Many Torchlight Infinite players encounter a problem after reaching TM7 and TM8 in SS13: how should they use their resources?

In the early stages, equipment updates are largely based on drops, and the gameplay is relatively straightforward. However, after reaching TM7, many choices begin to affect subsequent development.

Is a certain mechanic highly rewarding? Should I invest in a star chart? Is it necessary to buy a compass?

These strategies certainly have value, but for free-to-play players who have just entered TM8 from Afterlight, they may not be suitable for immediate investment.

Many Season Mechanics require upfront investment to be effective. If your character doesn't yet have a stable map-clearing ability, investing a lot of resources might not yield the expected returns.

Therefore, in the early stages of TM8, I recommend players use a simpler playstyle. First, stabilize your map clearing efficiency, then accumulate resources through Commodity Farming.

Commodity Farming

From TM7 to TM8, commodity resources are actually a crucial part of Infinite.

Resonance resources are a relatively stable choice. There's always demand for them, and their acquisition methods are relatively natural. Accumulating them while farming and then selling them for currency is perfect for early-game economic accumulation.

Winding Keys are easily underestimated because many players think they have low value. However, they are actually low cost to obtain, and market demand is constant. Individual gains might be average, but over the long term, they accumulate into a decent source of income.

Ember was one of the most valuable resources during the early Afterlight economy. Because many players needed these resources to upgrade their characters, their price was usually quite high. If you weren't in a hurry to use them, selling them for Torchlight Infinite Currency was often more cost-effective than using them yourself.

Random-yielding resources like Elixir of Oblivion can also be kept and sold. For F2P players, these resources don't require additional investment and are essentially extra income.

Don't expect to get rich quickly with a single playstyle in the early stages of TM8. All you need to do is sell various stable resources, and your economy will naturally grow slowly.

Sand Lord

If I were to recommend a playstyle suitable for long-term development for free-to-play Infinite players, Sand Lord would be the top choice. Its growth rhythm is relatively independent and doesn't completely depend on the current strength of your characters.

In SS13, many Season Mechanics require sufficiently powerful characters to improve efficiency. But Sand Lord is a playstyle that you can gradually develop even if you've just entered TM8.

Of course, it won't give you huge immediate returns. You need to familiarize yourself with town building, resource recycling, and various functional arrangements. If you only look at the initial gains, the progress might seem slow. However, as the treasure level increases, the gains will accumulate.

For players with more online time, the advantages of Sand Lord are even more pronounced. You accumulate resources while exploring the map and then slowly develop the system, resulting in relatively stable long-term gains.

More importantly, it has lower investment requirements. The biggest problem for F2P players is limited resources, so often, low-barrier, sustainable gameplay is more suitable than high-investment gameplay.

Common Misconceptions

During TM7 to TM8 phase of Infinite Afterlight, two problems are most likely to occur.

The first is investing in Season Mechanics too early.

Seeing others making money with a certain gameplay style, you immediately invest a lot of resources to copy it. However, often, others' success is predicated on already having a mature character and a complete setup. If you directly copy, you may only copy the cost, not the returns.

It's important to note that the free Legendary Pets are identical in attributes to those obtained through the in-game store; there's no nerf to the free version.

The actual difference affecting the player experience comes primarily from the timing of acquisition. New pets introduced in each new season in Torchlight Infinite typically don't immediately become available through free acquisition channels. Therefore, paying players can gain the advantages of these pets earlier and achieve higher farming efficiency in the early season.

Why Pets Are the Biggest Controversy?

The controversy surrounding paid content in TLI mainly centers on pets. Currently, pets are primarily divided into Battle Pets and Drop Pets. Battle Pets mainly provide character attribute and combat ability enhancements, with high-level Legendary Combat Pets offering a significant damage boost.

However, what truly affects the gameplay experience in Torchlight Infinite isn't Battle Pets, but Drop Pets. Drop Pets affect your resource gains during map clearing, including drop rates in different seasons, material acquisition efficiency, and farming route rewards. While you can still participate in these activities without the appropriate pets, efficiency will be significantly reduced.

This is why some players believe that without pets, the late game in Torchlight Infinite feels more like a constant boss rush, while having suitable drop pets allows you to truly realize the value of various endgame farming mechanics.

6. Necklace

In Torchlight Infinite SS13 Gemma 2, Gale Necklace is increasingly important compared to previous versions.

Because Ice Lances heavily relies on projectile speed, increasing Projectile Speed with Gale Necklace significantly improves skill accuracy and overall mob clearing efficiency, resulting in more consistent damage output when defeating bosses.

