Many players are excited about WoW Forever, but this is a blow to the classic World of Warcraft servers, as it means a large number of players will leave. WoW MoP Classic has already reached Phase 5 and is essentially nearing its end, while WoW TBC Anniversary is undoubtedly the version that will be affected the most.

WoW TBC Anniversary is currently in its strongest phase, but following the announcement of WoW Forever, players are leaving in large numbers. Those who remain in TBC are also facing a question: should they continue playing TBC? It depends on the current state of your character, your guild environment, and the content you want to play.

Player Population Decline

Before BlizzCon, WoW BCC Anniversary player population had already seen a slight decline, dropping from around 260,000 players to 220,000. However, this was relatively normal, as the combined player population across the US and European realms remained around 240,000 throughout August.

From the period after BlizzCon through September 22, however, WoW TBC Anniversary player population dropped significantly, falling from around 220,000 to roughly 130,000. If this trend continues, the player population could soon fall below 100,000.

Is It Suitable for Starting From Scratch?

If you plan to level from 1 to 70, it is probably better not to waste your time. If you genuinely enjoy the leveling journey, have very little time for raiding, and do not plan to raid at all, then it may still be worth considering. However, if you want to raid in TBC Anniversary and have not started yet, it is probably better not to invest the time.

Forming raid groups is already becoming difficult, and many groups are missing Shamans and Holy Paladins. It is also Phase 3 now, and most players have already reduced Black Temple to raid logging content, clearing it before logging off.

If you start gearing a character from scratch, you will need to progress from Karazhan to SSC and the later content, which requires a considerable amount of time.

Even if you manage to gear your character properly, you may still struggle to get into raids. Many players are focused on extreme optimization, so they will check your gear score and combat logs. As a new character with average gear, you are unlikely to receive many raid invitations.

Players With Existing Characters

If you already have a well-geared character and your guild has not become a ghost guild because of WoW Forever, you can continue playing. However, as more players and guilds leave, your guild could also be affected.

If you only want to play PvP, that is still an option. Battlegrounds usually have relatively short queues, and Arenas are still playable. The problem is that these activities are now largely dominated by players with extremely powerful gear.

If you only play PvE, things become even more difficult. You will need a considerable amount of time to gear your character, and you may still struggle to find a suitable raid spot unless you have a stable guild.

TBC after November 4

Although not every player will leave TBC Anniversary immediately, that is partly because World of Warcraft: Forever is still one month away from launch. Once WoW Forever goes live, the initial weeks are expected to bring a major wave of player departures.

Players will want to experience the new game while it is still fresh. This means many Burning Crusade players will temporarily shift their time toward WoW Forever. Some guilds may move over as entire groups, while some players may leave TBC permanently.

After WoW Forever has been running for some time, TBC Anniversary may stabilize at a much smaller population. Some players may gradually return to TBC, especially when Sunwell phase gives them a strong reason to come back.

Players who have spent several months gearing their characters may not simply abandon all of that progress, especially with the expansion's final raid already on the horizon.

The official team has not announced a complete long-term plan for TBC Anniversary, so it remains unclear whether it will eventually enter a permanent-server model, continue into Wrath Classic, or take an entirely different path.

This may be the biggest issue facing TBC players right now. World of Warcraft: Forever is designed to be permanent, while TBC still has an endpoint. Once Sunwell Plateau is completed and players clear the final content, there will be fewer reasons to remain in Outland.

That does not mean TBC will disappear overnight. Classic Era has already shown that an older version can continue to exist with a smaller but dedicated population, and TBC Anniversary could follow a similar path. However, how the official team handles the period after Sunwell will be extremely important, especially now that Forever gives players a permanent alternative.

If you are completely new or want to level another character from scratch, it may be better to abandon that plan and wait for World of Warcraft: Forever. If you already have a developed character and a reasonably active guild, you can continue playing TBC Anniversary and wait for the release of Sunwell.

TBC Anniversary event has entered Phase 3.

Black Temple and Mount Hyjal have opened, attunement requirements for SSC and Tempest Keep have been removed, and Zul'Aman will also provide new catch-up opportunities in the near future.

