A Fan-Favorite Vault Hunter Is Returning to Borderlands 4 With a New Story and Fresh Rewards

Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 4 launches July 30 with new bosses, loot, and endgame content. Story Pack 2 arrives September 10, bringing back FL4K and a new adventure on Kairos. More guns, more chaos, more Vault Hunter action.

Jul 28, 2026 Author: EZG

Borderlands 4 content updates are gradually being rolled out, and Gearbox recently announced two important expansions in a new official interview: Bounty Pack 4 Murders and Acquisitions and Story Pack 2 FL4K and the Last Resort.

The former will launch on July 30th, bringing players new story missions, boss challenges, and gear collection; the latter will arrive on September 10th, bringing back the beloved Beastmaster FL4K from Borderlands 3 to Kairos arena.

Based on the currently released information, these two DLCs serve different purposes.

Bounty Pack 4 is geared towards players who enjoy grinding for gear and challenging bosses, enhancing the late-game experience with a replayable story mission; Story Pack 2, on the other hand, focuses on character storylines, unfolding a new adventure around FL4K's return.

Bounty Pack 4: Murders and Acquisitions

The story of Murders and Acquisitions takes place in the polluted desert region of Toxic Scowl in Kairos.

This already dangerous area has become even more chaotic because of a conflict between two Ripper factions. Borderlands 4 players will assist Levaine, the leader of Electi, in handling a seemingly simple yet unpredictable factional conflict.

On the other side of this conflict is a special group of Rippers known as The Flock. They were once members of an organization notorious for violence and killing, but have now chosen to abandon their past way of life and establish a peaceful community in Toxic Scowl.

However, their new life did not last long. The nearby Order facility was seized by another, more radical Ripper group, The Blasphemers, and the conflict between the two sides quickly escalated.

Borderlands 4 players must help Levaine resolve the issues between the two factions while uncovering the resources and secrets behind Order facility. In this process, besides facing the distinctive Ripper characters, players will also encounter crazed bandits affected by the contaminated salt.

Bounty Pack 4 introduces some choice elements into its mission design. Players will encounter "A or B" choices as they progress through the story. These decisions won't change the overall plot, but they will affect some dialogue and combat.

While this design doesn't feature large branching storylines, it's enough to add some freshness to a bounty mission game that emphasizes replayability. When retaking the mission, players can try different choices and experience different combat variations.

Completing Bounty Pack 4 missions will reward players with a new Vault Hunter universal skin, a vehicle, and an ECHO-4 drone skin. Additionally, Toxic Scowl area will unlock a new boss and three mini-bosses for farming new gear.

This update also adds a Pearl-tier weapon, PRISM, a Jakobs sniper rifle. Furthermore, six Legendary items have been added to the loot pool.

The charm of Borderlands has always come from the surprise of "finding a game-changing weapon." After this update, many players who enjoy exploring builds are expected to return to the game because of the new equipment, reinvesting hours in exploration and research.

As equipment combinations continue to be adjusted, accumulating resources such as Borderlands 4 Money will become even more crucial during character development.

Vault Card 4

Besides story missions, Bounty Pack 4 includes Vault Card 4 content. This system primarily revolves around long-term play rewards. After activating a Vault Card, players can gain experience points to level up and gradually unlock various equipment and cosmetic rewards.

Vault Card progression is tied to normal gameplay activities. Simply exploring the world, clearing enemies, and completing quests will contribute to your progress, without requiring any additional challenges or objectives.

Vault Card 4 offers a variety of new rewards, including four legendary items with reconfigurable stats.

Furthermore, Vault Card 4 adds numerous cosmetic rewards, including unique headgear for each Vault Hunter in the base game, four universal character skins, five weapon skins, five vehicle skins, four ECHO-4 drone skins, and two drone attachments.

For players who enjoy collecting cosmetic items, this content provides an additional long-term goal.

Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort

If Bounty Pack 4 represents a supplement to the combat content of Borderlands 4, then Story Pack 2 FL4K and the Last Resort feels more like a character return.

FL4K was one of the most popular Vault Hunters in Borderlands 3, leaving a lasting impression with his mechanical body, animal companion, and unique hunter charisma.

In the new story, FL4K continues his hunt in Kairos and begins searching for his missing Skag companion, Mr. Chew. While following clues, FL4K arrives at a volcanic resort on a tropical jungle island, which happens to be part of Tediore Corporation's secret infiltration plan. The seemingly peaceful resort hides new dangers.

The official Borderlands 4 story details are currently limited, but it's confirmed that FL4K will return as a key character in this story. Players will see how FL4K has changed over the years, including his appearance and his state after more combat experience.

For veteran players, the storyline of finding Mr. Chew is emotionally resonant, as FL4K's relationship with his animal companions has always been the most distinctive aspect of the character.

Meanwhile, Story Pack 2 will also introduce a new Vault Hunter character, Loveless the Hacker. She will appear as part of Vault Hunter Pack, bringing a fresh gameplay experience.

Currently, the official information regarding her skills and combat style is limited, but as a brand-new character, she will undoubtedly be a major highlight of future updates.

With the new battles against Toxic Scowl and FL4K's renewed journey to find his companions, the world of Borderlands 4 will continue to expand.

For players anticipating new gear, new challenges, and the return of classic characters, the next few months may be the most exciting time for Kairos.