Growth Path

Mid-Game Stage

Therefore, it's clear that Gemma 2 Frostbitten Heart's popularity in Torchlight Infinite Afterlight isn't due to its absolute highest single-hit burst damage, but rather its excellent overall capabilities in the current season: easy to level up, fast map clearing, high growth potential, and low operational pressure.

For players who will be playing SS13 long-term, Gemma 2 Frostbitten Heart is definitely a worthwhile Tier 0 spell build.

Many Torchlight Infinite players hope to obtain perfect affixes in one go when crafting a Vorax, instantly creating their endgame gear.

However, the correct decision of whether to continue investing in a Vorax isn't solely based on luck, but on the ability to judge when to continue crafting and when to cut losses.

Choosing a Suitable Base

Before starting Vorax crafting, you first need to prepare a suitable base. Consider whether it's available for your playstyle and whether the market price is stable. For example, a fire damage build might prioritize a base with fire-related basic effects, while a summoner build might choose a base that enhances minions.

An excellent base can reduce the cost of rework later. There's absolutely no need to choose a lower-quality base to save a few dozen Torchlight Infinite Flame Elementium. Some high-quality bases in Afterlight are often out of stock because of limited market supply, so when you find a reasonably priced base, you should grab it decisively; it's often more cost-effective than searching for one later.

Filling Basic Affixes

Before creating a Legendary Slam, you need to fill in the gear's regular affix slots. First, add Basic, Advanced, and Ultimate affixes to Prefix and Suffix, respectively. Then, use Legendary gear to transfer the required Legendary Mod to the target gear.

Additionally, when exchanging crafting materials on Torchlight Infinite marketplace, it's best to enable Filter function to avoid spending a lot of Flame Elementium on inferior materials due to abnormally high prices.

Many players prepare the best Ultimate Mod from the beginning of the crafting process, but this is actually not cost-effective. Since Vorax often requires constant affix adjustments during subsequent crafting, the initial Ultimate mod is primarily used as a placeholder. Legendary Slam

The truly expensive part of this step isn't Legendary itself, but Exquisite Sutures required for Slam. Some regular Torchlight Infinite Legendaries can use the cheaper Tenacious Sutures, but high-level Legendaries almost always require Exquisite Sutures.

Currently, the market price for Exquisite Sutures in Afterlight has risen to nearly 400 Flame Elementium each, making two Legendary Slams cost close to 800 FE. Including initial investments, the production cost of a Vorax quickly exceeded 1,000 FE.

Determining Whether to Continue

After completing Legendary Affix Grafting, it's necessary to determine whether the final result justifies further investment of Torchlight Infinite resources into Vorax. It's important to note that successfully obtaining Legendary Mod does not mean the production is complete; the position of the affixes also affects Vorax's future optimization potential.

Ideally, we want Legendary Mod to appear in Basic Mod or Advanced Mod position. This allows for adjustments to Ultimate and Advanced affixes while preserving Legendary Mod's security and continuing to optimize Vorax's attributes.

If Legendary Mod overrides Ultimate Mod, adjusting Vorax becomes significantly more difficult. This is because Torchlight Infinite has fixed affix restrictions for Voraxes; a single Vorax can have a maximum of two Advanced, two Ultimate, and two Legendary Mod affixes.

Once a Legendary Mod occupies Ultimate slot, subsequent rolls of affixes may risk overwriting an existing Legendary Mod. This doesn't necessarily mean Vorax has failed completely; if adjustments successfully cover lower-value affixes, Vorax still has room for further optimization.

However, if the newly acquired Legendary Mod is overwritten, the significant amount of FE invested previously may be wasted. Therefore, in this situation, you need to carefully assess the value of continuing to craft. As affixes on Vorax become more fixed, the controllable space for subsequent optimizations shrinks, and most operations will rely on RNG.

If you decide to continue optimizing, the next step should focus on prefixes and suffixes, but the primary principle is to ensure the safety of legendary mod. For example, when Legendary Mod is in prefix slot, you can try adjusting Ultimate or Advanced affixes; however, before any action, you need to confirm whether the current action carries the risk of overwriting Legendary Mod.

A typical graduation Vorax for Torchlight Infinite has two Advanced, two Ultimate, and two Legendary affixes, with all affixes in their corresponding slots. This setup ensures that subsequent adjustments to Advanced or Ultimate mods won't affect Legendary.

However, the crafting cost of such Voraxes is usually far higher than what the average Torchlight Infinite player can afford. For the average player, if both core Legendary mods are already obtained, it's worth keeping them even if other affixes aren't perfect. After all, Legendary mod is the core value of a Vorax.