Meanwhile, an unverified TBC Classic Plus leak has surfaced ahead of BlizzCon. It proposes retaining the Level 70 class and progression systems from TBC while bringing subsequent progression back to Azeroth.

Level 70 Back in Azeroth

The key feature of this leak is maintaining the level cap at 70 while building upon the class progression foundations established during TBC era.

The nine classic classes would continue to receive talent and skill adjustments, but the overall content direction would no longer focus on expanding Outland.

The proposal suggests removing flying mounts and new races - as well as abandoning further Outland-centric expansion paths - to refocus exploration on Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

This gives TBC Classic Plus a distinct identity: preserving TBC character system while allowing the classic Azeroth world to continue evolving.

This approach is particularly well-suited to the current Anniversary environment. Players have already completed the journey from level 60 to 70 and have adapted to TBC's talent trees, stats, and class roles.

If future Plus content builds upon Level 70 foundation, it avoids disrupting existing character progression, allowing for a more natural continuation of gear, class gameplay, and long-term character development.

A Bigger Azeroth

Standard TBC progression follows a clear path: players cross Dark Portal, and Outland subsequently hosts the vast majority of content - including leveling from 60 to 70, reputation grinds, dungeons, and max-level raids.

While Azeroth remains, its importance in the endgame diminishes significantly for most Level 70 characters.

This concept, however, seeks to expand Old World instead. These include Hidden Coast near Tirisfal and Lordaeron, new subterranean zones within Burning Steppes and Blackrock Mountain, Wildhammer highlands, and previously underutilized map areas near the southern coasts of Feralas, Un'Goro, and Tanaris.

Some of these areas would also directly connect to existing maps via new mountain passes, coastal routes, and cave systems.

This approach actually echoes Netherwing daily quests introduced in Phase 3. Following the opening of Black Temple, Netherwing provided Shadowmoon Valley with a steady stream of max-level daily activities. This shifted the focus of material gathering, daily quests, and TBC Anniversary gold farming back toward the open world.

If similar world objectives were implemented across Azeroth, older zones - previously serving mainly as leveling grounds - could once again become hubs for long-term activities for level 70 characters.

New Dungeons and Raids

Ultimately, map expansion must be backed by endgame content.

Under this concept, new zones would introduce several 5-player dungeons for levels 60 - 70, while also expanding existing Classic dungeons or offering high-level variants similar to Heroic modes. Keeping this legacy content relevant allows players to accumulate TBC gold while catching up on gear.

Raid content would include two new 10 - 25 player raids and a medium-scale open-world raid event.

Even more noteworthy is the proposed approach to attunement: retaining quest chains that offer narrative, exploration, and collection value, while eliminating time-gating mechanics designed solely to artificially prolong progression.

This aligns with the direction recently seen in Anniversary Phase 3 update.

Attunement requirements for SSC and Tempest Keep have been removed, lowering the barrier to entry for these legacy raids; Phase 3 also improved the acquisition rate for certain Tier tokens while maintaining the value of Heroic dungeons through bonus rewards.

Therefore, if a TBC Classic Plus were to materialize, it could preserve the classic spirit of completing an adventure to access a key location while stripping away the repetitive processes that hinder alts, returning players, and new members from catching up.

Class Changes

Class design is arguably the aspect of this proposal most prone to spiraling out of control.

TBC itself already gave a more solid identity to many specializations that were weak or ill-defined during Vanilla era; therefore, there is little need for Plus to undergo another round of wholesale modernization.

The direction taken with Retribution Paladins serves as an example: retaining seal twisting while improving gameplay fluidity and actual output, rather than completely replacing the class's original combat mechanics.

Survival Hunters could see their melee hybrid identity further reinforced, while Enhancement Shaman archetype offers even more room for expansion.

Dual-wielding can remain a reliable path for consistent damage output, but a viable two-handed Windfury build could also be enabled through talents, allowing players to choose between rapid, successive strikes and slower, heavier burst damage.

Balance Druids illustrate this boundary as well. Rumors have mentioned an Eclipse-style rotation mechanic, but such a design risks pushing the class too far toward the style of later expansions - or even Retail WoW.

