If you could only recommend one class for players new to Mistfall Hunter, the answer would definitely be Mercenary. This isn't because it has the highest damage or automatically wins all matches, but because it provides the most reliable foundation for new players.

Sword and Shield grant you the ability to block, parry, and controllable counterattacks, allowing you to gradually familiarize yourself with the enemy's attack rhythm. Hammer sacrifices some defensive capabilities for higher burst damage, stronger charge, and greater control.

Mistfall Hunter further optimized both weapon paths at launch. Perfect Parry's hitbox is wider, and Shield performs better in PvE; Hammer's Charge Leap is easier to hit targets, Skullcrusher's damage to monsters is increased, and Warhammer Sling's target recognition speed is also improved.

These changes don't alter Mercenary's gameplay, but they make the entire class smoother to play. More importantly, it helps you learn the core combat mechanics of Mistfall Hunter, including positioning, stamina management, blocking, Parry, rolling, and judging the timing of enemy attacks. This experience will benefit you regardless of which class you switch to later.

The only significant issue with Mercenary is that skilled ranged players can easily wear it down. However, overall, it still has a very high margin for error, and is my most recommended beginner class. 

Sorcerer

For players willing to learn to position and spell timing, this will be the strongest all-around starting class. The developers of Mistfall Hunter stated in testing that Sorcerer's overall kill and damage performance is relatively balanced. His biggest issues are a steep learning curve, weak specialization skills, and overly powerful frost control in extreme situations.

After Mistfall Hunter changes, Sorcerer is easier to learn without becoming invincible. Fireball, Thunder Strike, and Meteor Charm can be cast quickly even when Energy is depleted; Arcane's startup speed is improved; Wind Craft's range is increased and casting is faster; and several Element and Stardust skills have also received speed and stability optimizations.

Your emergency skills can be cast faster, you will no longer feel helpless and exhausted, and this class now has higher base survivability. Sorcerer provides ranged suppression, area damage, root control, and a lot of team value. It excels in PvE raids, threatening ranged players and punishing enemies cornered in confined spaces.

Its weakness remains positioning. If an aggressive melee player approaches you when your key abilities are unavailable, Sorcerer will quickly crumble. However, once you master Sorcerer's timing and positioning, it becomes the strongest all-around choice for Mistfall Hunter beginners.

Blackarrow

Blackarrow is the best ranged-focused choice for Mistfall Hunter solo play. The release notes indicated that Blackarrow was slightly overpowered in high-level solo play, leading to nerfs to some of its powerful abilities.

Mystic Fire Arrow's scaling against heavily geared targets has been reduced, Exhausted duration of Paralysis Arrow has been shortened, and the recharge rate after Shadow Step exits stealth has been decreased.

However, Blackarrow hasn't been completely nerfed. The archer path now prioritizes fully charged fire arrows. The hunter path no longer requires a fully charged shot to gain the range boost from Light Arrows. This makes the choice clearer.

In extraction mode, Blackarrow's greatest advantage isn't just its damage output, but its ability to chip away at enemies before they get close and decide whether to continue fighting or retreat safely based on the situation. This is crucial for preserving equipment and Mistfall Hunter Gyldenblod.

Of course, its biggest weakness is also quite obvious. Once melee classes successfully close the gap, Blackarrow's margin for error drops rapidly, so maintaining distance and making good use of the terrain in Mistfall Hunter are essential.

Withered Knight

Withered Knight undoubtedly received the most changes at launch. During the testing phase, its damage output wasn't weak; the real problem was Greatsword's slow feel and the lack of a secondary weapon system, resulting in insufficient overall gameplay depth.

The official Mistfall Hunter version effectively addressed these two issues. Greatsword unlocks Parry earlier, has a longer Counter Window, a more stable Thorn Guard, increased hitboxes for multiple attacks, and restores more health after knocking down enemies.

In addition, Mistfall Hunter added a complete polearm and shield weapon path. This weapon boasts six skills and offers extended attack range, active blocking, area control, and the ability to revive downed teammates from a distance.

The offensive talent allows players to charge into enemy lines after accumulating Shield Power, while the defensive approach emphasizes blocking, protecting teammates, and using enhanced attacks to repel enemies. More importantly, this weapon even received a buff on launch day.

Charge and Block consume less energy, basic thrust and Spear Barrage damage are increased, and Rainbow Piercer has reduced energy consumption and a faster return speed, making the entire weapon build smoother than when the server launched.

However, the learning curve for Polearm and Shield is still steeper than for Greatsword, requiring better distance judgment, attack rhythm, and battlefield awareness. Therefore, new Mistfall Hunter players are better suited to experience Greatsword first, becoming familiar with the class before trying Polearm and Shield.

Seer

Catalyst Seer and Mace Seer are almost two completely different classes. Catalyst is currently the purest support class in Mistfall Hunter. Its value lies not in damage output, but in healing, maintaining raid status, and helping teammates maintain their offensive rhythm.

In the launch version, Healing Rune and Punishment Rune have faster startup speeds, and the buffed Support Orb's hitbox has also been expanded, resulting in significantly improved healing efficiency and hit rate consistency. For a fixed three-person team, Catalyst is arguably the most definitive team support choice.

However, if most of the time is spent soloing, Catalyst is not the best class for progression. The other path, Mace, is more proactive. Because of its overly strong chasing and escaping abilities during the test server, the official version has nerfed its long-range mobility, slowing, and control effects, but retained its close-range chasing capabilities.

Meanwhile, Rune Drain's life steal effect on players has been strengthened. Therefore, Mace Seer hasn't lost its competitiveness, just no longer possessing the excessive safety of its Mistfall Hunter test server counterpart.

Shadowstrix

Last on the list is Shadowstrix. It's important to emphasize that being ranked last doesn't mean the class is weak; rather, it means it's the least suitable class for beginners new to Mistfall Hunter. Shadowstrix is ​​a standard stealth assassin.

It relies on stealth, burst damage, and catching enemies off guard to secure kills. The official release has nerfed many of the aspects that were most advantageous in Beta phase. Crow Storm can no longer repeatedly stack stuns on already stunned enemies, its damage has been slightly reduced, and its chasing ability has been weakened.

Several attack hitboxes have been optimized, making skill hits more consistent, but the overall difficulty of operation has significantly increased. Playing Shadowstrix well now requires more precise positioning, better timing of entry, and a safe retreat route after a kill.

For experienced PvP players, it may still be one of the most dangerous classes in Mistfall Hunter; however, for new players still learning the map, Extraction system, monster mechanics, and class counters, it is undoubtedly the choice with the lowest margin for error.

This isn't a simple Mistfall Hunter damage ranking, but a recommendation based on the launch environment, new player experience, team value, and overall performance in both PvE and PvP. As players' gear improves and balance patches are released, the rankings for each class are still subject to change.