Rather than blindly pursuing a fully equipped Torchlight Infinite Vorax, a more realistic approach is to control crafting costs while ensuring the core Legendary mods are available. Stop investing in Voraxes once they meet your character's needs, and save your resources for the next Vorax; this is often the most cost-effective choice.

In Torchlight Infinite SS13 Afterlight, if your goal is to quickly progress through Netherrealm and defeat the boss to unlock higher Timemarks, the core strategy isn't about grinding mobs, but rather choosing maps with short routes, close to the boss entrance, and low movement costs.

Especially compared to SS12 Lunaria, some map mechanics, Netherrealm gameplay, and farming logic have changed significantly, including higher overall drop thresholds, altered Goddess of Hunting mechanics, and adjusted reward logic. This has led to changes in the fastest farming routes for Torchlight Infinite SS13 players.

TM1-TM4

In Torchlight Infinite SS13 Afterlight season, the core objective of TM1-TM4 stages is not to acquire large amounts of Flame Elementium and equipment drops, but rather to progress through Netherrealm as quickly as possible, defeat the boss, and unlock higher Timemark areas.

Therefore, map selection priorities mainly revolve around three factors:

• Route stability

At this stage, players' equipment is usually still developing, and their damage output is insufficient for quickly clearing large areas of the map. Therefore, the optimal strategy is to use a Boss Rush, skipping most regular monsters and only killing essential targets.

Maps like Wall of the Last Breath and Swirling Mines are more geared towards complete exploration or resource farming, suitable for players who want to accumulate resources.

2. Blistering Lava Sea

Maps suitable for Boss Rush in Blistering Lava Sea are mainly concentrated in:

Dragonrest Canyon, Smelting Plant, Twisted Valley, and Confession Chapel are more suitable for general farming or resource gathering.

3. Steel Forge

Compared to the previous two areas, Steel Forge's maps are generally larger in scale, with some maps featuring distinct layered structures, winding routes, and longer movement distances. Therefore, choosing the right map is crucial for quickly unlocking subsequent Timemarks.

Prioritize Beast Plains, followed by Sun Temple, and then Cloud Walls or Windbreath Cliff. Beast Plains offers the most stable Boss Rush option, with a relatively open map structure, clear route directions, and easier positioning in Boss area.

Compared to other maps in Steel Forge, players can maintain stable movement without frequently stopping to determine direction. This stability is crucial in TM1-TM4 stages.

4. Thunder Wastes

To quickly finish T4 and advance to T5, the best progression combination is Defiled Oasis → Rainmist Jungle → Grove of Calamity. Reducing unnecessary map traversal time is more important than maximizing loot drops on individual maps.

TM5+

Upon entering TM5+ stage, players' gameplay goals shift from quickly unlocking Timemarks to efficiently farming maps. At this point, characters typically have a more complete build system, with significant improvements in damage, movement speed, and survivability, thus increasing the importance of map selection.

Weeping Mines, however, is more geared towards efficiency-oriented players. Its biggest advantage is its compact map structure and relatively concentrated routes, allowing for a higher number of maps completed per unit of time.

Especially for players with fully developed builds in the late game of Torchlight Infinite, Weeping Mines allows them to fully utilize high movement speed and quick kill capabilities.

4. Thunder Wastes

If your build is fully optimized and possesses high-speed movement, you can prioritize Hall in the Mirror for extreme boss rushes after entering Thunder Wastes phase.

Of the maps mentioned, Filthy Forest offers the fastest boss rush, Dreamless Thicket provides the most stable long-term farming option, while Grimwind Woods offers high-speed, efficient map clearing.

TM7+

Upon reaching Torchlight Infinite SS13 Afterlight T7+ stage, players have entered the true high-level endgame phase. At this point, characters have largely completed their core gear setups, and map selection shifts from speed runs to:

• Map clearing loops per unit time.
• Boss kill efficiency.
• High-value resource gains.

Compared to TM5+, TM7+ maps offer higher rewards, but map difficulty, monster strength, and boss pressure also increase significantly.

Therefore, it has become one of the maps favored by many high-level players when farming T7+ in a cycle.

Yesterday Chamber's biggest advantage lies in its stable, clear, and low-fluctuation map routes, making it more suitable for consistent performance in typical endgame builds.

In short, for Torchlight Infinite SS13 Afterlight, mastering map routes and choosing the correct farming areas are key factors in increasing FE income, achieving endgame gear, and improving season completion efficiency.

What stage are you at now? Timemark 7 or Timemark 8?

More and more players are finding that the biggest problem with Torchlight Infinite SS13 Afterlight isn't a decline in game content or quality, but rather that the developers may have intentionally slowed down the progression in the mid-game to extend player playtime, resulting in a poor experience at crucial stages like T7 and T8.

