WoW TBC Classic Anniversary raid has been live for a while now, with some players even clearing Karazhan within an hour of its release. Many are discussing how the nerfed raid is much easier than Heroic dungeons.
While some players are disappointed by the lack of difficulty, others appreciate the relaxed atmosphere. With Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep on the horizon, collecting Tier 4 gear early isn't a bad thing.
This guide will show you how to quickly clear Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Lair, helping you quickly collect the gear you want and enough gold.
Gruul's Lair
Gruul's Lair consists of two fights, both of which heavily emphasize teamwork rather than pure damage output. Any mishap due to poor coordination can lead to a wipe.
High King Maulgar
In the first fight, you'll face High King Maulgar and four other Ogres: Olm the Summoner, Kiggler the Crazed, Blindeye the Seer, and Krosh Firehand. You'll need to employ different strategies to deal with them simultaneously.
The strategy for this fight is for someone in the raid to be responsible for holding aggro on each of the five bosses. A viable strategy is for the Bear Tank to hold High King Maulgar, isolating him from the other Ogres. The recommended kill order is:
- Blindeye the Seer
- Olm the Summoner
- Krosh Firehand
- Kiggler the Crazed
- High King Maulgar
Blindeye the Seer must be killed as quickly as possible. Bloodlust or Heroism are good kill spells. Warlocks can use Subjugate Demon to deal with Olm the Summoner, and mages can use Fire Ward to block Krosh Firehand's fireballs. The other two bosses can be handled by Shaman.
After the four Ogres are defeated, Maulgar will cast Whirlwind, significantly increasing its damage. Therefore, melee classes should avoid getting too close, and strong healing should be provided to the tank to ensure a successful final phase. Compared to earlier versions, this fight is now easier as long as the team performs its duties diligently.
Gruul the Dragonkiller
The second boss, Gruul the Dragonkiller, casts Hateful Strike, which targets the second-highest threat level within melee range. Therefore, at least one off-tank needs to maintain high threat levels. Cave-In forces you to constantly pay attention to positioning and move quickly. Ground Slam and Shatter punish poorly positioned melee players, instantly increasing damage by 2000 points.
In the current nerfed version, the most common cause of wipes is not insufficient DPS, but poor positioning before the crushing blow. Your team needs to maintain a spread-out formation, with melee teammates maintaining maximum melee distance and ranged teammates positioned safely within the room.
Healers will face continuous raid damage throughout the fight, especially as Gruul's stacking damage increases over time. Mana management is crucial, and most successful raids assign dedicated tanks and healers.
While Gruul is no longer considered a progression bottleneck, he remains a significant challenge. Defeating him yields powerful gear such as Dragonspine Trophy. If you don't want this gear, you can trade it with other players for WoW TBC Classic Anniversary gold.
Magtheridon's Lair
If Gruul tests raid positioning, Magtheridon's Lair tests teamwork even more.
Phase One
Contrary to many expectations, the most difficult part of the fight isn't Magtheridon himself, but Hellfire Channelers in Phase One. While Magtheridon is imprisoned, you and your raid must control and defeat five Hellfire Channelers.
Each Channeler will cast dangerous spells, including Shadow Bolt Volley and the powerful healing spell Dark Mending. Warlocks play a crucial role in this phase, needing to keep Curse of Tongues active at all times to slow down Hellfire Channelers' casting speed.
Phase Two
Once Hellfire Channelers fall, Magtheridon will be immediately released, and the real battle begins. The raid must immediately enter a state of high alert.
Magtheridon will unleash Blast Nova, which, although it has a cooldown, is enough to wipe out your entire raid in one hit. Only if all five Manticron cubes in the room are clicked simultaneously can Magtheridon deal significant damage.
Therefore, precise communication and timing are paramount in this phase. It's best to have ranged DPS clicking the cubes and backups in case of emergencies. You can take advantage of the moment when the cubes are successfully channeled.
Phase Three
Magtheridon enters its final phase when its health drops to 30%. It will shatter the walls of the lair, causing debris to fall from the ceiling, increasing environmental hazards and the damage the raid takes. It must be said that the difficulty of this phase of WoW TBC Classic has been significantly reduced after the nerf.
You only need to pay attention to your surroundings and dodge falling debris. Healers need to focus on AoE damage, while tanks maintain a stable position. Many raids choose to start advancing at this phase and use Bloodlust or Heroism to shorten the fight.
By today's standards, Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Lair may no longer be considered difficult, but they are still an essential part of TBC Classic experience. By defeating these bosses, you can obtain Tier 4 gear and prepare for the more challenging Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep.
That concludes this guide to raids in WoW TBC Classic Anniversary. Have fun!
