Focusing on Rage of Morditas mechanic, Last Epoch Season 5 introduces not only new gameplay elements but also new skills and unique items, allowing you to develop a wider variety of builds.
Among these additions is Devoured Knowledge, a new body armor for Acolyte class. It further enhances Mana Stacking Flay Lich Build, which was already a strong performer in previous seasons.
Below, we outline the specific advantages offered by Devoured Knowledge and explain how this build functions in Season 5.

What is the source of the damage output?
Mana Stacking Flay Lich Build excels by combining simple gameplay mechanics with devastating damage output. This success stems largely from the synergy between various skills and an automated damage-dealing process.
First, the build's primary source of damage is Chaos Bolts skill. You do not need to cast it manually; instead, it is triggered automatically by Flay, which handles target acquisition and attacks.
The key mechanic here is that for every 1 point of maximum mana you possess, Flay gains a 1% chance to cast a Chaos Bolt, a chance that can exceed 100% (stacking infinitely).
Of course, simple repeated triggers alone wouldn't result in a massive damage spike. The build's true power lies in its synergy with Deadly Plot node: for every 100 points of maximum mana, you gain a 20% damage bonus.
In other words, the more mana you stack, the higher your base damage per hit becomes, and the greater the number of Chaos Bolts fired per trigger. These factors multiply together to generate extraordinary damage output.
Beyond the synergies between skills, the internal setup of Chaos Bolts skill tree is crucial. Centered around Exult in Misery node, the build focuses on applying four status effects, Damned, Ignited, Bleeding, and Frost Bind, to secure additional damage bonuses.
How is the mana consumption issue addressed?
Mana Stacking Flay Lich Build requires frequent casting of multiple spells, making mana consumption a primary issue that must be resolved. In fact, the interactions between the required skill nodes in this build allow for the creation of a self-sustaining mana loop.
To begin with, while each Flay arrow costs 2 mana to fire, Chaos Bolts effectively negates this cost; Devour the Damned passive restores 2 mana whenever you hit a cursed enemy.
The tricky part arises with Deadly Plot, which increases the mana cost of Flay by 8. However, this is easily managed: by pairing your core skills with Executioner's Taunt, you can upgrade Harvest into Great Harvest.
Hitting a rare boss with this upgraded skill restores up to 30% of your mana. Consequently, as long as your total mana pool is at least 600, you can essentially achieve a balanced mana economy.
Furthermore, since the restoration amount is based on 30% of your maximum mana, increasing your mana cap results in a larger return per cast. This reduces the frequency at which you need to cast Harvest, thereby lowering your reliance on it.
What makes Devoured Knowledge so valuable?
While Mana Stacking Flay Lich Build was already reliable, Devoured Knowledge, introduced in Last Epoch Season 5, provides the percentage-based mana affix that the build previously lacked.
This body armor grants mana based on your Vitality stat (providing 1% mana per 2 points of Vitality), and stacking Vitality is easily achievable for this build.
More importantly, Devoured Knowledge not only generates ward per second based on your mana but also raises your endurance threshold based on mana, making the build significantly more durable.
In addition to Devoured Knowledge, equipping Last Epoch one-handed axe Executioner's Tithe allows you to generate Spirit Battery stacks upon killing enemies. Each stack increases your maximum mana by 2-4%.
In fact, 50% of any added melee damage on the weapon is converted into spell damage for Chaos Bolts. Therefore, the presence of any affix granting hybrid melee/spell damage effectively adds 50 points of spell damage.
How to boost this build's survivability?
While the points above highlight the damage output of Mana Stacking Flay Lich Build, there are other ways to further enhance its defenses beyond the effects provided by Devoured Knowledge.
In Last Epoch, leeching effects cease once your health reaches 100%. However, unlocking Corrupted Form node caps your maximum health at 50%, ensuring that leeching remains constantly active.
Pairing this with Soul Feast further amplifies your leeching capabilities; in combat, unless a single monster hit instantly kills you, your health bar will rapidly fluctuate between taking damage and recovering health.
Next, adding Reaper's Form skill not only grants stat bonuses like attack speed but also allows you to transform into Reaper. In this form, even if your 50% health bar is depleted, you simply revert to your normal state rather than dying outright.
If you want extra peace of mind, equip Brewmaster's Buckle belt; it allows your health to be protected by Endurance, offering up to 60% damage reduction from that mechanic.
Once your Mana Stacking Flay Lich Build is largely complete, we recommend farming the boss Aberroth until you obtain Seed of Ekkidrasil.

This helmet allows a portion of incoming damage to be applied to your mana instead of your health. When combined with Devouring Knowledge, nearly 50% of the total damage you take is effectively absorbed by your mana pool.
Crucially, damage taken by mana is reduced by 80%. Consequently, when combined with the 60% Endurance damage reduction, the total damage you actually sustain is effectively halved.
That covers everything in this guide. If you are interested in mana-focused builds in Last Epoch, Mana Stacking Flay Lich Build is likely the perfect choice for experiencing Season 5!