Regarding the experience at these two stages, we've summarized the following three main issues and corresponding solutions.

T7

Lack of Effective Gameplay

In Torchlight Infinite SS13, T7, a crucial stage before reaching the endgame content, currently lacks diverse progression paths, forcing players to repeat low-interesting gameplay.

According to player community statistics, the most effective T7 gameplay is currently Boss Rush. For experienced players, T7 can be completed relatively quickly, but for beginners, players with limited time, or those with low farming efficiency, T7 typically takes a very long time.

However, due to the lack of other more effective gameplay, most players are forced to repeatedly farm Boss Rush. Timemark 7 has thus become a prerequisite for reaching T8, rather than a truly engaging gameplay element.

Few Farming Options

In previous seasons of Torchlight Infinite, such as Vorax, even lower-level maps offered valuable rewards, including special materials, equipment, and currency. Back then, T7 was a crucial stage for character progression, not just a tedious transition.

However, in Afterlight Season, lower-level maps offer extremely low drops, let alone materials for leveling up. For players, T7 offers few worthwhile new farming opportunities besides waiting to reach T8.

Resonance Nodes Nerfed

Resonance is a map resource-related mechanism in Torchlight Infinite. In T7, players need to continuously acquire T7 Beacons to farm maps. Resonance nodes increase the drop rate of specific resources, help players maintain map resources, and reduce the cost of continuous farming.

However, in SS13 Afterlight, the role of Resonance nodes was weakened, and the cost of T7 Beacons continued to rise. If you go to Merchant Zack, each T7 Beacon costs 5-15 Torchlight Infinite Flame Elementium; for more valuable, popular maps, the price is even higher.

Furthermore, player rewards in T7 continued to decline, all of which further slowed down the rate at which players progressed to T8.

Players weren't stuck in Timemark 7 because of insufficient map difficulty or challenge, but rather because they were forced to stay due to a lack of necessary resources and more effective gameplay options.

T8

Only after reaching Timemark 8 could players truly freely choose their farming path. However, because of numerous mechanic changes in Torchlight Infinite Afterlight Season, T8 also became a low-reward level.

Gold Compass Changes

Arcana Gold Compass and Cube Gold Compass, two important mechanisms that originally increased market resource circulation and provided players with more farming options, were severely weakened in Torchlight Infinite SS13, affecting both their mechanics and loot distribution. Even T8 players couldn't utilize their full reward system.

This rendered many gameplay elements reliant on Gold Compass ineffective, reducing the rewards of Doro, Alice, and related activities. The hunting experience for players plummeted, ultimately diminishing the value of T8 farming for players.

Higher Stages Offer Significant Rewards

Players who have entered Profound and Deep Space stages may have noticed a significant difference in the reward environment compared to T8.

In Torchlight Infinite SS13 season mechanics, T7 lacked effective farming methods, and T8 rewards were weakened and limited. The true farming mechanism only began to take effect after entering Profound and Deep Space stages.

This can easily discourage ordinary players from enjoying the new season before they even experience it. While the developers intended to encourage players to play to the end, it may backfire. This also raises another issue: a lack of open communication between players and developers.

Insufficient Communication

For example, the rotation of Pactspirits in Torchlight Infinite Afterlight. Last season was supposed to be Kong's season, but Twilight Sparks were added instead. Doro-Doro, who should have appeared this season, was released early in SS12. SS13 even introduced six new Pactspirits.

The original rotation logic was broken, and players were completely unaware. They couldn't know in advance when a Pactspirit would appear, or whether they should save resources to acquire it.

Improvement Suggestions

Regarding the three major issues summarized above, here are some targeted suggestions:

1. Enhance the Value of T7 and T8

Add more effective farming gameplay. Don't let new mechanics only serve higher stages; ensure that every stage has worthwhile targets to farm.

2. Retain the Core Gameplay

This is especially important. Don't forcibly reduce map rewards or delay equipment acquisition and character leveling to extend player online time. Such restrictive approaches to player progression will only demotivate players.

3. Enhance Communication

Besides announcing Pactspirit rotation roster in advance, even if adjustments are made, the reasons must be explained promptly. Establishing stable communication and feedback channels with players and the community is crucial for retaining players and ensuring Torchlight Infinite's continued improvement.

In short, Torchlight Infinite's biggest problem isn't a lack of content, but rather the need to rebalance retention and experience, providing Timemark 7 and Timemark 8 players with clear goals and diverse gameplay.

Only by maintaining rapid progression, free farming, and good communication can the game sustain its long-term vitality.
