In Phase 2 of WoW TBC Classic Anniversary, Kael'thas Sunstrider, the final boss of Tempest Keep, is a long and challenging fight that tests a team's coordination and endurance.
The fight is divided into five distinct phases, each with different mechanics and strategies.
Teams need to strategically allocate roles among tanks, healers, and DPS, and make full use of the legendary weapons available in the area to deal with various threats.
Phase 1
In Phase 1, four Blood Elf advisors will appear one by one in a fixed order. The team must kill them individually, but not too early, as this will increase the difficulty when they respawn in later phases. The location and method of dealing with each advisor are different.
Thaladred
Thaladred appears first and will consistently chase a random player. The team needs to kite him to the rear area near the room entrance and kill him there.
Prior to engaging, the whole group should set up near the entrance. The player targeted should run along the edge of the arena, while the remaining DPS should focus their attacks. Avoid killing the target deep within the room, as this will disrupt the team's positioning upon respawn.
Sanguinar
Sanguinar appears second. Tank should lure it to the left wall for elimination. This advisor will cast Fear, so Tremor Totem should be placed beforehand, or Fear Ward should be applied to Tank.
Melee DPS should maintain distance to avoid running into other dangerous areas after Fear. Eliminate it in the left corner.
Capernian
Capernian appears third. A Warlock is responsible for establishing threat. This Warlock must remove Blessing of Salvation and then continuously cast Searing Pain from maximum range to quickly build threat.
Before attacking, other ranged DPS must allow Warlock to build enough threat. Any player within 30 yards of Capernian will be affected by Conflagration, dealing massive damage and stunning them.
Therefore, all team members except Warlock must maintain a distance of at least 30 yards. Warlock himself will enter this range and requires focused attention from healers who must dispel the stun promptly. Warlock should hold the threat at a distance, while the rest of the ranged DPS should flank.
Telonicus
Telonicus is the last to appear. Protection Paladin can pull him to the left corner of the wall where Sanguinar was previously killed. He will throw bombs, and the team needs to spread out appropriately to reduce AoE.
However, these bombs do low damage, so excessive spreading is unnecessary. This advisor has low health and can be quickly killed by DPS.
Phase 2
After Phase One ends, seven legendary weapons will appear simultaneously at the room entrance. The team needs to gather all weapons together for area-of-effect DPS, but two weapons need to be dealt with separately.
The Devastator is a massive two-handed axe that casts Whirlwind Axe. A Tank needs to pull it out of the weapon pile, away from the raid, and then kill it solo.
The Bow requires a Hunter to acquire Threat and then pull it slightly out of the way, facing away from the raid to avoid arrow attacks. Melee and caster DPS should group together and attack all other weapons simultaneously. After clearing the regular weapons, kill the bow and the Devastator in sequence.
Phase 3
After the weapons are cleared, the four advisors killed in Phase One will respawn simultaneously. The raid needs to quickly run to legendary weapons pile in the center of the arena, and each player should pick up the weapon corresponding to their class.
Daggers are crucial and should be given to a Rogue, Fury Warrior, Arms Warrior, or Hunter, as it is a key item for breaking Mind Control in later phases. Tanks should pick up Shield, and casters should pick up Staff.
Following the first phase's strategy, kill the four advisors. However, with all advisors present, the situation is chaotic.
Stay calm and prioritize dealing with the more threatening Capernian and Sanguinar. Continue kiting Thaladred, and quickly eliminate Telonicus.
Phase 4
After all four advisors are down, Kael'thas Sunstrider will appear from the front of the stage and charge towards the raid. The main tank should immediately establish a threat, while the second tank should maintain a second threat in case the main tank dies.
A dedicated Interrupt class should be assigned to interrupt Kael'thas Sunstrider's Fireball, intercepting every cast as much as possible, otherwise Fireball could kill the tank in one hit.
The entire raid should activate Bloodlust or Heroism and unleash their full DPS. If the raid is well-equipped and has sufficient WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Gold, prepare burst potions in advance.
Mind Control
Kael'thas Sunstrider periodically casts Mind Control, affecting any raid member, including Tanks. A melee class wielding a dagger or a Hunter must immediately dispel controlled players.
If a controlled player appears within melee range, a Warrior or Rogue wielding a dagger can dispel the control with a successful auto-attack. Warriors can also use Whirlwind Axe. If a controlled player appears in the ranged group, a Hunter can immediately dispel the control by attacking with Wing Clip ability.
Shield and Pyroblast
Kael'thas Sunstrider applies a shield to himself and begins casting Pyroblast. If the raid's DPS is sufficient, the shield can be broken while it is active, then Pyroblast can be interrupted.
If the shield cannot be destroyed, Tank who previously picked up the legendary shield needs to activate its effect to absorb Pyroblast damage and prevent casualties.
Phoenix Egg
Phoenixes will continuously spawn throughout the fight. Phoenix kites need to be killed near the raid's perimeter to avoid their AoE damage affecting the raid. Upon death, a Phoenix will become a Phoenix Egg, which must be destroyed immediately, otherwise Phoenix will respawn.
Phase 5
When Kael'thas Sunstrider's health drops to approximately 50%, the fight enters its final phase. He will cast Gravity Lapse, causing the entire raid to float in the air. All players must avoid touching the ground, or they will take damage and be launched high into the air.
He will also cast Nether Beam, a skill that bounces between players; therefore, the raid needs to spread out appropriately to minimize bounces.
After Gravity Lapse ends, the entire raid falls back to the ground. Tanks re-establish threat, and all DPS unleash their full abilities to deplete Kael'thas Sunstrider's remaining health, ending the fight.
The core of Kael'thas Sunstrider fight lies in the smooth transitions between phases and the handling of key mechanics. The team needs to practice extensively to familiarize themselves with each advisor's positioning, the allocation and use of Legendary weapons, and the rapid dispelling of Mind Control.
Mastering the three key points - shielding against Pyroblast, using daggers to break control effects, and maintaining levitation during Gravity Lapse - makes this long but clearly structured fight much easier to conquer.
