is usually the most vibrant. At this stage, players are just beginning to explore the map, and any valuable equipment and materials are available for trading. However, as the league progresses, a decent rare item may become increasingly valuable due to increased demand, requiring players to spend more PoE 2 Currency to acquire it.

However, as time goes on, the market will gradually be dominated by veteran players. A large influx of high-level equipment into the trading market will make it increasingly difficult for new players to catch up.

Some currently strong PoE 2 builds have established fixed equipment demands, and many players have found that the returns from crafting their own gear are not ideal.

The hard work of farming materials, researching affixes, and investing significant resources may ultimately be less profitable than simply buying a crafted item from the trading market.

Therefore, the new economic activities in Patch 0.5.5 are inevitable. The developers need to observe changes in equipment prices, currency circulation speed, and player progression pace through a renewed exploration phase.

If serious problems persist during the exploration phase after this update, the economical design of Patch 1.0 may be adjusted and modified based on this data.

Crafting System

If I had to guess the most anticipated change in Patch 0.5.5, crafting would definitely be near the top.

The greatest charm of PoE series lies in players' ability to craft their own gear. However, the current crafting experience in PoE 2 is indeed somewhat hesitant.

Many times, crafting gear feels like gambling. Players need to prepare a large amount of materials and then hope for a few suitable affixes to appear randomly. If it fails, almost all the resources invested are lost.

This design works for players aiming for endgame gear, but it's not a very user-friendly experience for ordinary players.

A clear phenomenon in the current market is that many players would rather save up money to buy gear than try crafting themselves. This actually conflicts with the gameplay that PoE wants to encourage.

Therefore, 0.5.5 might adjust the crafting system to make the crafting process more stable. For example, increasing the success rate of some crafting methods, reducing the probability of some extreme random events, or readjusting the value of materials.

The developers probably won't change crafting to a simple click and you're guaranteed good gear approach, as that would lose PoE's biggest feature. However, the current mismatch between investment and return definitely needs improvement.

Build Balance Adjustments

With every major PoE update, class balance is always a top concern for players. This Patch 0.5 has already revealed some clearly dominant builds.

These builds share common characteristics: high damage, strong survivability, excellent map clearing efficiency, and relatively controllable gear requirements.

When a particular build is clearly superior, players naturally flock to it. This is normal for competitive games, but for PoE, which emphasizes exploration and build creation, maintaining this situation long-term is unhealthy.

Therefore, Patch 0.5.5 will probably adjust these popular builds.

Of course, the developers' past habits are also evident; they usually don't just nerf dominant builds. Often, a balance adjustment is accompanied by buffs to less popular skills.

For players, this means they may need to rethink their builds after 0.5.5. However, similarly, some skills that previously seemed unworthy of play might re-emerge because of these adjustments.

Endgame Gameplay

The endgame content in PoE 2, updated to Patch 0.5.4, hasn't yet reached the maturity level of PoE 1 after years of refinement.

Many players have reported that map loops become repetitive in the late game. While some gameplay elements are well-designed, the rewards are not attractive enough, causing players to lose interest after a few runs.

The developers are clearly aware of this issue, and they will probably continue to adjust the endgame in Patch 0.5.5. Issues frequently raised by players, such as map rewards, boss rewards, and node effects, may change.

Especially the rewards for high-difficulty content. Often, tackling higher difficulty maps involves greater risk, but the rewards for players don't increase significantly. If this problem isn't resolved, it will be difficult for players to maintain long-term engagement with endgame gameplay.

Referring to the development path of PoE 1, PoE 2 will undoubtedly continue to expand its endgame system in the future. Patch 0.5.5 may be an early adjustment, laying the foundation for Patch 1.0.

Patch 0.5.5, a Major Test

Based on current information, Patch 0.5.5 won't introduce a completely new, large-scale mechanic like traditional leagues; it's more like a comprehensive check of the existing system.

I'm particularly looking forward to seeing how PoE 2 performs after the economic reset. After all, the most captivating phase of Path of Exile series is the early game, where players start with low-level gear and gradually grow stronger through grinding, trading, and crafting.

If Patch 0.5.5 can make this process fun again, then this test will undoubtedly be a crucial stepping stone for Patch 1.0.