Instead, TBC Classic Plus is better suited to fleshing out underperforming playstyles, expanding build options and class utility, and building upon TBC's established combat pacing and class identities, rather than redesigning the entire class system from scratch.

If new zones and builds drive increased demand for consumables, enchantments, and gear, the importance of gold in TBC Classic will continue to rise.

Why Phase 3 Matters?

Now is actually an ideal time to discuss TBC Classic Plus. The challenges facing the game are evolving.

With Phase 3 now live, the barrier to entry for early raids has lowered, and the acquisition rate for Tier gear has accelerated. Netherwing has introduced new max-level goals for the open world, and Zul'Aman is set to arrive in a later phase, offering a 10-player catch-up raid that is easier to organize.

For an increasing number of players, the primary question will shift from "Can I still catch up in TBC?" to "What is there to do once I've caught up?"

It allows for the continued use of Level 70 characters - into which players have already poured significant time - while introducing new zones, dungeons, raids, class builds, and server-wide world events to this mature system, all without immediately ushering the entire player base into a new expansion.

Currently, there are no official sources confirming that the new zones, raids, or class changes mentioned will actually materialize; therefore, none of this content should be regarded as a confirmed update.

Nevertheless, it offers a fairly comprehensive concept for TBC Classic Plus: maintaining the level 70 cap and the established class foundations of TBC, reducing unnecessary progression friction, and - at the same time - bringing the long-term endgame back to an ever-expanding Azeroth.

With the launch of Phase 3, the profession landscape in TBC Anniversary is shifting. The introduction of new Epic Gems and Jewelcrafting recipes has made Jewelcrafting a profession many players are considering switching to.

However, the server economy in TBC Classic Anniversary differs significantly from the original Classic era. Supplies of low-level materials from Old World have dwindled, causing the prices of certain common ores, bars, and basic materials to rise.

Consequently, leveling Jewelcrafting from 1 to 375 requires more than just speed; you must also consider material prices, crafted-item returns, and whether the final few skill points are worth the cost.

Why Level Jewelcrafting Now?

The biggest impact of Phase 3 on Jewelcrafting comes from the new batch of Purple Gems and their associated recipes.

With these high-level gems, BCC Anniversary players have more options to optimize their current gear. New Jewelcrafting recipes are also available through Hyjal, Black Temple, and reputation vendors.

Since high-level Jewelcrafting content will arrive later with Sunwell Plateau, reaching 375 now can reduce the pressure of catching up later.

Of course, whether it is worth switching professions still depends on your class build, server prices, and the value of your current profession.

Jewelcrafting 1-300

Many players are surprised by the cost of the 1-300 range.

Shopping lists from traditional guides might cost 800 - 1,200 TBC Anniversary gold on some servers, while a route adjusted for current material availability can theoretically reduce the cost to below 700 gold.

The main reason is the scarcity of low-level materials. As most players have reached the endgame, fewer people are mining Copper, Silver, and other Old World ores, driving up prices.

Therefore, check Auction House on your TBC Anniversary server and adjust your route based on real-time prices instead of blindly following older guides.

How to Save Gold from 1-300?

The rings, necklaces, and green-quality items crafted while leveling often retain resale value.

Some can be listed directly on Auction House, but listing too many identical items at once can slow sales and lower prices.

If you have an Enchanting alt or a friend who can disenchant items, compare the prices of Dust and Essence. In many cases, disenchanting green-quality jewelry is easier than selling every finished item individually.

Handled properly, crafts from 1-300 can recoup around 200 gold, meaning a nominal 700 gold material cost does not equal the final net expense.

Some stages also rely on Yellow recipes, which do not guarantee a skill point with every craft. Treat shopping-list quantities as minimum requirements and prepare a small surplus of materials to account for unlucky skill-ups.

Jewelcrafting 300-375

Upon entering Outland, the cost rises significantly. On some servers, leveling from 300 to 375 can cost over 1,000 gold.

However, high-level gems, jewelry, and transitional gear crafted during this stage are easier to sell, so their resale value should be included when calculating the real cost.

