Secret Ways to Farm Items and Get Rich in WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Pre-Patch

Although the WoW TBC Classic Anniversary hasn't officially launched yet, players can already farm items in the pre-patch by using the Rogue class to steal from Strong Junkboxes and fish for Ornns, accumulating valuable items in advance.

Jan 29, 2026 Author: EZG

WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Pre-Patch created a unique situation in WoW: TBC items already existed in the game world, but most players' level cap was still 60.

This resulted in a short but highly rewarding phase where players could obtain certain TBC materials, consumables, and even epic weapons earlier than originally planned.

Secret Ways to Farm Items and Get Rich in WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Pre-Patch

If you understand the mechanics, you can farm these items to gain a significant advantage or earn a large amount of gold after the official release.

So let's take a look at the specific methods for farming items in the pre-patch!

1. Farming Strong Junkboxes

What is it?

A Strong Junkbox is a special container that can be obtained by looting high-level monsters. Unlike regular junk boxes from Classic WoW, Strong Junkboxes use TBC loot list, meaning they may contain:

  • Rare Gems
  • Super Healing Potion
  • Netherweave Cloth
  • Level 70 Epic weapons, etc.

These rare items make Strong Junkboxes extremely valuable in the pre-patch, as most players cannot yet obtain TBC materials.

Core requirements

The core requirement for obtaining Strong Junkboxes is simply having a Rogue with 300 points in Pickpocketing skill.

That's right, only that one requirement. No profession skills, raid gear, or complex gear setups are needed. Even a newly leveled Rogue can easily do it; you only need to slightly increase your Lockpicking skill to open the chest (or use a key from another Rogue/Blacksmith).

This is why Rogues are one of the strongest gold-farming classes in TBC Classic Anniversary Pre-Patch. Stealth + Pickpocket skill combination is virtually unmatched in its effectiveness at this stage.

Most importantly, the player's investment is not high. You only need to level a Rogue character to level 60 and then raise Pickpocketing skill from 290 to 300 in less than an hour - a low-investment, high-return strategy.

How to obtain a Strong Junkbox?

Tainted Scar (Blasted Lands)

This is currently one of the best and most stable farming locations. You can find:

  • Doomguard Commanders (61 Elite)
  • Felguard Elites

These monsters are densely packed and respawn quickly, making them easy to pickpocket. There's no PvP pressure here; Rogue can rotate dozens of monsters every few minutes to steal Strong Junkbox.

Alterac Valley (PvP Zone)

Several NPC commanders and lieutenants in Alterac Valley can also be pickpocketed:

  • Galvangar
  • Belinda
  • Vanndar
  • Drek’Thar

These NPCs are level 63 and above. We can sneak into their rooms during combat and repeatedly pickpocket them. This method is very effective, but it has some drawbacks. You need to participate in PvP combat, and there's a certain risk of being killed.

Nevertheless, it remains one of the few ways to farm Strong Junkboxes.

Karazhan Area (Unliving Residents)

In Karazhan Area, there are level 68 monsters called Unliving Residents. These monsters can be killed and looted.

Not only is there a chance to obtain Strong Junkboxes, but you can also reliably obtain Netherweave Cloth and some rare equipment.

The Burning Crusade Demon Invasion Events

During the pre-patch world events, roaming demons will spawn throughout Azeroth.

These monsters are level 63 and above, are elite monsters, and can be looted. Many players overlook this, but it's also a good way to farm Strong Junkboxes.

2. Fishing and Cooking

Another very useful and completely legal way to obtain items is fishing. All waterways in Karazhan utilize TBC fishing platforms.

You can fish for the following in these waters:

  • Barbed Gill Trout
  • Crescent-Tail Skullfish
  • Bloodfin Catfish

These fish allow you to pre-cook some TBC food, such as:

  • Skullfish Soup (spell crit + spirit)
  • Blackened Trout
  • Bloodfin Catfish (magic resistance food)

Even with the current profession skill level cap of 300, you can stockpile hundreds of fish to immediately boost your profession skill upon the release of TBC Classic Anniversary. Skullfish Soup is particularly useful for spellcasters during the early leveling and dungeon grinding phase.

Which items are best to stockpile?

While we've mastered how to acquire items in The Burning Crusade Anniversary Pre-Patch, not all items are worth keeping; you need to have an investment mindset.

Learn to keep those valuable and rare items to maximize your advantage when the full version launches.

These items will be your primary targets:

  • Netherweave Cloth – great for Tailoring and First Aid
  • TBC fish – future cooking profit
  • Super Healing Potions – strong for PvP leveling
  • Rare gems – massive gold potential

In the pre-patch, you should generally avoid auctioning these items from the auction house, as their prices are often artificially inflated due to extremely limited supply.

If you can farm these items yourself, you can avoid risk, control your inventory, and have a backup plan for acquiring substantial WoW TBC Classic Anniversary gold when you're short on gold.

Farming items before WoW TBC Anniversary release is one of the most "unofficial but permissive" mechanics in the series' history. It rewards players who understand the hidden drop tables, NPC levels, and profession mechanics.

This way, while most players are still struggling to compete for resources later in the game, you'll already have abundant item resources and maxed-out professions. So what are you waiting for? Get started in the pre-patch!
