Recently, a topic has sparked considerable discussion on WoW TBC Classic Anniversary forums: What changes will the developers make to dungeons in upcoming Phase 3?
With each new Phase release, the game undergoes a wave of optimizations and adjustments. Phase 2 has been out for almost a month, and players have offered various feedback on the dungeons. It's highly likely that Phase 3 will address these feedbacks.
So, the question arises: what's wrong with the current game environment? And how will they fix it? Today, we'll analyze this in depth.

Current Situation Analysis
Before discussing the direction of changes, we need to understand the current predicament of BCC Anniversary. In the words of players, the game has entered a "Raid Logging" phase.
Heroic Dungeons' Inadequate Value
In the mid-to-late game of Phase 2, the role of Heroic Dungeons became very awkward.
For newly leveled alts, Heroic dungeons still have value, providing Badges of Justice and basic Epic Items. However, for players already involved in Serpentshrine Cavern and The Eye: Tempest Keep, the benefits of Heroic Dungeons are negligible.
At this point, aside from completing daily quests to meet quotas, Heroic Dungeons are useless to these players.
Low Player Activity
The problem with Heroic Dungeons is widespread. In fact, most five-man dungeons in WoW TBC Classic Anniversary face the same situation: many players only log in to raid - so-called Raid Logging.
When the majority of a game's core players only log in for raids and are unwilling to even touch five-man dungeons at other times, the game's server environment becomes stagnant.
The direct consequence of this phenomenon is that players who haven't reached endgame gear will find themselves in a predicament: they can't find anyone to run basic dungeons with, because fully geared players don't need to; and they themselves, due to their poor gear, struggle to enter Tier 5 raids.
Suggested Changes
Based on the above difficulties, WOW TBC players have proposed three possible changes from the developers.
Change 1: Increase Rewards
The most direct and likely solution is to increase the rewards from Heroic Dungeons.
For example, increasing the number of Badges of Justice dropped by each boss, or adding extra Badges of Justice rewards to the new bosses in Phase 3;
Alternatively, adding gear from older raids - this is one of the most requested changes. Specifically, giving the final boss of Heroic Dungeons a chance to drop gear from Phase 1 and Phase 2 raids, such as gear from Karrazhan, Gruul's Lair, or Magtheridon's Lair.
This suggestion stems from Blizzard's introduction of a similar mechanism in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.
Specifically, the game's dungeons are divided into different difficulties, and in some difficulties, the bosses drop a special token. Players collect these tokens and can exchange them for raid gear at an NPC.
In Heroic++ difficulty, bosses in five-player dungeons will drop a special token. Players can collect these tokens and exchange them for raid gear at an NPC.
This mechanism maintains the challenge of five-player dungeons while providing rewards comparable to raids. BCC could adopt a similar approach.
Change 2: Reduce Consumable Prices
In TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 2, many players complained about the excessive gold consumption of consumables.
Generally, it takes a player about three hours to accumulate 200 gold in Phase 2, but a single high-difficulty dungeon might require 300 gold for various Flasks and food.
Due to the ban on GDKP, many players simply cannot obtain enough WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Gold to participate in dungeons, which is highly unreasonable.
Change 3: Adjust Difficulty
There is debate among players regarding whether dungeon difficulty should be increased or decreased in Phase 3. This is because World of Warcraft series employs Pre-Nerf and Post-Nerf mechanics.
Pre-Nerf refers to the initial difficulty of a boss upon its release, typically characterized by high stats and complex mechanics. Post-Nerf, on the other hand, refers to a boss's difficulty being reduced after a period of time, generally resulting in a more reasonable and easier-to-strategy content.
Considering that Phase 2 Raids were Post-Nerf versions, some players believe that Phase 3 is unlikely to further reduce dungeon difficulty; however, others believe that Post-Nerf difficulty is too low and the game should increase dungeon difficulty.
Change 4: Introducing a "Catch-Up Mechanism"
Catch-up mechanisms are present in most MMORPGs and are crucial. Imagine a returning player who has just reached the level cap in Phase 3 and wants to farm T5 dungeons to improve their gear for the new dungeons, only to find that everyone else is farming the new dungeons, leaving T5 dungeons deserted.
Without a catch-up mechanism, a new player might have to spend one or two months grinding older, unused dungeons, which is clearly unreasonable.
So, how would a catch-up mechanism be implemented? For example, BCC Anniversary could add Phase 1 and Phase 2 sets for players to exchange at Badge of Justice exchange vendor in Shattrath City;
It could also allow Badges of Justice to be exchanged for higher item level gear - high enough to give players the ability to challenge new dungeons.
This concludes the analysis of the current state of WoW TBC Classic Anniversary dungeons and predictions and expectations for the changes in Phase 3. As for what Phase 3 will actually be like, we believe we will find out soon.