Most basic Jewelcrafting recipes required for 300-375 can be obtained from trainers or vendors in Hellfire Peninsula.

Alliance players can visit Tatiana in Honor Hold, while Horde players can visit Kalaen in Thrallmar.

Before getting materials in bulk, make sure you already have the required vendor recipes.

365-375: Speed or Savings?

The final 10 skill points are the most expensive part of the entire 1-375 route.

Using Meta Gem recipes such as Earthstorm Diamond can make 365-375 alone cost over 600 gold. For players who want to reach 375 quickly, this is essentially trading gold for time.

If you are not in a rush, Brilliant Glass offers a more cost-effective alternative. Its material cost is much lower than repeatedly crafting Meta Gems, but it has a 24-hour cooldown.

That gives you two options: use expensive Meta Gem crafts for speed, or make Brilliant Glass daily and finish 365-375 gradually.

With Purple Gems entering Phase 3, demand for Blue Gems may also decline. If prices remain high on your server, consider monitoring Auction House before acquiring them in bulk.

Server economies vary, so always base acquires on your own market conditions.

Recipes After 375

Reaching 375 is only the foundation of TBC Phase 3 Jewelcrafting. Its long-term value depends heavily on the recipes you collect afterward.

Many recipes are gated behind faction reputation, dungeon drops, and raid progression. The Consortium is one faction Jewelcrafters should prioritize.

Epic Jewelcrafting recipes in Phase 3 mainly come from Battle for Mount Hyjal, Black Temple, and The Scale of the Sands Quartermaster.

Purple Gem recipes have different sources: some drop in raids, while others require reputation with The Scale of the Sands.

If you plan to keep Jewelcrafting long-term, building reputation and collecting raid recipes is more important than simply reaching 375.

Jewelcrafting and Mining

Mining remains the most natural companion profession for Jewelcrafting. Ore can be converted into gems through Prospecting, while bars obtained through Smelting can be used for many 1 - 300 recipes.

If you do not want to spend hours mining, you can get ore from Auction House and level Mining through Smelting. The full route costs around 650 TBC Phase 3 gold, depending on your server economy.

The resulting bars can be used for Jewelcrafting or resold, so the full amount is not necessarily a sunk cost.

Optimal 1 - 375 Leveling Route

If your goal is to reach 375 quickly, gather the required materials upfront and use Meta Gem route for the final skill points.

If cost-efficiency matters more, sell or disenchant crafted gear, use Brilliant Glass to progress through 365 - 375, and wait for better Blue Gem prices before getting in bulk.

For long-term Jewelcrafting players, Phase 3 is also about building reputation with The Consortium and The Scale of the Sands while collecting recipes from dungeons, Hyjal, and Black Temple.

Jewelcrafting is expensive in TBC Anniversary Phase 3, but once material costs, crafted-item returns, and endgame recipe value are considered together, it remains a worthwhile profession in Phase 3.

WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Arena Season 3 launched on September 1st, giving Rogues more room to adjust their PvP gear.

Rather than sticking to one set of gear, Season 3 is more about gear switching for different matchups, including weapon, survival stats, and gem choices.

Weapons

Dual Warglaives of Azzinoth are a very strong choice in BCC Anniversary, and both Warglaives can be enchanted with Mongoose. However, at the start of Season 3, most Rogues are unlikely to have dual swords immediately, so it's best to prepare an alternative weapon set in advance.

Rod of the Sun King is an excellent choice. Its top-end damage and attack power are excellent, and its proc effect still performs well in TBC PvP. It's important to note that Arena Season 3 allows you to change gear before each match, so it's best not to prepare only one main-hand weapon.

Head

You can use Cursed Vision of Sargeras for your head, or switch to Hyper-Vision Goggles depending on the matchup. The latter provides 34 Attack Power and 16 Hit Rating, offering some damage and hit chance benefits in PvP.

Especially against Alliance rogues, Perception still affects stealth initiative. While Hyper-Vision Goggles provide stealth detection, they shouldn't be considered a guaranteed opener. If both sides have stacked stealth-related gear, who spots whom first and who gains the first control still depends on their TBC gear combinations and actual distance.

Legs

In TBC Classic Anniversary Arena Season 3, it's best to prepare two sets of leg gear. The first set should use Vengeful Gladiator's Leather Legguards, with +40 Stamina and +12 Agility enhancements, primarily for increased survivability; the second set should have +50 Attack Power and +12 Crit Rating, specifically for boosting DPS.

The two gear sets have clear purposes: switch to Attack Power and Crit when damage is needed, and switch to Stamina and Agility when survivability is required. Rogues aren't solely responsible for control in every arena match; while they often need to create opportunities to deal damage through Stun and Expose Armo, burst damage is equally important.

Gems

Gems can be adjusted based on TBC Classic team type. If primarily playing Double DPS, use more Attack Power gems. For example, with a Rogue and Mage combination, this type of team usually relies more on early burst damage and has a relatively short fight time, so sacrificing some Agility for higher Attack Power is a reasonable choice.

If also playing a healer with DPS, regular Agility Gems are recommended. Yellow gems can also be changed from pure 10 Resilience to 5 Resilience + 7 Stamina. This configuration provides an extra 21 Stamina, equivalent to approximately 210 health, requiring only a small sacrifice of Resilience.

WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 3 has just opened, but you can start saving Badges of Justice for Phase 4 now. After Zul'Aman opens, some classes will have several powerful pieces of gear that can be directly redeemed with Badges. Saving up enough in advance will avoid the hassle of farming them later.

This time, the focus isn't on all Badge gear, but on those items that can be immediately integrated into your main gear setup, or even approach BiS.

Warrior

Warriors are one of the classes worth saving Badges for in advance during TBC Anniversary Phase 3. To prepare several key pieces of gear, you'll need approximately 165 Badges of Justice. 

Dory's Embrace requires 60 Badges, its core value being Armor Penetration. This cloak is very useful if your current gear doesn't lack Hit Rating. Its benefits are even more pronounced against bosses with 6,200 armor or lower, such as Hex Lord Malacrass in Zul'Aman.

Bracers of the Ancient Phalanx require 35 Badges. If you need Hit Rating, you can continue using Bracers of Eradication from SSC; if you prioritize Defense Rating and Stamina, you can exchange BCC Anniversary Gold for Ancient Phalanx.

Chain of Unleashed Rage and Brooch of Deftness each require 35 Badges; the former primarily replenishes Hit Rating, while the latter replenishes Stamina.

The pressure on Fury Warrior and Arms Warrior isn't as high; prioritizing Dory's Embrace is sufficient. Alternatively, Shadowmoon Destroyer's Drape, dropped by BCC Anniversary Teron Gorefiend, can be used.

Shaman

Resto Shaman requires 60 Badges of Justice to exchange for Treads of the Life Path. Zul'Aman's Zul'jin also drops Two-Toed Sandals, which perform well, but Badge exchange is more reliable and doesn't require waiting for drops.

Enhance Shaman requires approximately 80 Badges of Justice. The core objective is Nyn'jah's Tabi Boots, which require 60 Badges. Hit Rating is very useful, and overall performance can compete with BCC Anniversary Phase 3 boots like Shadowmaster's Boots.

Elemental Shaman requires even more advance planning for Badges. Pantaloons of Arcane Annihilation requires 75 Badges. While not the absolute true BiS of TBC, Leggings of Channeled Elements remains stronger, but the latter is highly competitive, especially within a Loot Council guild, where Elemental Shaman may not be a priority acquisition.

Another advantage of Pantaloons of Arcane Annihilation is that it allows you to retain your Tier 6 four-piece set, avoiding the disruption of set bonuses by changing pants.

Fetish of the Primal Gods requires 35 Badges and can be considered an alternative to Antonidas's Aegis of Rapt Concentration. Skycall Totem requires 20 Badges of Justice, granting 10 seconds of 100 Haste upon Lightning Bolt triggering, which can help you farm TBC Anniversary Gold faster.

To ensure Elemental Shamans have more gear options during TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 4 progression, preparing over 100 Badges in advance is recommended.

Priest
